Support for Charice in the on-going Philippine media row continues to grow, with more voices backing her decision not to do interviews after her recent “1@11″ concert. Now, the event management company responsible for organizing the “1@11″ extravaganza at the SM Mall of Asia has rowed in behind Charice in the row over her lack of accessibility on the night. In a statement released on Thursday last week (Jan 21), the head of Genesis Entertainment, Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano, confirmed that the teenage Filipino music icon was unwell and decided not to take any interviews because of her health. While stressing that media relations policies are handled by Charice’s own management group, it stated that Genesis’ own representatives had observed the singer’s state of health on the night. “For the record, Charice was extremely exhausted as she had non-stop schedules in Los Angeles, arrived in the day of the show, went straight to rehearsals, then the event,” the statement read. “According to her representative, Grace Mendoza, she was very dizzy that day due to lack of sleep. We pray that some angry members of the media would forgive her inability to grant interviews that night.” Earlier this week, Charice’s mother, Mommy Raquel, rejected accusations from some quarters

in the media that success had changed her daughter and that she was now only fashioning herself “like a Hollywood icon,” saying Charice “never forgets to look where she came from.”

Charice appeared at a free concert at Enchanted Kingdom the following day and happily attended a press conference both before and after the show. She was her

usual bubbly, upbeat self, having obviously benefited from a good night’s sleep. But it was a short reprieve, as only a few hours after leaving the conference, she was on a flight back to Los Angeles. Within an hour of touching down at LAX, she was performing alongside her mentor, David Foster, and Donna Summer in a private performance for the Television Critics Association tour in Pasadena. Within 5 days, she had also performed at the FAAN gala event, and then traveled to Florida for a private party at Donald Trump’s resort, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach. That kind of schedule is enough to leave the most energetic of us flat out, and with health already high on her list of priorities for 2011, there can be no doubt that sleep after her Manila gig was the best thing for Charice.
