Charice mentioned in some of her old interviews that she joined about 100 singing contests before Oprah and Ellen Degeneres invited her to guest in their shows. She was mentored by famous songwriter David Foster and performed with singers such as Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. She also appeared in the musical hit TV series Glee and some TV shows in other countries. She released two international albums “Charice” and “Infinity” wherein the first album landed 8th on the Billboard 200 Chart. With these impressive achievements under her name, she is more than qualified to be a judge in X-Factor. We can expect Charice to share her honest opinions and experiences that she has had in her long singing career.

Last May 14 Charice arrived in Manila showing yet another tattoo, which reads, “I never knew true love until someone broke my heart.” Awww!! Tissue please. Oops wait; before you guys starts to cry…sorry but Charice won’t be sharing her story.

In relation to her new ink; according to her whatever she does (putting tattoo on her arm) It always has a meaning. She does not do something just for the sake of doing it.

“Pag naglalagay ago talagang may meaning. Kasi ayoko na naglalagay nang basta-basta na lang. Bakit ganyan kasi ganon. Actually it’s a true story but I’d rather not tell the story. I know a lot of people kapag nabasa nila ‘yan makaka-relate,””

You’ve got to love me for what I am for simply being me…as the song goes by the Carpenters and the same can be said for Charice. With her new and edgier look, the most talented girl in the world couldn’t be happier.”I’m extremely happy. Unbelievable! Like I could cry! Showing my tattoos, showing my hair, showing my outfit, I feel more free,” as she told the press.

In addition she also stated, “What you see right now is the real me. What you see before wasn’t me. A lot of people around me like in the US, like in here, they didn’t know what I really want. They were deciding for me. Like they were deciding, ‘Let’s do this, let’s gonna do that, do the curly hair.’ I didn’t get the chance to decide for myself. Now that I’m being so independent, while it’s early, I really, really want to tell all the people that I don’t care if you hate. I don’t care if you don’t like it,”

A lot of people also has been questioning about her sexual orientation and Charice has this to say, “I don’t care whatever you think. As long as my fans love me and support me forever, I’m good with that. Whoever stays with my until the end of my career or whatever, those are the people [who trust me]. The others that still have doubts, questions, who are confused… I will understand.”

As for Charice’s haters, what are her parting words for them? “To all my haters? Hello!”

Anyway, by now most people must have heard or read in the news lately about the controversy involving three DJs of the radio station Magic 89.9 and Charice. Guess who the DJs are? Read on!

It all started the morning of May 9th in a Philippine local radio show called “Good Times” wherein DJ Mo along with his co-hosts Tin Gamboa and Mia Bayuga decided to create a hashtag on Twitter that said #charicepempengcosextape as some sort of a “joke”. It became the number 1 trending topic in the Phillippines.

In Charice’s official Twitter account she replied to Mo twister as being “unbelievable” and thought of him as being nice because he interviewed her before…guess he was not.

Of course this will not go unnoticed as the radio station released an official statement saying:
“The management of Today’s Best Music Magic 89.9 does not condone what happened this morning, May 9, 2012 on Good Times. As a joke, the 3 DJs started an objectionable hashtag about Charice Pempengco on Twitter. And apology to Ms. Pempengco shall be made tomorrow morning, May 10, 2012 on the said radio show. Furthermore, as self-regulation, the DJs involved shall be suspended from boardwork for two weeks without pay as consequence of their actions.”

DJ Mo also expressed his apology:
I want to take the opportunity to apologize to Charice for a stupid & cruel joke on our show today. We attempted to be funny at her expense and, in the process, hurt her feelings. It’s with deep regret that we have come to learn that. in behalf of @suzy899 (Tin Gamboa) and @mia899 (Mia Bayuga), we apologize to Charice for our stupid behavior and immature attempt to generate laughs.

You have worked so very hard, not just for yourself and your family, but to put our country in a positive light, to promote immense Filipino talent, and you have done that successfully. We are proud of you and we are embarrassed because we failed to support that. Hope I could make it up to you and rest assured we will exhaust every avenue to do so. We are sorry. You’ve been nothing but supportive to our show in the past. We failed to show our appreciation today @OfficialCharice

The same also goes with the two DJ’s.

“We would like to apologize for those that were offended at the poor attempt of a joke during our program. The spirit in which it was intended was EXTREME exaggeration and not of fact. Little did we consider the feelings of the parties involved. We promise our best effort to not let it happen again and bring a different kind of entertainment via the program from now on. Sincerest apologies to @OfficialCharice, her family and her many loyal fans. IT was a sheer lapse of judgement in which I deeply regret.”

From DJ Tin:
I would like to apologize to charice who has shown me NOTHING but kindness, & to u the listeners who have always been so loving & supportive, i am taking responsibility for everything that was said, but please know that there was ZERO malicious intent. ZERO. i am sincerely sorry. it was horrible judgement on our part, and i would like to thank both those who have condemned it & those to have remained supportive. i am sorry, and i will do everything humanly possible to not do anything like it again. in behalf of the team – @djmotwister, @Mia899 & myself – sorry magic listeners, Charice, & her fans. you all deserved better from us.

Charice to be an ‘honest’ judge on ‘X Factor’

MANILA, Philippines – International singing sensation Charice vowed to be honest to the contestants of ABS-CBN’s upcoming talent search, “The X Factor Philippines.”

Charice will be the only female judge in the Philippine version of the reality TV show, which originated in the U.K.

“I wanna be honest. I know some people will think that will be mean, but I wanna be honest. I wanna choose who’s talented. I wanna choose the real talent,” the singer told ABS-CBN News.

Charice thrilled to judge ABS-CBN’s ‘X Factor’

MANILA, Philippines – International singing sensation Charice finally admitted that she is the only female judge in ABS-CBN’s version of hit singing show “The X Factor.”

In an interview during a press conference for her concert at the Araneta Coliseum this Friday night, Charice extended her appreciation to ABS-CBN for choosing her to be part of the new show.

Gary V, Martin to judge ABS-CBN’s ‘The X Factor’

MANILA, Philippines, April 11 – Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano confirmed that he is one of the judges in ABS-CBN’s version of the hit talent competition “The X Factor.”

In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Valenciano shared his excitement to be part of the hit talent competition.

Valenciano also revealed that his good friend, Concert King Martin Nievera, will also be a judge in the show.

The two will join international singing sensation and Glee alum Charice at the judges’ table.

Valenciano said ABS-CBN really found the right judges for the show.

“They chose the right judges. You even have Charice. Some people say: ‘What? Charice?’ But Charice is international. Isnt’ that what every artist want to be – international?”

Yes. That is a famous Philippine song and it’s very appropriate for Charice as she came back to her home country to bring joy to our hearts and ears as well! So people thought they’d go to a concert but end up coming home from a wild party!

As soon as Charice set foot at Ninoy Aquino International airport, there were only two new hot topics: her new short, dyed hair and her fresh tattoo! Reading the comments on Twitter, it was so unbelievable how they attacked her “literally”! It maybe true that Charice can’t please everyone but do they have to be so mean?

Charice should have been nervous before going on stage at the Araneta Coliseum because of the pressure the press and the numerous Twitter (yes she was trending again) comments addressing her new look! She’s finding her style, experimenting on her own way, let her be. She’s still in the learning and developing phase of her life. Being true to herself is what makes a person happy and human. And we know that Charice indeed is very talented and whether some of her fans and detractors will like her style or not, her confidence alone is very amazing.

There was an added bonus of course in the form of Charice’s Little Big Star pals namely Makisig, Ralph, Kyle, Gian and Sam Concepcion in which they sang “Moves Like Jagger”.

This is her story:

ONE MONTH before the concert, I posted something in my  Facebook, Twitter, and Plurk account. ‘Dear Lord, I hope someone soponsors my ticket for the DFF Tour with Charice on Oct. 25, 2011, I do hope this wish comes true”. I was just kidding, then suddenly, “Sisa”, a gorgeous chaster in and out whom I consider as my elder sis said she will take care of it. Woah, I never expected that she would sponsor me. She was really nice to me and I was so thankful about it. Two days after, the money to be used to buy the ticket was sent to our house. A week and a half later, I lost the ticket due to my carelessness. I remember putting it under the bed but when I tried looking for it, I really can’t find it. My guess is that our maid might have thrown out the ticket when she cleaned my room. Then one day before the concert, Ate Tintol sent me a private message on Facebook. I was at school that time, that was around 7pm. She told me to send her a text message if I don’t have a ticket yet. She still has extra ticket and she said she will give me one. OMC, i was so happy to know that because I really thought I won’t be able to watch the concert anymore.

THE MAIN EVENT.

I arrived late at the Chaster Concert gathering where I was supposed to sing due to so much traffic. I first look for Ate Tintol to ask for my ticket. She asked me to choose between Upperbox A or B. She said that more chasters will be seated in Upperbox B than A, but UpperboxA is nearer the stage. So, I chose the ticket for Upperbox A.

The concert started at around 8pm. I felt sad because I was alone in my seat, away from the group of chasters I’ve met earlier. I just kept on screaming and singing along with the performers as if nothing matters.

A DREAM COME TRUE.

A lot of people has been asking me if what had happened at the concert was scripted. I told them that everything was unexpected! When the concert started, I was screaming non-stop since the other chasters are far from me and I dont have anyone to talk to. I was so excited because I really want to see charice.

At the mid-part of the show, there was one point when David Foster ask the audience who wanted to sing in the stage. He first picked out audiences at the VIP section. Later on, he then asked if anyone staying a little bit farther the stage also wants to sing. I started screaming my lungs out and raising my hand then, the people around began pointing at me. I was shocked when the spotlight was suddenly focused to us. David F. said i need to be at the stage in 20 seconds, Geeeez, that’s close to impossible since the section where I was seated was kinda far from the stage. The marshalls assisted me to the backstage. I thought I was gonna sing immediately. I got a little worried when I found out that I’m not going to sing yet. I thought they already forgot about me. While waiting at the backstage, the staff and the other performers are almost at my reach. I shook hands with them and kept on smiling to all.

Then the moment I have long been waiting for came, I heard Charice singing on the stage. She was singing POWER OF LOVE, OMC. I couldn’t stop myself from crying that time. I felt a little shy because the people around were already looking at me. The moment charice came down the stage, she hugged me and signed the souvenir i brought from the Pre-Concert Chasters Gathering.

The concert continued and when it was nearing it’s end, the staff told me that they will try their best to still be able to put me on the show and let me sing. Charice approached me and asked me if I’m just ok. She was trying to comfort me coz she might have felt that I was feeling a little down. She said sorry because David might have forgotten me coz he was really tired that time. I told her it’s ok, there’s no need to say sorry coz seeing her is really more than enough to complete my night. But deep inside, I did feel a little sad coz I really thought that Sir David Foster already forgot me. Then, one of the musicians approached me and asked me what song do I know and if I have ever hold a mic. They never thought I was really singing. I told them I know the song “I will Survive”, they said they weren’t ready for that. They asked if I know “My heart will go on”, I told them I don’t know the complete piece. How about Because you loved me? I said YES! I waited a little more, then when I heard that the performers were already singing Earth Song, I knew that the concert was about to end, I thought again that I might not be able to perform anymore.  Then I suddenly remembered that I left my bag at my seat in Upperbox A. Good thing the staffs are really kind enough to take care of it. They were able to get it back from my seat.

I heard Araneta Colisum roaring when David Foster played his major hits and the audience were singing along.  Then after that, David called me up the stage. OMC to the highest level, I was getting so nervous. Then I saw Charice looking at me as if she was saying good luck. I was still so nervous but I know I need to overcome this feeling so I started singing. I shouted CHASTERS in the middle of the song coz i feel that I represent every Chaster there. Suddenly, the most unexpected happened, Charice came up the stage. That is something I really never expected coz the last time I saw her, she was just at the backstage looking at me and giving me the courage to go on just by looking at me. I had the most unforgettable duet of my life. I just noticed myself crying while singing with her, THANK GOD we were still able to finish the song. Charice was exceptionally nice as well as David. They continued cheering me even when I’m going down the stage.

I received a BIG hug from Charice. After that, Ate Tintol sent me a text message, she said, “I guess losing your ticket was a blessing in disguise. You were awesome at the stage. The Chasters are proud of you! “. ~end~

Note: For everyone’s information, the sponsored ticket (which was donated by a Chaster Clause the last minute to another chaster) was an Upperbox B ticket. However, a friend of mine who was supposed to be on the Upperbox A seat had an emergency and was not able to go to the concert the last minute so I gave Kimmie a choice. Upperbox A or B? Several Philippine news sources have reported the death which occurred Monday evening in Charice’s home town of San Pedro, Laguna, south of Manila. There have also been reports in American news as well – cbsnews.com and newsday.com – and other media around the world as the AP news release spreads under various headlines reading ” ‘Glee’ singer Charice’s dad killed in Philippines.”

Charice tweeted that she would be unable to appear with David Foster & Friends in the Singapore leg of the concert tour, November 3rd, due to her swift return home.

“I am very sorry to all my fans from Singapore. I am not going to be there to be part of David Foster and Friends concert. I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family. I hope you all understand. I love you all and I will see you next year.”

Charice also released the following statement on her official blog via her official website:

“I want to thank my fans from around the world for their support and love at this very difficult time for my family and I. We are all very sad about this terrible tragedy.”

Chasters everywhere offer their full support, love, prayers, and comfort to Charice & family during this time of bereavement. We would like to encourage Chasters to practice sensitivity and forgiveness and dignity as Charice has shown.

Announced on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day, Charice was named as the winner in the Entertainment category, one of 10 catergories in what is the first year of the Womanity Awards.

The winners in each of the categories were selected after more than a month of online voting from readers. The criteria for the award seems to have been a simple one: which Filpino women’s stories of triumph, talent and determination inspired their readers the most.

Charice took the award ahead of three contenders, actresses Angel Aquino, Iza Calzado and comedienne Eugene Domingo, but as the only one of the four to have a truly international career, she was always heavily fancied to take the gong.

“Charice is a household name – and not just locally, thanks to Oprah Winfrey’s patronage and her own powerful set of pipes,” femalenetwork.com state in their bio, before highlighting her down-to-earth attitude despite her fame as a source of inspiration.

The other categories included in the awards ranged from arts and advocacy (charity work) to business and science.

Lea Salonga, who has long been a living entertainment icon in her home country because of her successful Broadway and West End career, claimed the award for arts. She has also long been a vocal supporter of Charice.

Charice has already won one significant music award this year, when she was named J-WAVE Best New Artist in February, also after some online polling.

She took one night out of her highly successful Tour of Japan to attend the awards ceremony in Tokyo, at which she also performed.

Last year, in November, Charice received the prestigious BPInoy Award in recognition of her continuing success abroad, and her status as a figure of national pride.

According to the astrologer “Paloma,” the stars suggest that the Laguna-born songstress can expect to enjoy more than 45 years at the top in show business, but did warn that it wouldn’t be all clear seas and blue skies for her.

“According to her stars, she’s on a really good 45-year run,” Paloma stated. “She’s going to be popular even into her 50s. That doesn’t mean she is not going to have problems. She has to deal with the painful polishing process along the way.”

“Paloma” was part of a panel of 6 media personalities taking part in a sponsored Coffee Talk event titled “Crossroads: Who’s Going Where?” at the plush Makati Shangri-La Hotel in Manila at the end of January, just before the Chinese New Year on February 3.

A variety of Filipino leaders in politics, sports and entertainment were under the spotlight, with not everyone being blessed with good news. However, none of the panelists believed that Charice would fail to become one of the biggest names in music around the globe.

And how can we argue with that? She may have been helped in no small way by her association with Oprah and David Foster, but the teenage diva is now one of the leading names in US entertainment – with Charice herself claiming that her childhood dreams have come true.

Charice was born in the Year of the Monkey

It has been three years since Charice made her first American TV appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and since then her ‘star’ has rocketed upwards. In a few weeks she will begin her first solo tour in Japan, having won over the media and music lovers there, while her long-awaited, much-hyped and much-demanded return to the international phenomenon that is “Glee” expected sometime this month also.

“Paloma,” by the way, made her predictions based on Chinese Astrology. The Chinese New Year passed on February 3, making 2011 the Year of the Metal Rabbit, while Charice was born in the Year of the Monkey (1992).

And, with Charice set to turn 19 this coming May 10, 45 more years cruising at the top of the music (and no doubt acting) world means a career that will slow down when she is … 64 years old! Tickets for her farewell tour are not available… quite yet!

Charice flew back to the Philippines from the US for just two days to appear on stage in the “1@11″ event at the SM Mall of Asia on Saturday, January 8. The event, which saw her perform alongside Philippine music legend Gary Valenciano, was the official launch of new perfumes from the Oficianado Germany Perfumes range, including three “Charice” fragrances.

However, while the Filipina singing icon is normally approachable when at home, on this occasion she was heavily protected by security before, during and after the concert, and turned down requests for interviews from the press.

Her failure to make herself available has caused a press row in the Philippines, with some commentators accusing Charice of changing. One columnist with the Manila Bulletin newspaper has even suggested that success has caused Charice to “fashion herself like a Hollywood celebrity even among her countrymen.”

Metro Manila Philippine broadcaster DZMM Teleradyo reports that Mommy Raquel has now moved to quell the row by explaining that her daughter was unable to grant interview requests for health reasons and called for understanding from the media.

In the report, DZMM stated that, according to Mommy Raquel, Charice was really tired that night and so she didn’t grant any interviews and asked not to make it a big issue. Mommy Raquel apologized to the local press and asked for the matter to be closed.

According to the report, Charice’s mother also strongly denied that success has changed her daughter, insisting that Charice “never forgets to look where she came from.”

Media reports as to the reason for heightened security at the event have ranged wildly from general concerns over security levels to the suggestion that Oprah Winfrey recommended new security measures. Mommy Raquel also clarified that neither Oprah nor a change in security protocol had anything to do with the matter.

Charice herself, has stressed that one of her aims for 2011 is to look after her health better and it now seems that she was simply sticking to her own promise.

With a schedule that can involve several transpacific and transatlantic flights, as well as grueling appearance and concert commitments each month, it seems like a wise course of action.

Meanwhile, DZMM Teleradyo host Jobert Sucaidito has called on the press to apply some common sense to the whole situation.

“Even if Charice wants to hug all of you and give interviews… she was assigned guards who were given orders,” he said during his program “Showbiz Mismo” on January 17. “They were only there for her protection, and this was also for her career. This is (her management’s) career plan, part of her packaging.

“Charice is from us, anyway,” he added. “It’s only now that there are guards watching her every movebefore dismissing the whole situation. It’s nothing, really. Goodness!”
