Last May 14 Charice arrived in Manila showing yet another tattoo, which reads, “I never knew true love until someone broke my heart.” Awww!! Tissue please. Oops wait; before you guys starts to cry…sorry but Charice won’t be sharing her story.

In relation to her new ink; according to her whatever she does (putting tattoo on her arm) It always has a meaning. She does not do something just for the sake of doing it.

“Pag naglalagay ago talagang may meaning. Kasi ayoko na naglalagay nang basta-basta na lang. Bakit ganyan kasi ganon. Actually it’s a true story but I’d rather not tell the story. I know a lot of people kapag nabasa nila ‘yan makaka-relate,””

You’ve got to love me for what I am for simply being me…as the song goes by the Carpenters and the same can be said for Charice. With her new and edgier look, the most talented girl in the world couldn’t be happier.”I’m extremely happy. Unbelievable! Like I could cry! Showing my tattoos, showing my hair, showing my outfit, I feel more free,” as she told the press.

In addition she also stated, “What you see right now is the real me. What you see before wasn’t me. A lot of people around me like in the US, like in here, they didn’t know what I really want. They were deciding for me. Like they were deciding, ‘Let’s do this, let’s gonna do that, do the curly hair.’ I didn’t get the chance to decide for myself. Now that I’m being so independent, while it’s early, I really, really want to tell all the people that I don’t care if you hate. I don’t care if you don’t like it,”

A lot of people also has been questioning about her sexual orientation and Charice has this to say, “I don’t care whatever you think. As long as my fans love me and support me forever, I’m good with that. Whoever stays with my until the end of my career or whatever, those are the people [who trust me]. The others that still have doubts, questions, who are confused… I will understand.”

As for Charice’s haters, what are her parting words for them? “To all my haters? Hello!”

Anyway, by now most people must have heard or read in the news lately about the controversy involving three DJs of the radio station Magic 89.9 and Charice. Guess who the DJs are? Read on!

It all started the morning of May 9th in a Philippine local radio show called “Good Times” wherein DJ Mo along with his co-hosts Tin Gamboa and Mia Bayuga decided to create a hashtag on Twitter that said #charicepempengcosextape as some sort of a “joke”. It became the number 1 trending topic in the Phillippines.

In Charice’s official Twitter account she replied to Mo twister as being “unbelievable” and thought of him as being nice because he interviewed her before…guess he was not.

Of course this will not go unnoticed as the radio station released an official statement saying:
“The management of Today’s Best Music Magic 89.9 does not condone what happened this morning, May 9, 2012 on Good Times. As a joke, the 3 DJs started an objectionable hashtag about Charice Pempengco on Twitter. And apology to Ms. Pempengco shall be made tomorrow morning, May 10, 2012 on the said radio show. Furthermore, as self-regulation, the DJs involved shall be suspended from boardwork for two weeks without pay as consequence of their actions.”

DJ Mo also expressed his apology:
I want to take the opportunity to apologize to Charice for a stupid & cruel joke on our show today. We attempted to be funny at her expense and, in the process, hurt her feelings. It’s with deep regret that we have come to learn that. in behalf of @suzy899 (Tin Gamboa) and @mia899 (Mia Bayuga), we apologize to Charice for our stupid behavior and immature attempt to generate laughs.

You have worked so very hard, not just for yourself and your family, but to put our country in a positive light, to promote immense Filipino talent, and you have done that successfully. We are proud of you and we are embarrassed because we failed to support that. Hope I could make it up to you and rest assured we will exhaust every avenue to do so. We are sorry. You’ve been nothing but supportive to our show in the past. We failed to show our appreciation today @OfficialCharice

“We would like to apologize for those that were offended at the poor attempt of a joke during our program. The spirit in which it was intended was EXTREME exaggeration and not of fact. Little did we consider the feelings of the parties involved. We promise our best effort to not let it happen again and bring a different kind of entertainment via the program from now on. Sincerest apologies to @OfficialCharice, her family and her many loyal fans. IT was a sheer lapse of judgement in which I deeply regret.”

From DJ Tin:
I would like to apologize to charice who has shown me NOTHING but kindness, & to u the listeners who have always been so loving & supportive, i am taking responsibility for everything that was said, but please know that there was ZERO malicious intent. ZERO. i am sincerely sorry. it was horrible judgement on our part, and i would like to thank both those who have condemned it & those to have remained supportive. i am sorry, and i will do everything humanly possible to not do anything like it again. in behalf of the team – @djmotwister, @Mia899 & myself – sorry magic listeners, Charice, & her fans. you all deserved better from us.

So in the end the question is, “who’s laughing now?”

Oprah’s The Most Talented Girl In The World will be turning 20 this May 10th. And she’s definitely not a young girl anymore but a grown up woman.

Chasters around the world are thinking of greeting Charice but how? Through video greetings? Maybe a choreographed dance like what Tintol and team did last year? But how to include Chasters abroad?

After a long business trip, I met up with my wife and second son in Shibuya early in the evening.  Time-wise, we were cutting it close so we hurried to Shibuya Koukaidou. (We stopped by McDonald’s and my wife was a little messy with the hamburger that she practically inhaled.) It has been a while since I’ve seen my wife move that fast. Paying no heed to our surroundings, we rushed to Shibuya Koukaidou and arrived 10 minutes before the concert’s start time. We bought our tickets during pre-selling at the Tokyo Kokusai Forum so we had special seats, third row from the front.

When we got there, the place was packed, all the way up to the second floor. Looking back from the third row and taking in the view of all the seats, my wife said with much feeling, “Charice has come to the point where she could fill an entire place all by herself.”

Even when she was still “Charice Pempengco”, even when she wasn’t known yet in Japan, I was already searching for her videos on Youtube and have been blogging about her from years back. Remembering this, I looked around the packed concert hall and I almost cried.

Looking around, it was impressive that her fans’ age range is incredibly wide, from elderly men and women to young women in their twenties. Including myself, I felt that I was in the company of people who have had their souls captured by Charice’s voice and performances.

Even before Charice came onstage, the crowd was already electrified when the lights came down and when the band started carving out a rhythm. The ones to the right of the stage were especially energetic! We on the left side weren’t about to be defeated by the ones on the right so we stood up immediately.

With the spotlight on her, Charice came onstage. With pinlights bouncing off her short golden hair, she was so cool! There was a storm of cheers and applause from the audience.

The first part of the concert was mainly songs from her Infinity album and some uptempo songs. With the “One Day” dance unit onstage as well, it was a continuous flow of lush entertainment. At the end of each song, my wife kept saying “Charice has gotten better” and while I think she has been great ever since, she has indeed, gotten better, mirroring my wife’s happy feelings.

No matter how hard she danced, no matter how long she kept hitting those high notes, Charice never ran out of breath. Even her breath intake was incorporated into her singing, creating a world of vocals filled with carefully calculated technique. It’s a world that she can especially create because of her hard work coupled with her natural talent.

The second part was emotional singing, showcasing what Charice is known for. Even in singing emotional songs, I thought that this time Charice, unlike before, was not trying to bowl over or impress everyone with powerful, vocally demanding songs. She doesn’t need arrangements that would jolt the audience out of their seats anymore. In particular, even though she could, she wouldn’t hit those long high notes and despite this, the audience was completely satisfied with her performance. It was that kind of scene.

One of the best parts was the song “Tears in Heaven” which she dedicated to her father who died last year. I’ve always thought that up to now, Charice has learned about life’s joys and sorrows, love’s sadness and bitterness though songs. Of course, even though she’s learned how to “sing” a song (and even though she’s “learned” only through songs) she still had an almost miraculous way of persuading, in conveying the emotions behind the song. But now, I think Charice has the ability to put layers upon layers of emotion in her singing precisely because of her present life’s journey. I feel that the time has come when she can add to the depth of a song. You may call it the polish of an adult, or the richness of a professional.

The third part was about dance music. She was in sync with her band, and a snappy, fun performance ensued. Up to now she has been singing imbued with depth from the innermost parts of her being, and now she gives out dazzling, spectacular performances which I feel is an upgrade of Charice’s abilities.

Her dialogue with the audience between songs was good, her spiels sprinkled with some Japanese words was also good and somewhere along the line, from being a girl just singing with all her might, she has grown into a first-class entertainer who delights her audience. Of course, even while showing the best part of being a professional, the honesty and earnestness she has had from the very beginning has not faded.

From one song to the next, it was a concert where the excitement, keenness and buoyancy never stopped.

No matter how much I write it will never be enough but lastly, I must say this.

The last song was “Louder”. Even in her previous performance at the Tokyo Kokusai Forum, my soul was shaken by this song. I was thinking that this song would come somewhere in the latter part of the show but it was the final “money shot” song! When the intro to “Louder” came in, the audience was at full throttle. Swayed by Charice’s “Come on!”, all those in the front row rushed up to the stage. Of course, I went straight to the stage too even though I was in the third row. This kind of thing wouldn’t happen with a Japanese artist. It was really a great thing to do.

With her cool short golden hair flipping about, Charice was singing her heart out. As with my experience before, she has captured my soul, even more so than ever.

With the vigorous rhythm of “Louder” and with people jumping around, I somehow found myself in the middle of the very front row! It was just like what happened at Zepp Tokyo (in her first solo concert last year).  The monitor/speakers were beside me, and even the setlist on paper was right in front of my very nose! Moreover, there was no bar separating the audience and the stage like at Zepp. My elbows were on the stage! Perfectly and completely in the front and middle! I wonder if this is even possible!

It was a concert where Charice showed she really values her fans. She went from left to right, back and forth and repeatedly shook the hands of her fans. She firmly shook my hand too! (Ahhh, this post has become completely about me…)

She sang “I Will Always Love You” for her encore.

I first came across Charice when she was a 15 year old girl singing the same song at a British program called “The Paul O’Grady Show”. Since then I’ve been knocked down by her talent, and I wonder how many times I’ve watched that video in my computer.

It’s been four years since then. The girl inside that video was right now, in front of my very eyes, singing the same song. And not just that, it was a performance on a much higher level than four years ago.

I am happy I’ve supported Charice all these years. I would like to continue watching her talent grow.

I’ve thought this many times before, and I still strongly believe this now. Charice, who has, up to now, been the “girl with the miraculous voice”, is about to climb up to a new level of being a “top world-class entertainer”. It was a concert where I strongly felt “Charice” and was completely satisfied.

It really was a good birthday. (I kept yelling “Welcome to Japan” and “We love you”. My only regret was that I didn’t yell “Today is my birthday”.)

Charice has matured so much as an artist. Her present style and image is more than fitting for this concert tour and we really have to respect her for that. To those who have criticized her new look, watching her live may be the only way to erase all doubts. She was so confident and relaxed, something that can be attributed to her being comfortable in her own skin, as she admitted in interviews that she has been wanting this look for the longest time.  The Japanese stylists even made her “Final Fantasy” inspired new look way better for her and yes, including the new tattoo! She looks fierce and sweet, tomboyish and feminine, edgy and soft, sexy and cute all at the same time. What else could you ask for?

Charice also sang a new song entitled “Everything”.  The story behind this song is that music.jp and rekochoku.jp,  two of the major music download sites for cellphones, called for song requests for Charice to cover.  The majority requested Japanese songstress Misia’s “Everything”.  So Charice ended up co-producing her own version of the song with new lyrics, different from that of Misia’s.

Charice’s “Everything” is now available via cellphone download only at rekochoku.jp and music.jp until June 30th.  It will also be available for both PC and cellphone download on another major music download site, mora.jp from March 21st.  There is still no word on its availability on Japan iTunes, nor has it been announced if it will be released worldwide.

At the end of the show, Charice filmed the audience using her iPhone including herself with her back to the audience.

Another highlight was Troy! He sang “If I Ain’t Got You”, which was not sung in other countries in the Infinity tour thus far. He sounded really great, we should wait for this guy to have a concert on his own. We need a name for his fans too: Troyans from Troymania! (Ok I’m a fan really.)

A sad incident occurred after the concert though, when people were leaving Charice’s concert, the earthquake alarm went on and we heard it was a big one. We pray for the safety of Japan and all its people. Thank you Japanese Chasters, thank you Japanese audience!

Charice to be an ‘honest’ judge on ‘X Factor’

MANILA, Philippines – International singing sensation Charice vowed to be honest to the contestants of ABS-CBN’s upcoming talent search, “The X Factor Philippines.”

Charice will be the only female judge in the Philippine version of the reality TV show, which originated in the U.K.

“I wanna be honest. I know some people will think that will be mean, but I wanna be honest. I wanna choose who’s talented. I wanna choose the real talent,” the singer told ABS-CBN News.

Charice thrilled to judge ABS-CBN’s ‘X Factor’

MANILA, Philippines – International singing sensation Charice finally admitted that she is the only female judge in ABS-CBN’s version of hit singing show “The X Factor.”

In an interview during a press conference for her concert at the Araneta Coliseum this Friday night, Charice extended her appreciation to ABS-CBN for choosing her to be part of the new show.

Gary V, Martin to judge ABS-CBN’s ‘The X Factor’

MANILA, Philippines, April 11 – Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano confirmed that he is one of the judges in ABS-CBN’s version of the hit talent competition “The X Factor.”

In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Valenciano shared his excitement to be part of the hit talent competition.

Valenciano also revealed that his good friend, Concert King Martin Nievera, will also be a judge in the show.

The two will join international singing sensation and Glee alum Charice at the judges’ table.

Valenciano said ABS-CBN really found the right judges for the show.

“They chose the right judges. You even have Charice. Some people say: ‘What? Charice?’ But Charice is international. Isnt’ that what every artist want to be – international?”

Yes. That is a famous Philippine song and it’s very appropriate for Charice as she came back to her home country to bring joy to our hearts and ears as well! So people thought they’d go to a concert but end up coming home from a wild party!

As soon as Charice set foot at Ninoy Aquino International airport, there were only two new hot topics: her new short, dyed hair and her fresh tattoo! Reading the comments on Twitter, it was so unbelievable how they attacked her “literally”! It maybe true that Charice can’t please everyone but do they have to be so mean?

She’s finding her style, experimenting on her own way, let her be. She’s still in the learning and developing phase of her life. Being true to herself is what makes a person happy and human. And we know that Charice indeed is very talented and whether some of her fans and detractors will like her style or not, her confidence alone is very amazing.

Non-Chasters who attended the concert were converted, (they just couldn’t deny her talent), something they’ve not seen yet on local artists. Chasters were even more surprised and amazed. This is not a DFF concert, it’s her solo concert: her own style, her own renditions, her interactions with the audience, everything was well-planned on stage.

There was an added bonus of course in the form of Charice’s Little Big Star pals namely Makisig, Ralph, Kyle, Gian and Sam Concepcion in which they sang “Moves Like Jagger”.

The most anticipated duet with Iyaz whom they renamed as “Ayas” now?

They witnessed a world-class talent! Sorry for those who missed this chance, better luck next time. It is indeed a different feeling experiencing her perform live, she’s one of a kind that will give you both goosebumps with that unique voice!

There’s no denying it, it was a phenomenal show from a phenomenal artist named Charice!

So what else has made this tour special? Her rockin’ band! Each one of them is so talented (not to mention good looking!) that the girls were screaming and cheering for them as well.

Dubai Tour – March 2

We’ve chosen some of the best song performances from the successful Dubai concert starting with Whitney’s “Saving All My Love For You” which was really a good choice.

One of the most heartwarming songs was “Tears in Heaven” dedicated to her Father and Charice said she knows he is watching her right now.

The Tagalog song “Ikaw” was one of the highlights of the night which shows how Charice loves her home country.
