Who Are We to Judge Charice?

Who Are We to Judge Charice?

We would like to share the comments from some of the most loyal supporters of Charice for the past years. These Chasters we admire most because of their commitment in promoting Charice. After all the turbulences and negative comments in social networking sites these past days, including the comment section here in Charicemania, we hope to open a platform for ideas and free discussions in a civilized manner. We encourage Chasters to participate…so “fire away”.

Note: Inapproriate, rude comments will be edited and/or removed.

From Sideburnersol:
Thanks for sharing your views. I appreciate that you requested the replies to be free of name calling, character assassination and personal attacks. Please forgive me if my attempts to provide alternative views to your own may come across as overly pedantic. Despite my best efforts I have not mastered the art of writing succinctly. Also, please consider that although I have had varying degrees of personal contact with most all of the individuals I defend, I am still very much like what I believe you to be, on the outside looking in, so, I am not claiming to have absolute truth.

Concerning the first issue you brought up, “trashing family issues in the social media”, I believe we are, for the most part, in agreement. As a parent of a grown daughter, I particularly liked your comment that a parent’s role is to “encourage and nurture, but not control”. However, I disagree with your statement that “Charice needs to learn to listen to her mom”. I think that Charice knows very well how to listen to her mom. IMHO, Charice, having heard her mom, wisely chooses not to respond publicly and I trust that she is looking for the appropriate time/environment to respond privately. My prayer is that someone with strength of character, and expertise in relationship building, will intervene privately to provide counseling for all family members. It is my personal experience that when everyone agrees that they could use some help to make things right, individuals can more easily understand their roles in the conflict, accept responsibility for their actions and work toward a healthy family relationship.

Regarding your observations about the individual that Charice has chosen to be her Music Director, and whom she has repeatedly referred to as, “her brother”, Troy; I hope you will be open to reconsidering your conclusions. Although Troy sometimes uses “colorful” language, from what I have observed, it is mostly either used in jest, or, to extemporaneously add emphasis to a modern urban slogan, or, he is using it to mischievously describe an event/object. I follow Troy’s tweets regularly and my view is that he is not a hateful tweeter/person. He does not make a habit of using profanity to attack individuals. I view his language as neither “vulgar” nor “despicable”. You previously mentioned agreeing with the views of PJ. You may know that PJ previously received a phone call from Charice and his vlogs were followed by many Chasters. I’m not sure which video you are referring to, but I hope it’s not the one about Troy & Cheesa, where PJ’s suggestions were based on information he later admitted was wrong. I only bring this up because I didn’t hear you criticizing PJ for his prolific use of profanity in the majority of his videos. Where does the critiquing of those Charice may become close to end? Nobody is perfect. When will the looking for the positives in those she loves and respects become our focus? Can Chasters refrain from condemning those that Charice chooses to be in her inner circle when they exhibit some trait that we may not fully endorse? Can we choose to give them the benefit of a doubt if their actions can be viewed as questionable so that perhaps we can appreciate the heart of the person and the theme within their messages? I hope so.

Please consider some mitigating circumstances to the actions/attitudes you attribute to the individual that Charice chooses to spend lots of her free time with when she is in Los Angeles; Troy. If you are a devoted follower of Troy’s twitter, then you know that Troy’s twitter timeline is constantly bombarded with requests from Chasters for pictures of Charice and updates on her every move. As you admit, Troy is very gifted musically. He has many fans, most of which are probably also Chasters; so, it seems fine to me that Troy posts pictures of himself along with Charice. It also seems fine to me that he gives updates on his own work as well as his work with Charice. I’m not exactly sure what you meant by “BS baggard”? I’m guessing you meant something like braggadocios? Troy has a healthy ego and I know he does comment about being proud of his work. However, I don’t think that he overly puffs himself up, or that he is arrogant. On the contrary, I think Troy is rather modest concerning his critically important role in directing talented musicians, arranging music and mapping the flow of songs for Charice’s and other artist’s performances. As you may know, Charice dropped her public twitter accounts because of repeated unkind comments about her. If Chasters choose to treat Troy as they have Charice, I imagine that Chasters will also lose the privilege of viewing Troy’s pictures with Charice.

Have you considered how stress relieving it must be for Charice to have someone working for her that has a wonderfully supportive family? Have you counted the plethora of Troy’s tweets of adoration addressed to his mom and dad, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family? Have you considered the state of someone’s heart that consistently tweets messages/pictures that unquestionably shows how much their family means to them? Will you consider how openly both Troy & Cheesa commend their parents for their examples of unconditional love and family unity? If you have followed Troy & Cheesa, both on fb & Twitter, then you might see more evidence of what wonderful people they are and what a blessed family life they share. Charice has said that she feels like she is a part of their family. I hope you and other Chasters will see how that type of experience is a blessing for Charice.

I just checked the twitter account of the source for the obscured picture of Charice’s letter and as far as I know, Charice still hasn’t published the content of the letter. Whatever she may write, I hope that Chasters will look for the positives and do as you previously stated, “I hope that some sense and something good will come out from your minds and hearts out of this post”.

Best regards to my Chaster family.

From LantaoIslands:
Lantao seldom be here. Point is I’m a freaking busy guy with tons and tons of work around the clock. Yet, I’m not dumb and I’m not stupid. I do read and I do listen and I did my researches as well. Well, if I don’t say a word, I just pretend I dunno and avoid throwing stones onto the water surface to cause damaging ripples.

When Celebrity needs to write a public letter, there must be something of ultimate importance to announce. Put it this way: no news from a public figure like our international singing sensation Charice is bad news. On the contrary, ANY News for a celebrity is good news because it helps to draw attention. Good news, bad news, drama, controversies, rumors, tweet fights, FB leaks, tomboy Fotos, tattoo, long-and-short of hair, ayiee, or even news on fans … etc, etc, etc. All of these are news for a celebrity to keep their presence among us, a kind of keeping us in the loop for “Something Big to Happen” later.

Added to this picture might be the media later, gossiping on ABC & XYZ. Well, lantao always prepare for the worst news – news that might be beyond the scope we can accept. But so what! All I enjoy is our dear princess’s music and I care less for her personal life even though I also pray for her and wish her the best on everything.

A singer is also a human and any human will go through the same stages we all have been gone through before: family issues, preference in love and personal behavior, so on and so forth. Please understand that nobody is perfect on the planet earth and we SHOULD NOT demand a teenager to be perfect by all means?! Come on, please be fair to our dear little princess!

Right or wrong is subjective. To allow someone to grow stronger, you need to allow that person walk through the eye of a hurricane. From long to short, from girlish to tomboy, from obedient to rebellious as some might say, or from pure to being tattooed, and the mysterious ayie business … let’s cool our heads down and allow some room for this young lady to walk her path. Yeah, it might seemingly be wrong, but that’s how we learn and grow stronger. Or it is nothing more than a marketing strategy for her next move.

All news are good news for a celebrity as their handler can tweak all good news and bad news to their direction and to their benefit to re- brand their star. Let’s all stay tune and be united. No matter what happen, we all remain stay put! Hey, when did we forgot the slogan of “Together at da Top, Baby”!

From Mooffin:
Regarding something big. What if Cha is contractually bound not to say anything about it until a certain time? Whether whatever it is is already done or not, what if she has no control over when to say something or what to say about it? Can you imagine how frustrating that must be? You’re bursting to say something about your career but you can’t? And people saying nothing’s happening and you can’t defend yourself? What if all these changes in image point to a new direction music-wise? She’s said before she wants to be like Avril. What if all these image changes are part of packaging her new direction? If she said something big is going to happen, then something big really will. We just have to wait and see.
I can understand the frustration of chasters, but we have to keep in mind we were so spoiled before when one thing after another was happening to her, when her schedule was so punishing. No human can sustain that kind of activity. In every artist’s career there are ebbs and flows.

Some people say her career is over. I will only believe it when Cha herself says that she is retiring. It may not be the career of Beyonce or Madonna but it’s still a career. As long as she is singing, whatever genre it is, or whatever image she has, it’s still a career.

We all have our preferences and wishes for Cha, myself included, but i’ve realized it’s her life to live and i am just a fan. If i don’t like the direction she is going into, i can stop being a fan, but i will not disparage Cha nor others who choose to remain fans and I will always be grateful to Cha for years of happiness watching her, and the friends I’ve made because of her.

People think they know what is best for Cha. I am guilty of this too, in the past, I just didn’t say it. But when people realize that they really don’t know what is best for another person, especially without knowing the facts, without witnessing the behind the scenes, then there will be peace. There comes a point when you just have to let it go, it’s her life to live. We get to live our lives, why can’s she live hers?

Here’s the previous comment posted by Bing:
Allow me to re-post a previous view and say something about the mom & brother’s trashing family issues in the social media:

Wether you are a celebrity, a common person or nobody, you never go to social media to castigate your children/siblings,to extend your desire to control your child by humiliating in public with the unintended intention to isolate and keep her totally under your wraps. In the western world, this is domestic violence.

No parent has right to subject their children to any forms of abuse but they have they responsibility to teach what is right from wrong and provide guidance when needed & required and/or desired to encourage and nurture but not control. No children desired to be brought out in this world but certainly can be grateful being born.

Almost everyone is saying in various ways that Charice needs to learn or listen to her mom which I agree but, None of us has mentioned that the mum also has to learn and listen to her. Listening or learning does not mean following the same DNA of the footprints of the parent/s. Both of them were born in different generations and all the differences associated with it in the environment they grow or outgrow with.

From my previous post, please comment, I wish to see where my nonsense fall and weather somethings do matter:

I haven’t seen Cha’s letter to Chasters suggesting that she was taking a break but I hope that when she does return to perform that she will have the professional management that are to standrard of her calibre and her global audience.

Lately I have just been biting my tongue regarding the inappropriate behaviour and inappropriate language of her musical director – Troy. His language in Twitter has realy been vulgar & despicable – about up to 2/3 months ago posts.

Also, I didn’t like the idea Troy bragging about his influence over Charice… It could be well true but he didn’t have to say it. Some of it were in defence for his sister Cheesa & also Charice. Even in a number of pictures he posted with Charice – the latest one was her personal gig I think Malaysia, he is taking centre stage.

I can understand that for Chasters of which he is one but, he is an employee first. Have you ever heard of people working for any artist in the background role taking centre stage with the artist & all this BS bagging of themselves other than in the Phils.

My personal impression & friend is that he trying to grab the publicity in close association with Charice with the indirect/implied intention of promoting his sister’s career and himself.

What matters to many is Charice and she should not overstep in the limelight to self promote his interest…and at times acts as press officer for Cha. It’s like an info tease with vagueness.

Maybe this sort of behaviours sit well with Phil audience but not the global followers of Charice.

I am in the belief that Cha’s management would be best handled by people of international taste and appetite with reputation and standard sellable to her global market. At the moment, Troy comes across as her “management”???????

Don’t get me wrong, Troy is very good with the musical instruments/electronics I guess and that’s about it as far as cha’s career is concerned – this is the reflection of my Australian group following Charice.. And Troy’s actions/behaviour should reflect the standard of Cha of which he is working for – not this vulgar language and despicable outburst.

Yes he is a person too but, he is an employee first working for Charice. While he is with her, he should just tone down his language and stop the grab for the limelight, becomes annoying.

Some of you may not like of what I have to say here now but, I speak the thoughts of the many I know in our Sydney group. I must say that our interest here is simply the unbelievable talent of Charice and almost all of us in the group did not follow any particular artists until we came to know Charice.

May I also say to those haters of Charice, make sense with what you disagree with her, no name calling and not character assassination or personal attack. Focus on the talents because that is where she is for us after all and that’s how she came to us. Make your personal suggestions/views out but don’t get this notion that she will exactly do what you and I want..

She will always fall short in pleasing anyone’s expectations but she can surely transform some of those expectations in her own way and that we should credit her for doing so as well as be gratified ourselves that she somehow made those efforts to reach out to us.. If still you are not happy then abandone her and find someone else who you fell most happiest to support. Don’t make it hardest for you to be happy….go, where joys lead you!

I hope that some sense and something good will come out from your minds and hearts out of this this post. Thank you all and good afternoon from Sydney.

@OfficialCharice

@OfficialCharice

This post is for all of those who are quick to judge @OfficialCharice

Everybody in the entertainment industry knows that being in the spotlight at a young age can take away precious moments of one’s childhood. Child stars are pretty much forced to grow up faster because of all the extra work, pressure, ethics and environment. Then there is also the part of them having to maintain an image that is marketable in the eyes of their label / management. Imagine having to juggle between school, practice, and work while also trying to squeeze in time for family and friends. Yes, they trade those moments for fortune and fame, but deep down inside I truly believe that there are always times when a kid just wants to be a kid. Other big name stars have experienced the same dilemma, and many of them eventually break down or decide to leave the entertainment industry to pursue a more personal and private kind of lifestyle.

Charice has been making appearances since she was just a few years old until now. She has basically worked more hours and years then most people her age. Her style and voice has changed consistently over the years, which is a natural part of the aging process. Everybody goes through this in life. Trying to find a style that fits them, only to find out that they dislike it and try something new again and again. Maybe Charice really likes this new style and maybe she’s thinking of growing her hair back out. Whatever the case, I think she owes it to herself to make her own decisions for a change. (As long as those decisions don’t put her in any immediate danger or cause permanent injury).

Only Charice herself knows exactly what she wants in life and in which direction she wants her career to go. Our only prerogative is to decide whether or not we want to go along for the ride and support her. Everybody seems to have a different image of Charice that they prefer. Family, fans, her label, and maybe even Hollywood in general. Who knows? But I can only imagine the feeling of having everybody around you trying to dictate your life, especially fans that she has so much appreciation for. After a while it must be hard not to get annoyed or lose trust in those people. There is no possible way one person can please everybody, and there is not, JUST ONE, right look for her. There is not, JUST ONE, right look for anybody. All of the biggest stars in Hollywood change their style on a regular basis. This is also what helps them draw the attention of the viewers like us.

As for her carreer. Charice did have a busy schedule for 2012. Here is a list of guestings that I can remember. (Please forgive me if I forgot a few Cha)

- Did a photoshoot for Preview Magazine
- Had the airing of the “One For The Heart” Valentine Concert (Februrary 12, 2012)
- Infinity Tour Concerts: Dubai, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Hawaii. (March 2, 2012 – March 21, 2012)
- Won the Favorite Asian Act from Nickelodeon (April 1, 2012)
- Performed at the KababayanFest 2012 in California (June 30, 2012)
- Flew back and forth every week during the X Factor Philippines. (June 23, 2012 – Oct. 14, 2012)
- Sang live with Gary V on ASAP (Oct. 14, 2012)
- The US launch of Here Comes The Boom, which she received high praises on. (Oct. 9, 2012)
- Interview on “The Couch” broadcasted live on TV (October 10, 2012)
- Interviewed on MySpace (Oct. 11, 2012)
- Performed at TOFA Awards in NYC (Oct. 27, 2012)
- Infinity Tour Hawaii (Nov. 3, 2012)
- Appeared on The Buzz, KrisTV, and ASAP Chillout (December 2, 2012)
- And was also mentioned in various magazines and blogs throughout the year…

To me this seems like one heck of a schedule. There are many other huge celebrities out there that make only a handful of appearances every year, and the only reason why you hear about them so much is because TV shows like TMZ, Extra and ET like to have reporters follow them and shove cameras in their faces so they have something to talk about every day.

To even balance a international schedule like Charice did is absolutely amazing for a 20 year old. Give her some credit. Give her a break. Just appreciate what she has brought to the table and contributed to us. When any of you are going through hard times in life, how do you feel when your elders constantly pressure you with lectures and advices? In the end, you would really prefer being with a few close friends who will comfort and support you in making your decision regardless of what it is. If you made the right choice, you will celebrate together. If you made the wrong choice, they wil console you and find ways to make you feel better, and ready to tackle on the next obstacle in life. Nobody likes being told what to do. We are humans, not puppets.

I know some people will agree with me and some will disagree. That’s fine. It’s just how life is. There are BILLIONS of people in this world, and if we didn’t have different opinions on things life would be boring as hell. Just remember that just because you read something, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you interpreted it correctly. It is extremely easy to misunderstand messages trying to be portrayed on social media, so please take a second to make sure you understand 100% what the writer is trying to say before you bash them. I say all of this with the utmost respect for everybody. Spread love…not hate. Looking forward to a great year for Charice. Peace out~! #LeggoCharice2013

Charice vs DJ Mo Twister: It’s a Joke But We’re Not Laughing

“Are you ready to rumble?” Absolutely! Especially Chasters with their matching pitchforks and torches all armed and ready to defend Charice. Well that is a bit of an exaggeration but still “To arms!”

Anyway, by now most people must have heard or read in the news lately about the controversy involving three DJs of the radio station Magic 89.9 and Charice. Guess who the DJs are? Read on! Continue Reading

Happy 20th Birthday Charice

Happy 20th Birthday Charice

Thank you for your comments.  Just a friendly reminder, please limit your greetings to a sentence. Add your username, location, and year when you became a fan.  Let’s give Charice a chance to read all of the greetings.  Thank you.

Oprah’s The Most Talented Girl In The World will be turning 20 this May 10th. And she’s definitely not a young girl anymore but a grown up woman.

Chasters around the world are thinking of greeting Charice but how? Through video greetings? Maybe a choreographed dance like what Tintol and team did last year? But how to include Chasters abroad?

One suggestion from Bluemax is to research the Chaster countries of the world and create a global Chaster map. What we can offer here in Charicemania is to use the site as a platform to send your birthday greetings and at the same time, collect Chasters’ whereabouts all around the world.

So just leave your comment below and for the mechanics, it’s easier to add just one greeting line, your username or name and location and since when you are following Charice’s career. Isn’t that interesting?

Maybe we could make another booklet like this:

Infinity Japan Tour Videos 2012

Infinity Japan Tour Videos 2012

So we thought the solo concert in Japan last year was great already but those who witnessed this Infinity concert in Tokyo this time are swearing, this is way better than her past concerts! Even Charice’s musical director and keyboardist Troy Laureta tweeted “Love Japan! Perhaps one of the best shows we’ve done on the Infinity Tour! Thank you, Tokyo! We love you!” It was indeed an amazing, exhilarating show, with schoolgirls in uniform, teenage boys and girls, couples in their 20s, office workers in their 30s, people in their 40s, 50s and 60s rocking it! To those who have doubted Charice losing her voice, sorry to disappoint you but her voice was as strong and even better than ever. She has topped herself, if that is even possible.

Tyo 199x3002 Infinity Japan Tour Videos 2012Charice has matured so much as an artist. Her present style and image is more than fitting for this concert tour and we really have to respect her for that. To those who have criticized her new look, watching her live may be the only way to erase all doubts. She was so confident and relaxed, something that can be attributed to her being comfortable in her own skin, as she admitted in interviews that she has been wanting this look for the longest time.  The Japanese stylists even made her “Final Fantasy” inspired new look way better for her and yes, including the new tattoo! She looks fierce and sweet, tomboyish and feminine, edgy and soft, sexy and cute all at the same time. What else could you ask for?

Charice also sang a new song entitled “Everything”.  The story behind this song is that music.jp and rekochoku.jp,  two of the major music download sites for cellphones, called for song requests for Charice to cover.  The majority requested Japanese songstress Misia’s “Everything”.  So Charice ended up co-producing her own version of the song with new lyrics, different from that of Misia’s.

Charice’s “Everything” is now available via cellphone download only at rekochoku.jp and music.jp until June 30th.  It will also be available for both PC and cellphone download on another major music download site, mora.jp from March 21st.  There is still no word on its availability on Japan iTunes, nor has it been announced if it will be released worldwide.

So here’s a preview of the song as performed in Tokyo with special thanks to our ninja “Abilidades”:

At the end of the show, Charice filmed the audience using her iPhone including herself with her back to the audience.

Another highlight was Troy! He sang “If I Ain’t Got You”, which was not sung in other countries in the Infinity tour thus far. He sounded really great, we should wait for this guy to have a concert on his own. We need a name for his fans too: Troyans from Troymania! (Ok I’m a fan really.)

A sad incident occurred after the concert though, when people were leaving Charice’s concert, the earthquake alarm went on and we heard it was a big one. We pray for the safety of Japan and all its people. Thank you Japanese Chasters, thank you Japanese audience!

No! This ain’t about differential and integral calculus that make many engineering and science students curse Newton and Leibniz in inventing them. It’s the mathematics of chaddiction and all that jazz!

It’s about obtaining the most efficient click-per-second in an online voting for Charice; the question whether hitting F5 buys more time than hitting other category and back; the calculation of time differences among all chasters to come up with the best timing to successfully trend anything about Charice on Twitter; the estimation of N/S, the ratio of number of browsers opened versus the speed of your internet connection to amplify YouTube’s view counter of Charice’s MTVs and videos and the likes. Charice’s “Bodyguard Medley” Goes Viral

Charice’s “Bodyguard Medley” Goes Viral

On February 12th, a Chaster named “Amsterdam” re-uploaded a video on Youtube where Charice was singing the so-called Bodyguard Medley (I Have Nothing and I Will Always Love You) accompanied by Mr. David Foster on the piano.

Amsterdam’s video description:

No copyright infringement. This video belong to the right owner. Please visit the original uploader (CHAMU Chaster’s from Canada). Take note that Charice is crying because this is the last tour concert with her friends. This is only a fan made for Whitney Houston and Charice. Youtube link Whitney Houston [ RIP ] from 17 yo – Charice in tears , 2009 concert

Original Video from Chariceweekly:

Actually nothing unusual, Chasters have been uploading, re-uploading, editing videos of Charice, we’ve seen them all. But of course this was a very touching performance that made a big impact even to a long-time fan like me: Schoen’s Blog. Because I don’t think it’s easy to sing while trying to hold back her tears at the same time. So emotions just poured out of this very tiny body.

As Amsterdam was paying tribute to Whitney using this video on Youtube, one site caught it and featured it as “Female Cover Of The Week: 17-Year-Old “Charice Pempengco” From The Philippines Does Whitney Houston Tribute & She Did That!” Site link: World Star Hip Hop.

That was February 13th, so far so good, nothing special….yet…. until this:

Yes!! Mr. Perez Hilton featured that same video on his site on Feb. 14th and twitted it. And we know he has millions of followers right? The video went viral as “Charice’s Whitney Houston Tribute”.

Different online sites followed, here`s our complilation starting with Hollywood Life’s Charice Performs Epic Tribute To Whitney Houston In Concert and they even added an Update:

(UPDATE: It turns out this video is being inaccurately sent around the internet as a new tribute video, when it was actually filmed back in 2009. But it means so much more now, so I’ll let it slide.)

Kfox95.com featured an additional video where Charice performed “I Will Always Love You” in a Japanese show:

Chasters have then started twitting and re-twitting the video and the rest is history. She was 17 years old that time way back in 2009. Judging by the positive reactions and comments to the video, it is very clear than people have been touched or amazed or even just enjoyed watching and listening to her.

Charice could really give justice to a Whitney Houston song. Of course, Chasters need not be convinced how talented she was when she was younger and still is at this stage where she learned how to use and control her voice to her advantage. Contrary to other negative twits about Charice using Whitney’s death to push her career now, just letting them know, inform yourself first. It’s not her fault at all if news are being written about her on this.

What Should People Know About Chasters

What Should People Know About Chasters

Originally defined as individuals who admire and love Charice for her extraordinary talent, her persona and for her courageous spirit who trod a difficult road that only few will risk themselves to tread the road less taken. Such courage has brought her to the top full of humility, unchanged and continuously overcoming challenges. These are just a few reasons why these individuals rooted for Charice and are called CHASTERS (Fans of Charice).

To deepen people’s awareness about the Chasters. Here are some points that are very important to remember:

1. Chasters are a combination of loose organizations and individuals from all over the globe. First, there are loose organizations of Chasters in some countries and states manage by Chasters-volunteers and operate on their own, whose expenses are coming from their own individual pockets. They drove and traveled anywhere where they could find Charice singing live either with David, with some famous stars or on her own and then ended their activity by having a dinner or lunch together full of life and love to share. The second one, are the individual Chasters who searcg for the other Chasters through the websites of some talented and skillful Chasters with Charice as the focal point of discussion. Here, the individual Chaster can connect and be updated and in the process become close friends with other Chasters or tweeter followers of Charice.

2. Chasters either a loose organization with known or famous members or simply individuals who rely on social networking, have a lot of things in common. They are united in the spirit of mutual respect, mutual support, mutual trust and love for each other. That is why you can see or read or hear Chasters calling the others as “bunso” or the youngest, Chasterclause for a particular unknown Chaster who gave her or his money to some Chasters for a mission abroad to support Charice, brother or sister Chaster, “lola” to address a grandma Chaster, “tito” or “tita” Chaster to address Chasters who are at their 40′s or 50′s, “kuya” or “ate” Chaster to address a Chaster a little bit older than them and Chaster-friend for the newly found Chasters. In short, there are no strangers in Chasters.

3. Chasters are diverse people coming from all walks of life, blessed by God as a special kind of group where the kingdom of God is very much felt by everyone because they have proven themselves as one people regardless of race, religion, language and political belief. Though they belong to the different countries or states but they are constantly connected with each other everyday through social networking, you tube, tweeter, email, chat, skype, etc.

4. Chasters are not perfect individuals, some of them become emotional and sometimes succumbed to pass harsh words against haters of Charice but pacified later by other Chasters, because Charice didn’t want Chasters to hate the haters.

5. Finally, Chaster are growing not just in numbers all over the world but as persons. Their age ranges from 4 to 76 or more and they have come to learn to love, to cry, to laugh and to accept for who you are and what you are and have.

Passing The Torch

Passing The Torch

Dedicated to all the Past, Present and new Charicemania Moderators

As hinted by one of our “eldest but respected” team member, maybe I should write about that special someone who helped a lot of people and chasters, not only Charicemania. But I haven’t been writing for a long time because for me, writing needs an inspiration. But this someone in the CM team, I know personally and have learned to appreciate and cherish as a person a lot. But how can you write about someone who does not want to be mentioned? Impossible? Not really, but a lot of time is needed to think this over.

Our first joint project: PICC Valentine’s Concert with Charice, February 2010. The idea that I told MommyRaqz back then was that we have to try that every single seat on this concert would be occupied! And because I knew that many fans of Charice couldn’t afford the tickets, this would be an opportunity to distribute free tickets!

But we need someone from Charicemania team that should be there before, during and after the concert to organize. Most of Charicemania’s team members are far from Manila. We need somebody: we need this “someone”! We didn’t really know each other very well back then but I knew exactly that we could rely on this person, very trustworthy (a very important factor when it comes to money matters), approachable for everyone, young and has a very strong personality. The right one indeed!

The logistics alone for this project was overwhelming as we’ve ever imagined before: ordering tickets, looking for sponsors, where to send the money, paypal, bank accounts, meet and greet arrangements, venue, what if Charice wants to come, security questions, programs, IDs, banners, questionnaires for free tickets, applicants, etc., etc. Being actively involved here, made it possible to have known a lot of generous people as well but at the same time knowing some who were not honest, who just wanted to take advantage of the generosity of others. Well, nothing new. Glad these are exceptions to the rule!

In the course of the countless conversations between us regarding our project, I tried to teach this person how to say NO! … unfortunately, often in vain (a person who has a very good nature, is hard to train). Always believing in the good and positive sides of others, which is neither bad nor a wrong thing, as long as it doesn’t get into the substance of one’s human being.

What followed were the countless requests and ideas, when there’s something to be organized for Charice, to promote her like TV performances, concerts and Meet & Greets in Manila (we’re talking only about the ones we knew which were open to all Chasters and not the exclusive chasters’ parties which CM was not involved with). We always had the right contact person! Charice’s management in Manila could always rely on this person, that’s a fact!

Charicemania’s goal is still to promote Charice worldwide! Not only to the few who were convinced already anyway. Of course it is nice and is also good to see known people and to see familiar faces again and again but we also look forward to a lot of “new faces” like new fans who come to us. We welcome them all too.

Message for that someone: When you asked me months ago why I became inactive for months, not writing nor posting, if you remember my reply? “I couldn’t do anything anymore!” That was my feeling. You tried to persuade me to come back but the time was not ripe enough.

When I was asked “officially” to go back in CM, it was a feeling of having to do something again when needed. We have new people in the team here in Charicemania. I really hope to pass it on, that they continue to do what we do so that we can move on and expand, that Charice becomes more popular. Only one person can’t do the work alone. We couldn’t convince all which of course was very disappointing but we can’t take it personally. Those we could convince, we hope they stay and help.

Take a break, yes, take it slowly, but don’t disappear entirely, if we could still prevent that from happening (hopefully).

To the team, what I can pass on to you personally is this: “take the time off that you need” but hopefully come back from time to time and again, Charicemania will welcome you with open arms.

cm xmas 2 239x300 Passing The Torch

Christmas is the time to give, the time of forgiveness, the time to move on, to look forward to something new and good, to leave all negativities behind. Charicemania and Team wishes you all a very blessed Christmas!

The Joy of Giving: Charicemania’s Stories

The Joy of Giving: Charicemania’s Stories

Super VIP Project

Author: Anonymous

“I want to sponsor some kids (from disadvantaged background) to see Charice in concert the next time she is in the Philippines. Can you facilitate it for me?”

I got an enthusiastic yes and so began a three-month partnership between us. The many Chasters who assisted with the project and me. The journey would play out in several parts of the Philippines; intersect with Charice’s widely reported invitation to Arjohn Gilbert to perform with her in her solo concert and culminate in the kids meeting Charice in person.

cha kids2 273x300 The Joy of Giving: Charicemanias StoriesIn February of this year I began to compile a bucket list. People compile bucket lists for any number of reasons; some use it as a ‘places to go on holiday’ list. Some people use it as a tool for self improvement or for a bit of fun. I don’t quite know how to define my bucket list other than to say that it is filled with lots of items which I simply feel are the right thing to do. The first bucket list item I came up with: give 5 kids in the Philippines (who due to their life circumstances would have great difficulty in meeting the costs of concert tickets and associated expenses on their own) the chance to watch Charice live in concert. I drew inspiration from this YT video of some kids who came to watch Charice during a mall show in the Philippines in 2009.

IMG 5487 300x200 The Joy of Giving: Charicemanias StoriesOnce upon a time Charice’s circumstances as a child would have been similar to the children featured in this video from 2009. I always remark to my friends and family that Charice’s success is a mark of how the world occasionally gets it right. To go from a kid being raised (along with her brother Carl) by a single mother in Laguna, Philippines to become an International Star beloved by Oprah and legendary music producer David Foster…it’s an impossibility that the forces of good have made possible. Self belief must have sustained her prior to the success, but I think she also held on to a very powerful commodity: hope! So back in February I said to myself why not give some children a little bit of hope that they can reach for something better, by giving them a chance to see Charice live in concert; and to show them that a stranger cares. Charice after all, has walked in the same shoes as many of these kids and if she defeated the circumstances she was born in, then who’s to say that they cannot. My purpose back in February was clear. I let someone know my intentions back then. All we needed was confirmation of a Manila Concert date.

Several months passed, then in July, yes – confirmation that Charice would be with the David Foster & Friends Asian Tour with the Manila Concert slated for October 25. This is when the million and one emails and instant messages between us began. That one person was the driving force behind the whole project and I can’t thank her enough for the effort that was put in this. The task I set wasn’t an easy one, but was remarkably fulfilled the whole way through. The first question asked was about what tickets I had planned to get the kids. I wanted the kids to get the very best tickets: Super VIP. I made it clear that funds would not be a problem throughout the project. I was committed to the kids getting the very best if it was in my power to give it to them. Whether it was transport, food, accommodation, clothing or additional concert tickets for 1 guardian – I was committed to giving it to them.

cha kids 300x244 The Joy of Giving: Charicemanias StoriesIt was suggested that the candidates for the Super VIP tickets have a musical ability of some type so she started to scour Youtube, to look for Filipino kids from poor backgrounds with singing/musical ability (of which there are plenty in the Philippines). One of the first vids sent me was of a kid called Arjohn Gilbert. I was asked what I thought and I told said that I thought he was brilliant and gave the go signal to look for him. The email exchange between us regarding Arjohn occurred a week before Charice posted a link of Arjohn on her Twitter and Cha’s subsequent request for Chasters to look for Arjohn. We thought it was funny that Charice wanted to find Arjohn too. They found him and met with Arjohn. They invited Arjohn to the David Foster and Friends Concert to watch Charice in the Super VIP section. It was at this meeting that Arjohn accepted Charice’s twitter invitation (via a video response) to perform at her solo concert in the Philippines slated for December. I was quite amused that our little project had criss crossed with events featured throughout the entire Philippine media, with Charice and Arjohn’s exchange receiving wide coverage.

The Manila team would eventually make contact with 5 kids in total, whether the contact was made through a third party or by actually travelling to the homes of the kids, the team put in an amazing effort. The invitation to attend the concert was extended to the kids and a guardian. The five kids chosen were: Arjohn Gilbert from Marcos Village in Mabalacat, Pampanga; Joan Cosme from Botolan, Zambales; Rod Jhone M. Erejo and his brother Roland from Concepcion, Cabiao, Nueva Ecija; and Tonton a streetkid who was found at Sto Domingo Church. All these kids have experienced a life of hardship. Tonton for example, sleeps under a bridge at night, and yet when you look at them the first thing you notice is their beaming smiles. They serve as an example to all of us of how to never let life get you down.

cha kids01 300x273 The Joy of Giving: Charicemanias StoriesWe eagerly waited for concert day October 25, 2011 and then finally it arrived. I texted on the afternoon of the 25th to see how things were going. The text back to me put the biggest smile on my face: “Kuya, the kids met Charice in person this morning…now taking the kids shopping before the concert!” I was so happy to hear that the kids were able to see Charice at the Meet & Greet organised at the Sachi Restaurant. I was so energized by it for hours afterwards. My excitement really brought home to me how much the project had grown in my heart and how much affinity I had now developed for these five kids I had never met. I learnt later that it was at this same meet & greet that Charice formally invited Arjohn to perform at her solo concert on Dec 2nd at Newport Performing Arts Threatre in Resorts World, Manila. I was doubly excited!

Then finally, concert night. David Foster and Friends, Manila 2011 featuring Charice, rocked! From what was reported back to me the kids had a great time and were a great help to her when it came to distributing glow sticks in the floor section before the start of the concert. During the concert, Rod Jhone got a kiss from Charice as she walked through the crowd while singing ‘Louder’. It was a very special moment for Rod Jhone. I was so happy for him. Then finally the concert was over and three months of making “my organizer” run around doing my bidding came to an end. That person was my rock throughout the whole project. I cannot speak highly enough of that special someone that Chasterworld is truly blessed to have..

IMG 5514 300x199 The Joy of Giving: Charicemanias StoriesThe question that has been posed to me has been: why did you do it? Why commit the amount of time and resources that I did? I simply say that it felt like the right thing to do. Every now and then we feel a great pull towards a cause, but sometimes sadly, we don’t act on it. I’m happy I acted on this one. The Super VIP Project had been an obsession of mine since February of this year. It has been a truly enriching experience for me, as it has been for both of us and the Chaster team involved; and hopefully the experience of a lifetime for the most important people involved in all of this – the kids.

I would like to extend a big thank you to all involved in the project, but most especially a big thank you to the organizing Team and the kids. You made it an amazing experience for me, even though I was not there to witness what happened personally, I felt like I was with you every step of the way. Thank you!

Why do we do what we do?

Author: In behalf of all the moderators

A lot of people have been asking me this. Actually, almost everyone around me are asking me this (chasters and non-chasters). What’s the point they say? As my friends would point out to me… She does not even know you: Organizing Meet and Greet for fans, sponsorships, distributing tickets, running around in general. Every time I get so stressed or have too much on my workload, I would always say, this is the last one.

IMG 5387 300x199 The Joy of Giving: Charicemanias StoriesAnd then something happened, someone whom I never met suddenly told me they want to sponsor five unpriviledged kids to a Charice concert. And this someone whom I or any chaster have not met before. Who could say NO to that? The reason why I became an active chaster in the first place was because I believe that Charice and her music could change and inspire people; To bring positivity to this world in these uncertain times. As she inspired me to be the best that I could be, I always hoped that by helping promote her to other people, they would be inspire other people as well to be the best that they could be.

I know that other chasters have been sponsoring other chasters to go to events like this. But this one is different. Very Different. It is a chance to actually change and inspire a kid’s life. So I also got hyped up with the idea. It is easy to just go to a charity group or organization and get some kids there. It is less time consuming. However, I thought it would be special if these kids get handpicked by Chaster themselves. So I asked around who their suggestions are. And chasters came out with their own suggestions.

1) Arjohn Gilbert (from Pampanga)- found in Youtube

Contacted through his Facebook account which was created by a fan

This was the video message we got

2) Rod John Erejo (From Nueva Ecija)- The kid with a cleft palate whose YT vid of pyramid got him an Operation Smile sponsor.

Contacted through the Facebook of Jessica Soho Team

3) Roland Erejo (From Nueva Ecija) – brother of Rod John

4) Tonton (From Quezon City) – found begging in Sto Domingo Church. Referred by
a Chaster. He assists in backing up cars and selling Sampaguita to church goers.

5) Joan Cosme (from Zambales) – found in Youtube. Contacted through the Facebook of Raffy Tima, a reporter from GMA

Contacted her through reporter Raffy Tima of GMA

IMG 5615 200x300 The Joy of Giving: Charicemanias StoriesAnd Yes, I was surprised that they actually replied through facebook. Mark Zuckerberg rock! There were Chasters who literally went knocking on the doors of ABS-CBN and GMA just to get in contact with some of these kids, which was really awesome. They pretended to be students doing a research paper about the kids. I think they got busted at some point.

Anyway moving forward, now it’s the time to organize a Meet and Greet and a Chaster gathering for October 25. I can’t say thank you enough for the chasters who volunteered so much of their time, resources and money to put things together.

Fast forward from all the meetings and preparations, Meet and Greet time. October 24, we were trying to follow up if Charice could have time to meet with some lucky chasters and of course the kids while she is here in Manila. The experience for the kids would not be special if they would not be able meet the reason why they were there. Alas, there was no confirmation. There was a confirmation though that time that chasters were invited to welcome Charice in the airport when she arrives.

Could this be the Meet and Greet already? I was saddened coz the kids wont be arriving until the next day. We rushed all the welcome banners the night before Charice arrives. Special mention to Java for not getting enough sleep just to finish the design and print the tarps. It was a fun experience though for chasters who cancelled all their plans to welcome Charice back to her home country.

IMG 5560 300x199 The Joy of Giving: Charicemanias StoriesOctober 25. The day of the concert! We picked up the kids early in the morning. At exactly 10 am, her manager confirmed that there was going to be a Meet and Greet at 12 noon! In two hours!!! My heart suddenly leapt out my car window coz I was driving at that time. There was no venue. I don’t have enough internet access. Not even a list of chasters who would be able to make it to Cubao (Take Note: It was a workday, Tuesday). Not all of the kids have arrived in Manila yet. I know that a lot of chasters are goin to be saddened, not to mention some of them would be furious, if I won’t be able to contact all of them on time. Of course, I want every chaster to have equal opportunity to meet her. So I decided to keep the Meet and Greet for the kids only since there was not enough time to organize everything. Considering the traffic in Manila, chasters won’t be able to make it to the venue by 12 noon if I contact them at that time. At 11 am, I just arrived in Cubao! I asked Bluemax, who fetched the other kids on the terminal to go directly to Cubao. They found a venue which was a bit pricey and according to their specifications: Near Araneta and private. And then, something amazing happened. Charice herself is willing to move the time to 1 pm. (which is actually a conflict with their rehearsals inside Araneta) and she is willing to accommodate every chaster she could.

So text blast galore! Everyone forwarded the text message. Honestly,  I was a bit nervous if a lot of people would ever show up. The venue is not even fit for a M&G coz its a restaurant. Good thing the tarps for the CHaster Gathering just arrived and Beda was ready with her scotch tape! Hahaha. So we just sticked it to the wall just to make it look good in the pictures. And by 1 pm, voila! 36 chasters showed up. Some have not even taken a bath yet just to be able to arrive there in time.

After the Meet and Greet, we went straight to the mall and bought some clothes for other kids. They are going to sit in a VIP seat afterall, so they should look like one. By that time, Arjohn and Joan had a manager already so there was really no need for us to buy them clothes. As for the rest of the kids, we bought everything from head to toe. We had a blast doing a makeover for them. At 4 pm we rushed to their hotel and asked them to take a bath. And they made a swimming pool out of a bath tub. They were excited to see their rooms since they got a bed by themselves. We did not have time to linger that much so when everyone is dressed up and ready to go, we went straight to the Chaster Gathering.

IMG 5461 The Joy of Giving: Charicemanias StoriesWe were a bit late. Everyone was eating already by that time. The kids were briefly introduced to the other chasters. We rushed to the venue since it was almost 8 pm already. But of course, the concert started a bit late too which was a good thing since chasters had time to distribute glowsticks. We let them settle in their seats and bought them snacks and after a while, after they saw chasters distributing glowsticks, they volunteered to help out themselves. Cute little chasters trying to promote Charice to people who paid 15K for their tickets.

I went back to my seat and sat from a distance. And it looks like they were having a blast. At one point they were even standing up and dancing to the music. As we went out of the Coliseum that night, head was aching. Stomach grumbling (I couldn’t even remember if I have eaten that day), I thought to myself, why am I doing this again? Seeing the kids’ faces, remembering how their faces lit up when Cha walked in the room, recalling how giddy they all were in meeting Charice, seeing their smiles were from ear to ear when Charice was hugging them. After seeing this, I thought to myself, that this is the reason why I do what I do.

Just like previous moderators and organizers made a way for me (a complete stranger for them at that time) to meet Charice, I wanted to “Pay it Forward” to other people as well, both chasters and non-chasters alike. That way, Charice’s reach and inspiration would be more extensive. “Pay it Forward” is an old concept and it seems to be a utopia dream. It has been criticized by many because not all people would be essentially good and would pay it forward to other people. Promotes free riders. I would like to believe though that Paying it Forward or rather Paying “Charice” forward would help change someone’s life in a positive way. And the more it would be put into practice, more people would hear the voice of Charice. Paying It Forward relies on cooperation, so I intend to do my part – and I have done it. I hope you will too.

A Magical Night with Charice: No Words, Just Tears

A Magical Night with Charice: No Words, Just Tears

INFINITE POSSIBILITIES! These are the two words that come to mind when I think of Charice’s Message in her Infinity Album. This girl is living proof that dreams do come true no matter how impossible it seem to be. Last October 25,2011, another girl, a chaster named Kimmie had her dream come true as she had her surprise duet in front of the 12,000 audience in Araneta Coliseum, Manila.

Video uploaded by Bluemax

This is her story:

ONE MONTH before the concert, I posted something in my  Facebook, Twitter, and Plurk account. ‘Dear Lord, I hope someone soponsors my ticket for the DFF Tour with Charice on Oct. 25, 2011, I do hope this wish comes true”. I was just kidding, then suddenly, “Sisa”, a gorgeous chaster in and out whom I consider as my elder sis said she will take care of it. Woah, I never expected that she would sponsor me. She was really nice to me and I was so thankful about it. Two days after, the money to be used to buy the ticket was sent to our house. A week and a half later, I lost the ticket due to my carelessness. I remember putting it under the bed but when I tried looking for it, I really can’t find it. My guess is that our maid might have thrown out the ticket when she cleaned my room. Then one day before the concert, Ate Tintol sent me a private message on Facebook. I was at school that time, that was around 7pm. She told me to send her a text message if I don’t have a ticket yet. She still has extra ticket and she said she will give me one. OMC, i was so happy to know that because I really thought I won’t be able to watch the concert anymore.

THE MAIN EVENT.

I arrived late at the Chaster Concert gathering where I was supposed to sing due to so much traffic. I first look for Ate Tintol to ask for my ticket. She asked me to choose between Upperbox A or B. She said that more chasters will be seated in Upperbox B than A, but UpperboxA is nearer the stage. So, I chose the ticket for Upperbox A.

The concert started at around 8pm. I felt sad because I was alone in my seat, away from the group of chasters I’ve met earlier. I just kept on screaming and singing along with the performers as if nothing matters.

A DREAM COME TRUE.

A lot of people has been asking me if what had happened at the concert was scripted. I told them that everything was unexpected! When the concert started, I was screaming non-stop since the other chasters are far from me and I dont have anyone to talk to. I was so excited because I really want to see charice.

At the mid-part of the show, there was one point when David Foster ask the audience who wanted to sing in the stage. He first picked out audiences at the VIP section. Later on, he then asked if anyone staying a little bit farther the stage also wants to sing. I started screaming my lungs out and raising my hand then, the people around began pointing at me. I was shocked when the spotlight was suddenly focused to us. David F. said i need to be at the stage in 20 seconds, Geeeez, that’s close to impossible since the section where I was seated was kinda far from the stage. The marshalls assisted me to the backstage. I thought I was gonna sing immediately. I got a little worried when I found out that I’m not going to sing yet. I thought they already forgot about me. While waiting at the backstage, the staff and the other performers are almost at my reach. I shook hands with them and kept on smiling to all.

Then the moment I have long been waiting for came, I heard Charice singing on the stage. She was singing POWER OF LOVE, OMC. I couldn’t stop myself from crying that time. I felt a little shy because the people around were already looking at me. The moment charice came down the stage, she hugged me and signed the souvenir i brought from the Pre-Concert Chasters Gathering.

The concert continued and when it was nearing it’s end, the staff told me that they will try their best to still be able to put me on the show and let me sing. Charice approached me and asked me if I’m just ok. She was trying to comfort me coz she might have felt that I was feeling a little down. She said sorry because David might have forgotten me coz he was really tired that time. I told her it’s ok, there’s no need to say sorry coz seeing her is really more than enough to complete my night. But deep inside, I did feel a little sad coz I really thought that Sir David Foster already forgot me. Then, one of the musicians approached me and asked me what song do I know and if I have ever hold a mic. They never thought I was really singing. I told them I know the song “I will Survive”, they said they weren’t ready for that. They asked if I know “My heart will go on”, I told them I don’t know the complete piece. How about Because you loved me? I said YES! I waited a little more, then when I heard that the performers were already singing Earth Song, I knew that the concert was about to end, I thought again that I might not be able to perform anymore.  Then I suddenly remembered that I left my bag at my seat in Upperbox A. Good thing the staffs are really kind enough to take care of it. They were able to get it back from my seat.

I heard Araneta Colisum roaring when David Foster played his major hits and the audience were singing along.  Then after that, David called me up the stage. OMC to the highest level, I was getting so nervous. Then I saw Charice looking at me as if she was saying good luck. I was still so nervous but I know I need to overcome this feeling so I started singing. I shouted CHASTERS in the middle of the song coz i feel that I represent every Chaster there. Suddenly, the most unexpected happened, Charice came up the stage. That is something I really never expected coz the last time I saw her, she was just at the backstage looking at me and giving me the courage to go on just by looking at me. I had the most unforgettable duet of my life. I just noticed myself crying while singing with her, THANK GOD we were still able to finish the song. Charice was exceptionally nice as well as David. They continued cheering me even when I’m going down the stage.

cha and kim 2 A Magical Night with Charice: No Words, Just Tears

I received a BIG hug from Charice. After that, Ate Tintol sent me a text message, she said, “I guess losing your ticket was a blessing in disguise. You were awesome at the stage. The Chasters are proud of you! “. icon smile A Magical Night with Charice: No Words, Just Tears ~end~

Note: For everyone’s information, the sponsored ticket (which was donated by a Chaster Clause the last minute to another chaster) was an Upperbox B ticket. However, a friend of mine who was supposed to be on the Upperbox A seat had an emergency and was not able to go to the concert the last minute so I gave Kimmie a choice. Upperbox A or B? You guys know the rest of the story. As Chaster ImKarl puts it in his blog about the event:

“Life is too ironic to fully understand. It takes sadness to know what happiness is. Thinking that kimmie was upset and sad days before the concert because of her lost ticket but she was able to stand and sing in the middle of a huge crowd singing a heart-warming song with her ultimate idol for life. A magical night. To describe it NO WORDS, JUST TEARS”

Charice Bids Farewell to Dad: “Please Say You’re Proud of Me.”

Charice Bids Farewell to Dad: “Please Say You’re Proud of Me.”

I went back to my hometown on All Saints’ Day, the national holiday to honor and celebrate the memories of loved ones who have passed away, still reminiscing about my just-ended joyful ride with Charice and the Philippine Chasters. Little did I know that another chapter will be added albeit a sad one when I received a text message from abBonita that Charice’s father had just met a violent death.

Through Bluemax, I heard the next evening that Charice had returned from Jakarta and that some Chasters were already at the Divine Mercy Viewing Chapel in Muntinlupa where Ricky Pempengco was lying in repose.  Unlike in the US where visiting hours are limited to about 9:00 pm, 24-hour vigil is customary in the Philippines when relatives and friends can visit at any time.  I arrived at about 9:30 pm and found the place already encamped by the 3 major networks, TV cameras in place, looking for scoops and people to interview.  Huge bouquets of white flowers sent by Chasters from Japan, Singapore, Los Angeles and Lantao were among those that bedecked the hall. I paid my respect to Ricky and was then told that Charice was resting in a private room.  After being given permission to enter, I talked to Mommy Raqz and to Charice who was slumped in a bed being attended to. She looked tired, sad, and haggard, just like any typical teenager who lost a loved one and none of the image of a celebrity that she is.  I extended condolences to her on behalf of the entire Chaster family and told her how all Chasters really love and care for her and her well being. I even advised her to take a break,  get much needed rest and that, personally, I want her to be around for many years to entertain my grandchildren long after I’m gone. She held my hand and just said, “Salamat po (Thank you)”.

The next day, I found the place packed with relatives, friends, and many Chasters! In fact, many Chasters were still coming past 12 midnight direct from their second shift jobs just to be with Charice in her hours of bereavement.  Little CutieSinger, one of our youngest Chasters at 12 years old was present who later tried to catch a few winks on the lap of Tita Wower.  There was a time that almost half of the room was filled with Chasters!  Charice, Mommy Racqz, and Carl were busy entertaining late-coming friends and relatives.  Charice, when in her happy mood was like a kid playing around with CutieSinger, who was so shy and starstruck that it took her awhile to approach Charice and be prodded to sing a few notes.  It was turning to be quite a happy occasion – a time of reconciliation, understanding and healing of the rifts among the Pempengco clan, and a time of more bonding and friendship.  I decided to leave at 4:00 am quite ashamed that I will not be able to sacrifice like the many but much younger Chasters (with the exception of a few of course) who were determined  to stick around for an all night, sleepless vigil. While my spirit said “Yay” to stay, my 67-year old body was not ready for the ordeal and was saying “Nay”.

I was back the following day in time to witness the family picture-taking and listen to the eulogies. Many of Ricky’s friends, sisters and other relatives reminisced about their experiences with Ricky. Mommy Racqz expressed how much she still loved him in spite of the sad past between them. Carl recalled a time of meeting a man who said to him how much he has grown, not knowing it was his father.  Then it was Charice’s turn.  Charice completely broke down, and cried like a little child, almost fainted and had to be consoled before she could even utter a word about her Dad.  And between sobs, reached out to whatever little memories she could recall – how her father wanted her to be a soldier.  She expressed how much she loved and missed him, and longed for the time  they could have had together had she learned earlier the sad state her father was living in.  Charice even mentioned a premonition while in Jakarta of seeing a security guard smile who looked like her father, just prior to hearing about his death.

The funeral procession started a little past 2:00 pm from Muntinlupa City to Cabuyao Memorial Park with a long convoy which included 5 full sized buses. The convoy created traffic and inched along the old national highway with hundreds of people lined up along the way hoping to catch a glimpse of Charice. It took a little over 2 hours to reach the cemetery which was so packed with people that it was very difficult to get near the burial site. I stood behind Carl trying to console him while Beda and Aki were profusely fanning Charice and Racquel. White roses were handed to family members for their last respect to Ricky. As the coffin was being interred, Charice broke down again. She sat almost in stupor as the tomb was being sealed.  It was a heart-rending sight to watch our princess, so bubbly and lively on stage now crying like a little child grieving for a tremendous loss.

As her SUV backed in to fetch the family, a big crowd trying to catch a glimpse of Charice formed blocking the exit. Security guards had to form a chain to create a path for the family.  A bunch of Chasters voluntarily followed suit and joined hand-in-hand to form a secondary chain in support of security with Beda barking commands like a little general for the crowd to back off. The crowd obeyed as Charice and family hurriedly walked into the vehicle and drove away as the crowd started to disperse.

As our bus sped away along South Luzon Expressway, I cannot help but think of the events that transpired the past few days.  That we have now witnessed the other Charice – the typical teenager, the little child that’s still in her, mingling with her roots, unmindful of the pinnacle where she stands as a star of the entertainment world – the girl with the beautiful shoes still planted firmly on the ground.

After all the hugs and kisses as we bid goodbye to go our separate ways, I cannot help but think that the love for Charice by the Chaster Family has now morphed from DEDICATION to FAITHFUL AND PROFOUND DEVOTION for the welfare of OUR PRINCESS.

Several Philippine news sources have reported the death which occurred Monday evening in Charice’s home town of San Pedro, Laguna, south of Manila. There have also been reports in American news as well – cbsnews.com and newsday.com – and other media around the world as the AP news release spreads under various headlines reading ” ‘Glee’ singer Charice’s dad killed in Philippines.”

Charice tweeted that she would be unable to appear with David Foster & Friends in the Singapore leg of the concert tour, November 3rd, due to her swift return home.
