So how’s the campaign coming, you ask? Omg Charice’s Pyramid feat. Iyaz video has over 76,000 hits in its first day of release! How’s that?!! And it’s been re-posted in tons of blogs throughout the blogosphere and been tweeted and re-tweeted almost non-stop.

The Pyramid promotion is gearing up to take Charice to the Top! And we’ve got exciting news to share with you to launch the campaign off to a great start. We just got word that Pyramid promos will begin airing on Radio Disney next Wednesday, March 3rd, and also streaming on RadioDisney.com. They’ll start taking votes for the song from March 3-6 and the final results will be announced on March 6th.

Votes will be taken at www.radiodisney.com from Wed 3/3 – Sat 3/6

“Pick It,” of course, at Disney Radio’s Music Mailbag – and just keep on voting like we did for Oprah!!!

Charice Pempengco first got attention for her big voice on a series of videos posted on YouTube. Hailing from the Phillipines, the singer went on to appear on programs both in her native country and all over the world. She most notably appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show several times. “Pyramid” is her latest single. It’s Pop/R&B-oriented a la Jordin Sparks’ “Tattoo”. It’s charming and cute.

There are remixes for “Pyramid” by Barry Harris, Dave Aude, Jonathan Peters, and Ruff Loaderz. Barry opts for a nice light circuit/house-styled mix. The piano keys and synths are really pretty. Dave’s is much lighter and more discoey than his usual with plenty of pianos as well. Really good. Jonathan’s mix is darker and harder. It feels more like a dub with all the cut up and looped vocals, plus those buildups and drops. It doesn’t have all the vocals. It feels a bit messy and noisy during certain parts. But this may sound better on a club sound system. Ruff Loaderz go in an electro house direction.

Overall, the package is quite good.

Charice on the plane!!!

An alert airplane passenger, a chaster obviously… waaaahhhh…. uploaded this YouTube video of Charice disembarking the plane at Indonesia, from the first class seats. You can hear the flight attendant saying “we missed our picture-taking… nevermind… congratulations.” I guess she didn’t bring her camera, too bad, LoL.

Well, the important thing is not that we have to know who the birthday party is for… Who cares, right? LoL …and perhaps we may never even get to see the video. BUT… I’m just happy knowing that Charice is performing in YET ANOTHER COUNTRY! How cool is that!!???!!!!!……..

Teen Star Charice Takes Italy by Storm — and Meets Her Match

Every time teen singing sensation Charice has performed in Las Vegas, the reaction has been sensational. Record producer David Foster, who has led entertainment for Andre Agassi’s foundation fundraisers and his own concert charity here, has always included Charice in the events and predicted that she’ll achieve stardom.

Talk show hosts Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres have featured Charice on their programs, but as of yet, she has no major breakout hit or record release, although she has been recording tracks for her debut. The songs include “I Will Always Love You” and her first international single “Note to God.”

Charice recently was invited to perform in a singing-only version of an America’s Got Talent-type contest and took Italy by storm! She was promptly hailed as an international superstar and was even invited to sing a duet of “The Prayer” with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.

But the real excitement came when she was teamed up with another teen sensation, 13-year-old Cristian Imparato. Now I’m too old in the tooth to really understand all of this, but I was moved, so much so that you have to watch these two remarkable and extraordinary kids appearing on Io Canto (I Sing). The program was broadcast on Italy’s national RAI TV network.

At their young ages, they both showed that they’ve got what it takes for stardom and that their names will become recognized worldwide in the years to come. A friend of mine from Tuscany who knew that I’d met Charice many times here in Las Vegas emailed me, “She simply took Italy by storm. The audiences were chanting for her, and she’s captured the hearts of the entire nation.”

WOW. Charice and Billy Crawford opened the show with a stirring rendition of FloRida and Nelly Furtado’s “Jump”. They really got the audience moving. Then Charice sang a duet with Arnel Pineda to “It’s a Whole New World”.

Once again, Charice shows her versatility by her dance moves and rapping with Billy, and her beautiful vocal range with Arnel.

Charice Ready for Love Life?

She’s turning 18 on May 10, so is Charice ready for a love life?

“If you ask my mom (Raquel ex-Pempengco),” Charice told Funfare, “she would say that it’s okay na [already]. But for me, hindi pa ako handa [I am not ready yet]. I still enjoy what I’m doing. My image may have changed at pati ang kilos ko [and how I act], pero deep inside me bata pa rin po ang pakiramdam ko [but deep inside, I still feel like a child].”

On Feb. 14, Charice will star in the Valentine show Charice in Concert with Ryan Cayabyab at the PICC Plenary Hall (starting at 8 p.m., produced by Face Figure Center), with special guests Erik Santos, George Yang, The Ryan Cayabyab Singers and Ogie Alcasid. Even if she has yet to fall in love, she will be singing love songs straight from the heart.

Asked who her ideal boy is, Charice blushed while answering, using her personal silver wireless microphone at yesterday’s mid-morning presscon at the Piano Bar of Hotel Rembrandt.

“Sa local, si Sam Milby; sa international, si Justin Timberlake.” [In local showbusiness, I like Sam Milby; but internationally, Justin Tmberlake].

She started singing when asked what her favorite love song is, I can wait forever if you say you’ll be there, too…, drawing applause from the select media guys present, and then she continued singing, Two less lonely people in the world… “I like both old love songs and the new ones,” she said.

As usual, Charice was singing more from her throat than from her diaphragm, and she could hurt her vocal chords as some singers did.

“She has been ‘commandeered’ by David Foster to take lessons and eventually Charice will correct that,” said Ryan who has handled Charice in two TV specials but is working with her in a concert for the first time. “She’s being handled well.”

Is Charice singing the right songs?

“She’s in transition; her voice is hilaw pa [not yet ready] for mature songs. She can’t help but sing the songs she’s singing now because ‘yon ang hinihingi ng mga tao [because people request for it]. But eventually, she will warm up to songs that are appropriate for her.”

At the presscon, Charice again recalled how much fun she had doing a guest role in Alvin and the Chipmunks (recently shown in the Philippines) as a contestant in a campus singing contest.

“I’ve always been a Chipmunks fan,” said Charice while hugging a life-sized doll named Charles Revenni Chester (CRCstands for her intial and those of her mom Raquel and brother Carl), again breaking into a Chipmunks song sounding, yes, like a Chipmunk.

And what would be her next Hollywood outing?

“None so far,” said Charice, sounding far more sophisticated than she was before she was discovered via the YouTube by Ellen DeGeneres two years ago. “If ever, I want to play a killer.” And who would she want to kill, if and when? “Si Tom Cruise,” she said, breaking into laughter.

Does Ryan think Charice will last long?

“Although she’s her own woman now, it all depends on her handlers. She will last until her handlers are interested in her. It’s not like forever na ‘yan. Everything will depend on how she’s handled and how they project her and, of course, on how she handles her voice and her talent.”

One of Charice’s “handlers” is Oprah Winfrey who invited Charice to guest on her show Oprah after Charice “debuted” on Ellen.

By the way, is it true that Ellen has some tampo [is upset] with her (because Charice now favors Oprah)?

“There’s no such thing. Nagkakaintindihan silang dalawa [they both understand each other]. I can appear in their shows. No problem there.”

What tips on, hmmmm, boys does Charice get from her Tita Oprah?

“Huwag daw muna ako magbo-boyfriend.” [Don't get into a relationship with a boyfriend yet].

Pyramid Update

We just got an update from Charice by way of her brother, Carl Ceiven, that Pyramid will be released soon. The club/dance remix will be available on iTunes on February 16 and the album version will be available at iTunes the following week on February 23. We’re awaiting confirmation from Charice’s manager, but wanted you to be the first to know in the meantime…. Stay tuned for further updates.

Charice Live in Vienna, Austria

It has been officially confirmed by Mommy Raquel that Charice will appear in concert in Vienna, Austria on February 19th, 2010. The concert will be held at the Arcotel Conference and Event Center which has a maximum capacity of 1000 people. Tickets are available at PNB (Philippines National Bank).

The event is being sponsored by CDC Holdings. We will update this post as soon as we have more information. In the meantime, we do encourage all Chasters to promote this concert thru social networking sites such as: Facebook event page, Twitter, MySpace or Yahoo Buzz.

“Sorry, Sorry” and David Foster, Top the Album Sales in Philippines

Without even trying, Charice is winning hearts over in S. Korea with her energetic Dance Party video which now has over 27,000 hits in 5 days and counting. “Sorry Sorry” is a very popular song in Korea and THE TOP K-pop song in the Philippines. I guess K-pop = Korean pop? It seems Charice knew what she was doing by posting this video, it will only gain her more popularity with the Koreans and the Asian market, and in fact is being viewed by countries around the world.

The video is now starting to pop up in Korean blogs and is going viral. The daily YouTube stats below show it had “Most Viewed” honors from several countries last Sunday, January 10.

Apparently Koreans didn’t know that the song was composed by American Drew Ryan Scott, with comments like “wow!!!! amaizing…is this version really exist? is this an american singer who sings this song?” Frankly, I didn’t know it either… lol, never heard the song before, but that’s besides the point. I’m from America and don’t listen to K-pop.

But as you can see, this song is super-popular in Korea. Here’s the “original” Korean version with 5.7 MILLION hits since June 2009 alone. Funny, though, it has absolutely ONE text comment – I guess Koreans don’t like to comment? Well it does have 33,235 Thumbs Up, never seen that before! …interesting, but anyway, it’s a catchy video. ‘Sorry, Sorry’ leads 2009’s K-pop album sales in RP

Korean idol group Super Junior’s “Sorry, Sorry” album is the top-selling K-pop album in 2009 in Music One stores in the Philippines, according to Universal Records.

Music One released its Top 25 Bestselling Albums list for 2009 based on album sales in three Music One stores from January to December 2009.

“Sorry, Sorry” landed at No. 10 and is the only K-pop album on the Top 25 list. “The Essential Michael Jackson 3.0” topped the list, followed by “You’re the Inspiration: The Music of David Foster and Friends” (which includes Charice Pempengco), Lady Gaga’s “The Fame,” Jed Madela’s “Songs Rediscovered 2,” and Sabrina’s “I Love Acoustic.”

According to Universal Records, “Sorry, Sorry” debuted at No. 1 in Music One Album Chart just three days after its release in September. It was also No. 1 in Odyssey Records stores in September.

Super Junior holds the distinction of being the first K-pop artist to reach No. 1 in album sales in the Philippines. More, “Sorry, Sorry” is the first K-pop album to reach Gold Record status in the country, having sold 7,500 copies three months after its release in September.

The album’s title track was voted No.1 in the Top 100 singles of the year countdown of Taiwan’s Hit FM radio station. “Sorry, Sorry” garnered close to 250,000 votes to beat Jam Hsiao’s “Princess” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face.”

Mini-album “Super Girl” of Super Junior M, a subgroup of Super Junior, also reached No. 1 in the Music One and Odyssey Records stores charts.

Charice Draws Praise Over Role in ‘Chipmunks’ Film

Even though she played a small role in Hollywood film “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,” Filipino international singing sensation Charice was thrilled that some people have noticed her in the hit family movie.

In the sequel to the cartoon characters’ 2007 worldwide smash, Charice plays herself, the biggest rival of the chipmunks in a singing competition. The 17-year-old songstress sang Alicia Keys’ “No One” in the film distributed by 20th Century Fox.“Very happy po ako na some people are tweeting me na nakita po nila ako sa movie,” the singer told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

“I’m very happy some people are tweeting me that they saw me in the movie”, the singer told abs-cbnNews.com

Charice was also happy over the sequel’s big success. Reuters reported that as of January 3 it ranked No. 3 in the worldwide box office, with $36.6 million sales record, and a 12-day total of $157.3 million.

The film has yet to be screened in the Philippines.

Like any Hollywood star, Charice had to audition to bag the role.

In her previous interview, Charice said the casting crew was impressed by her ability to modulate her voice to mimic that of a chipmunk. Reports also said that the director saw her performance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and was blown away by her voice.

Meanwhile, Charice is now in the United States to prepare for the release of her 2nd international single called “Pyramid,” which is part of her international album.

Charice’s debut album is expected to be launched either February or March of this year. There were reports that the formal launching will happen on Oprah, but Charice declined to confirm the speculations.

Charice Celebrates Love in Valentine Concert

Next to Christmas and New Year’s Day, undoubtedly the most important event in the year’s social calendar is Valentine’s Day. Dedicated to the human emotion of love, the milestone is celebrated with various special activities intended to cement the bond of love and affection among lovers, families and friends.

While a bunch of roses, a box of chocolates, a dinner at a first-class restaurant or a late-night movie have been traditional Valentine features, musical entertainment, such as concerts featuring top artists and performers, has gained wide popularity over the years as wonderful and memorable activities to fittingly mark the celebration.

This coming Valentine’s Day, join teen singing sensation Charice Pempengco as she celebrates the Season of Love through her music during a special concert on Feb. 14, 2010 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

Billed as “Ryan Cayabyab’s Charice In Concert,” the one-night musical event to be mounted by Xclusive Hits & Events, Inc. will also feature Erik Santos, George Yang and Mr. Ogie Alcasid as special guests.

Special production numbers will also be presented by the Ryan Cayabyab Singers.

To be directed by Ryan Cayabyab, the Valentine concert will showcase the extraordinary talent and style of the 17-year-old singing wonder as she performs an awesome repertoire of pop, R&B and soul hits popularized by her singing idols Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey, among others.

A product of numerous singing contests since age seven – from town fiestas in her native province of Laguna to vocal competitions on television – Charice gained worldwide recognition in 2007 after videos of her live performances were posted on YouTube, garnering millions of hits that turned her into an Internet phenomenon.

After a video of her rendition of the “Dreamgirls” anthem, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” became a hit on a Korean video-sharing website, she was invited to the South Korean talent show, “Star King,” where she performed the same song together with “A Whole New World” with Kyuhyun from “Super Junior.”

Charice got her big break when she appeared in the Dec. 19, 2007 episode of the top-rated “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” where she sang “I Will Always Love You” and “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.”

Five months later, she was a guest on the hugely popular “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” where she performed Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” to the delight of the host, who subsequently recommended her to be under the wings of music producer David Foster.

Her association with Foster marked a major turning point in Charice’s career and opened new doors to more and bigger opportunities in the international music and entertainment industry.

She performed with Foster for the first time as one of the entertainers during the May 17 opening of MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut, followed by her debut on the international concert stage in Foster’s May 23 tribute concert, “Hitman: David Foster and Friends,” at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, where she performed a medley of songs from “The Bodyguard” and her standard, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.”

When the program returned to the Mandalay Bay last spring, Charice received no less than six standing ovations from an obviously delighted audience.

In between her two Vegas appearances, Charice went on to perform with Andrea Bocelli during her birthday concert on Sept. 26, 2008 in his hometown of Lajatico, Tuscany, Italy, where, aside from her solo numbers, she also did a duet of “The Prayer” with the famous tenor in front of more than 8,000 people.

She also sang a duet of “Because You Loved Me” with Celine Dion on Sept. 15, 2008 at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, which received rave reviews in The New York Post and The New York Times. The performance was eventually featured on the Sept. 19, 2008 episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

She made her second appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Sept. 9, 2008, during which the famous host described her at “The Most Talented Girl In The World” after hearing her perform Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” with Foster on the piano.

During her most recent appearance on the same program, Charice elicited the ultimate tribute from Oprah: “You are a force to be reckoned with. That voice comes from something bigger than yourself. You’re pulling it up out of some place deeper than your little body.”

The singer’s outstanding vocal quality – which has been compared with those of Whitney Houston and Celine Dion (she also considers Mariah Carey and Regine Velasquez as her other musical influences) – likewise prompted a chorus of praises from other musical and entertainment celebrities.

In a TV interview, David Foster mentioned that Charice has the ability to mimic other people’s voices which, according to him, is characteristic of good singers, while Josh Groban stated in another report that her voice is one of the most beautiful he has heard in a long time.

The New York Post once called her a vocal prodigy for being able to sing “big songs” even in her tender age.

2009 was a banner year for Charice, who spent a great part of it in America, recording her debut US album, performing as one of the headlining acts in the “David Foster and Friends” 10-city North American tour, and appearing in her first feature film, “Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel.”

Her first US album is due for release in February or March, 2010, with the carrier single, “Pyramid,” available in the market in January.

“Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel” premiered in the US last Dec. 23 and will open in Philippine theaters on Jan. 8, 2010. Aside from appearing as herself in the film, Charice is also part of the official movie soundtrack with her rendition of “No One” by Alicia Keys, accompanied by The Chipettes.

As the year was about to end, Charice added another feather to her cap when she topped an online poll by the Oprah Winfrey show, beating seven global singing superstars: Whitney Houston, James Taylor, Michael Bublé, Rascal Flatts, Jennifer Hudson, Journey and Black Eyed Peas.

Charice emerged as the winner of the “Best Oprah Show Musical Performance” award, receiving 70 percent of total votes for her performance of “Note To God,” her debut international single that she launched on the show last May 18, 2009.

The song, written by Diane Warren and produced by David Foster, peaked at No. 35 in the Canadian Hot 100 and No. 44 in the US Billboard Hot 100.

Her coming Valentine’s Day show brings back the singing sensation to the local concert scene eight months after her first major solo concert last June 27 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia.

Singaporeans Show Love for Charice

There were a lot screaming fans, some of them crying unabashedly. Others gave the performer a jumping—not standing—ovation.

This was how Grace Mendoza, the Philippine manager of Charice Pempengco, described the hot reception the 17-year-old international singing sensation got in Singapore recently.

Laguna-born Pempengco was a special guest in the finals of the 2009 “Singapore Idol” talent competition held on Dec. 26 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, that country’s biggest sports and entertainment venue.

The following day, clips of Pempengco’s performance were uploaded on YouTube, the video-sharing website in which she was discovered about two years ago. One video had already been viewed by more than 9,000 people. A fan who shared the videos online claimed a crowd of 8,000 watched Pempengco at the Singapore stadium.

“We were really surprised at how the Singaporeans loved Charice,” Mendoza told the Inquirer Wednesday.

“It was totally unexpected. I myself was stunned and overwhelmed,” Pempengco said.

She was the only guest performer on the show, said Mendoza. The producers were reportedly compelled to get Pempengco after Singaporean fans sent e-mails clamoring for the Filipino singer.

The YouTube videos of her performance in Singapore showed a more confident Pempengco with a more mature voice easily gliding from low to high notes.

She appeared in trendy calf-high leather boots and used her personalized Sennheiser microphone studded with Swarovski crystals—reportedly worth P500,000.

Though very familiar to her Filipino fans, the songs she sang—a medley of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” and “I Will Always Love You” from “The Bodyguard” film soundtrack, and “Note to God,” a single from her forthcoming debut album recorded in the United States—cast a spell on the audience at the Singapore stadium.

After Pempengco’s first spot number, the show’s host was so bowled over that he almost knelt in adulation of the singer, said Mendoza.
