Talk show hosts Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres have featured Charice on their programs, but as of yet, she has no major breakout hit or record release, although she has been recording tracks for her debut. The songs include “I Will Always Love You” and her first international single “Note to God.”

Charice recently was invited to perform in a singing-only version of an America’s Got Talent-type contest and took Italy by storm! She was promptly hailed as an international superstar and was even invited to sing a duet of “The Prayer” with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.

But the real excitement came when she was teamed up with another teen sensation, 13-year-old Cristian Imparato. Now I’m too old in the tooth to really understand all of this, but I was moved, so much so that you have to watch these two remarkable and extraordinary kids appearing on Io Canto (I Sing). The program was broadcast on Italy’s national RAI TV network.

At their young ages, they both showed that they’ve got what it takes for stardom and that their names will become recognized worldwide in the years to come. A friend of mine from Tuscany who knew that I’d met Charice many times here in Las Vegas emailed me, “She simply took Italy by storm. The audiences were chanting for her, and she’s captured the hearts of the entire nation.”

The moment arrived when Chasters’ dream came true in Las Vegas!! Chasters had the time of their lives in Las Vegas as they awaited with anticipation and excitement of meeting Charice in person to celebrate her 17th birthday gathering!

On one hot and humid weekend, thousands from all over the world converged on a small but infamous glitzy strip of hotels and casinos on arid, desert land known as Las Vegas. There, they looked forward to hearing their favorite singer, a young lady who has captivated the world with her enormous singing voice. They also hoped to have the chance of meeting her in person, as well as other fans who share their admiration and passion for the young singer.

For months, their wait turned into anticipation. Anticipation turned into yearning. As the concert date drew near, their excitement mounted and grew to a crescendo as they started to prepare for their trips to Las Vegas. Soon they pack their bags and descend, en masse, to the city known for its bright lights and glorified hedonism to join fellow fans in hearing and possibly meeting Charice.

On one weekend in Las Vegas, their dreams came true.

A picture is worth a thousand words, and since no amount of writing can ever capture the excitement, euphoria and emotions of that one weekend in Las Vegas, let the following images describe the moments Chasters felt for those who weren’t able to come. Chasters’ big gathering day to celebrate Charice’s 17th birthday!

After witnessing a spectacular concert that included many great artists and surprise visits from singing legends, all culminating in Charice’s fabulous, jaw-dropping performance, Chasters might as well have asked: could anything else top such an impressive event?

How about meeting with fellow Charice fans and meeting The Girl With The Voice herself?

The following day, for Chasters all roads led to Giorgio’s Ristorante in Mandalay Bay. Besides being an appointed place for lunch, it was also a venue for a chance to finally meet acquaintances made online, to make new friends who share their same love for Charice, a place to put a face to the names behind the computer screens. It was also where, for many, a rendezvous with destiny was about to take place: the chance to finally see Charice up close and personal.

Perhaps for others, the following photographs are mere chronicles of one Sunday in May at an Italian restaurant. For the numerous fans of Charice who were there, these pictures are far more than that: they represent treasured keepsakes of those precious moments where we celebrated the occasion of a special person’s birthday and enjoyed each other’s company.

For those of us who were there, may we cherish the camaraderie, laughter and joy we shared with Charice and with one another.

Charice Take the Stage for David Foster & Friends

When you hear Charice Pempengco sing, you’d swear you were listening to Whitney Houston or Celine Dion. And that’s just fine with the Filipina teenager, who has gone from regular girl to YouTube sensation to international star.

After all, Charice’s favorite song to perform is Houston’s version of “I Will Always Love You,” and she’s shared the stage with Dion at Madison Square Garden for a duet of “Because You Loved Me.”

On Saturday, May 9, one day before her 17th birthday, Charice will join Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire, Brian McKnight, Peter Cincotti and a surprise guest on the stage of the Mandalay Bay Events Center to honor producer and songwriter David Foster. The concert, called Hit Man: David Foster & Friends, showcases some of the talent that the 15-time Grammy winner has brought to the forefront of popular music.

Known for being the man behind such artists as Houston and Dion—as well as Toni Braxton, Michael Bublé and Josh Groban—it’s no wonder Foster has taken Charice under his wing. What’s more interesting is how the two crossed paths. The talented singer, born Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco (her stage name is a portmanteau of her first two names) began singing at the tender age of 4.

“My mom taught me how to sing,” she says. “I started doing singing contests when I was 7.”

One of those talent shows was Little Big Star, a TV competition in the Philippines similar to American Idol. One of Charice’s fans, whose online name is FalseVoice, posted her performance of “I Will Always Love You,” on YouTube, catapulting her into Internet stardom. The video caught the attention of Swedish music producers, for whom she recorded seven songs. Charice went on to appear on Korean talent contest Star King, which also made it YouTube, leading to spots on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show.

“I’m always watching Oprah…but Ellen DeGeneres was my first American TV appearance, so I was really happy, of course, [to be invited], she says. “And when I was on Oprah, it was like, double happiness.”

The invitation to appear on Oprah came from Foster.

“I think one of the reasons I was on Oprah was because the sister of David Foster saw my video on YouTube,” Charice explains, “and she sent it to David and then David sent it to Oprah.” Charice’s talk show appearances led to performances with Andrea Bocelli and Dion and ultimately, her first album, which she is currently working on with Foster.

“Actually, it’s kind of a different album for me because I’m always singing Whitney Houston songs,” she says. “This is kind of R&B. It’s not all updated songs, but most are upbeat—something like Rihanna.”

Charice has also tried her hand at songwriting.

“I wrote a song and David heard it,” she says. “I love composing inspirational songs. I wrote a song called ‘Amazing,’ and I think it’s pretty good.”

And while most might say she doesn’t need it, Charice has recently started taking voice lessons.

“I just got my first vocal coach,” she says. “I think it will help me to sing more comfortably because I’m always singing higher notes.”

No matter how many powerhouse high notes fl ow from her petite frame, though, Charice admits she gets nervous singing with superstars such as Dion and Bocelli.

“Of course, omigod, especially at Madison Square Garden with Celine Dion,” she says. “I thought, ‘I’m going to faint.’ She’s my ultimate idol. When I was backstage, I was really nervous, but when I went on stage, she’s very generous. She’s very motherly, and I enjoyed performing with her.”

The singer would also like to collaborate with her other musical heroes.

“I want to sing with Justin Timberlake,” she says. “I want to sing a different kind of song, maybe sing and dance with him. I like all his songs, but I really like the song ‘My Love’…It’s a crazy song.”

In the meantime, Charice is adding to her resume. playing a role with another iconic musical group.

“I just finished shooting Alvin and the Chipmunks part two,” she says. “It was so amazing. It was my fi rst movie. I didn’t do acting—I just sang because I’m the rival singer of the Chipmunks. It’s not really a big part, but I’m a big fan of Alvin and the Chipmunks.”

Charice’s fans and supporters have been asking the young diva to sing “Lupang Hinirang” in the Pacquiao-Hatton fight at MGM Grand Hotel, an event that is expected to be watched by millions of people worldwide.

For his fights, Pacquiao traditionally handpicks an individual who will sing the national anthem.

Before Charice can sing for the event, however, there are some issues to be hurdled.

“Kahit gustuhin [naman] natin magkaiba kami ng network, si Sir Manny at ako. Pero kung talagang ire-request nila [bakit hindi]? Pero ako gusto ko talagang [kumanta sa laban niya],” she said.

Charice also wished the Filipino boxing icon good luck, adding that she is rooting for him.

“Magaling po si Sir Manny so kayang-kaya ‘yan. Basta good luck na lang,” the YouTube sensation said.

Charice, who took a short break in Manila, is scheduled to do a show in Dubai before she goes back to Los Angeles to finish her first international album.

She will celebrate her 17th birthday this coming May 10 in the US.

Charice met Foster last year in Los Angeles before she taped her guest appearance on “The Ellen Degeneres Show”. They later flew together to Las Vegas on a private jet to watch the farewell show of Celine Dion at the Caesar’s Palace Colosseum.

According to Charice, it was Foster who recommended her to Oprah’s show and it was Oprah who in turn recommended her to Foster to handle her international recording career.

Big Names With Big Bucks Turnout for Andre Agassi’s Foundation He’s a champion on the court and off. Andre Agassi’s charitable foundation is one of the most successful in Las Vegas.

For the past 13 years he’s raised 70 million dollars to improve the education system in his hometown.  Agassi, speaking with Channel Eight Eyewitness News, said, “I built a charter school–a college prep academy in most economically challenged part of Las Vegas– on Martin Luther King and J-street, it’s a K-thru-12 school.” In the tough economic times, Agassi admits he’s lucky to be backed by many a-list celebrities in making his dream an ongoing reality.

“These are 70% of kids who come from one parent homes kids who have no hope in their lives.”  Said Emeril Legasse, a longtime supporter and board member for the Andre Agassi’s preparatory academy.  “If anyone is going to figure out how to make better for the children of Las Vegas it’s going to be Andre Agassi.”

Singer Sheryl Crow is also a supporter: “Right now with the war, economy suffering, cancer money has been cut to an all time low, events like this the way Andre does it pulls from the worldwide community really admirable.”

The star studded night is complete with performances by Mariah Carey and 16 year old Charice Pempengco who shot to fame on YouTube leading her to America from The Philippines. “This performance tonight is for them I’m happy to be part of this because I can relate to them”. (Charice)

An emotional night indeed, this year’s annual fundraiser means a little more to Agassi the class of 09 will be the first to graduate in June.  Agassi says, “it’s a miracle you go there and walk down the halls you can’t even believe what it is your feeling and seeing.

Last year the event pulled in 9.1 million dollars. No word on how many private donations came in Saturday night. But just to give you an idea each table cost anywhere from 10 grand to 85 thousand dollars. And all the tables were sold out.

It’s a never-ending story of dreams coming true! The country’s pride, Charice, again marked another personal milestone – she met one of her music idols, Mariah Carey. Almost a month after her performance with Celine Dion, Charice was again in cloud nine after she got the chance to talk and to hug Carey who has been described as one of the best-selling female pop artists of the millennium.

Charice met Carey at Wynn’s Hotel for the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation’s Grand Slam for Children benefit concert last Saturday, October 11 in Las Vegas.

A YouTube video uploaded by Charice’s friend, FalseVoice, shows Carey tightly hugging the young diva Charice.

In a previous interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Charice shared that aside from Andrea Bocelli,  Josh Groban and Celine Dion, meeting Carey was also one of her  dreams.

“Siyempre po, gusto ko ding makilala si Mariah Carey,” Charice said.

Last September 15, Charice proved that dreams do come true after she performed a duet with Dion at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Before Charice’ duet with Dion, she had her second appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s show last September 9, Tuesday.

Charice recently returned to the country after several successful international guestings. Her last appearance abroad was in Winnipeg, Canada where she was guest star of Kapamilya’s popular noontime show, “Wowowee.”

Just last week Charice was in the country and performed with ASAP champions, Rachelle Ann Go, Sarah Geronimo,  Sheryn Reghis, Yeng Constantino, Christian Bautista, Erik Santos, Vina Morales and Zsa Zsa Padilla.

During the show, the young singer received a gold record award for her debut album, “Charice”.

The gold record plaque was given to Charice by Star Records executives last Sunday, October 5 at “ASAP (All-Star Afternoon Party) ‘08.” An album that sells 12,500 copies gets a gold status.

In an interview, Charice, who became world famous after her music videos were posted on YouTube, thanked her mother network and the people who keep supporting her locally and abroad.
