LOS ANGELES — Charice Pempengco, the 15-year-old singing sensation who recently wowed audiences at the Ellen DeGeneres’ TV show, is reportedly in talks with no less than the legendary music producer Clive Davis. Philippine News learned that Pempengco arrived in New York recently and is waxing a recording deal with Davis, the record producer who is behind the careers of Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake just to name a few.

“I am so proud to be behind the launching of the musical career of Charice,” TV host Ellen DeGeneres told us after we bumped into her during a Golden Globes screening of “Juno” and afterparty with Fox co-chair Tom Rothman and his wife, Jessica.

Forget Star Records (a recording company based in the Philippines), this girl is headed for international stardom. Charice just announced in an interview yesterday with ABS-CBN that she is heading back to New York, USA sometime in January 2008 to meet with a record producer and composer. The identity of the record producer is still top secret but there are speculations going around that it is Clive Davis who is coincidently is also based in New York.

Clive Jay Davis is an American record producer and a leading music industry executive. From 1967-72 he was the President of Columbia Records, was the founder and president of Artista Records in the late 1970s through 2000 until founding J. Records, Currently Davis is the Chairman and CEO of the RCA Music Group, Chairman and CEO of J Records, and Chairman and CEO of BMG North America. Davis is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a non-performer.
