This performance clearly meant a lot to the singer, who even tweeted about her feelings prior to singing for the NFL opener. She said: “Big Day. I need prayers.” Those prayers must have helped because Charice’s voice was flawless as she took on the ‘Star Spangled Banner’, with service members standing by as two jets flew overhead (by roger). NFL Charice to Sing at NFL Games 9/11 Tribute in Florida

Charice is not a stranger to these two songs. She has already performed the United States’ national anthem in a Dodgers’ opening game to much critical acclaim; and for “God Bless America”, she performed this during the Martin Luther King Awards in Washington D.C., one of the pre-inaugural events for President Obama in January, 2009. Superbowl Fever, the National Anthem, and Glee

Singing the National Anthem has got to be nerve-wracking, but singing it before 100 million viewers in the country’s most highly rated, most viewed television program of the year and perhaps the world, one must have nerves of steel to do so. It’s quite embarassing that Christina Aguilera botched it up in the Superbowl event that is now under way in television screens across America, but she’s certainly not the first who has done so in a high-profile event.

Fans can be quite vocal in their displeasure if you do a lousy job of the national anthem. A recent article at yahoo.com runs down a list of “The 10 Best and Worst National Anthems Ever, from Roseanne to Whitney.” The author obviously had not heard the version of this unassuming young gal from the Philippines because I think he would most certainly have put Charice at the top of the ‘Best’ list along with Whitney Houston’s now classic rendition.

We can always count on Charice to sing her absolute best in a live performance and to prepare with the utmost diligence. Here is my personal favorite of the National Anthem that I have ever heard. Charice was a mere 16 years old when she was invited to sing our country’s national anthem on Opening Day of the LA Dodgers baseball season in 2009. And she did it flawlessly to the surprise of 57,000 avid baseball fans whose collective jaws dropped in gleeful delight and cheers for the young performer.

It gave me goosebumps to hear such a splendid, perfect rendition of our national anthem without the accompanying histrionics that many singers are prone to do. Likewise, Charice also performed a spine-tingling, perfect rendition of God Bless America during one of President Barack Obama’s inaugural events that brought the delighted audience to its feet by song’s end.

In other news, there was a tweet yesterday about Charice performing the National Anthem at a pre-game “NFL Experience” event in Dallas Saturday evening. The rumors have since been confirmed untrue by her manager as Charice is busily rehearsing with her band in LA for her upcoming concert dates in Japan.

Rumors of Charice’s reappearance in the special Glee Superbowl episode to be broadcast immediately after the game are also now generally believed to be untrue due to comments made by creator Ryan Murphy in a recent interview. But we’ll know for sure in just a couple more hours!

This week we get a double dose of Glee as it returns from winter break with TWO episodes, tonight’s special Superbowl episode and Tuesday’s new Valentine episode. The question on everyone’s minds is when oh when is Charice coming back to Glee? It may not be tonight nor Tuesday, but at least we know from the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy, that Charice will return in a big way by the end of Glee’s second season. Well instead of wrangling our brains with the unnecessary preoccupation of guessing, let’s just be patient and take Charice’s advice to ‘just wait for it.’
