After you are done with grammar and pronunciation come the idioms or figures of speech. This is where Filipinos don’t understand American English. Americans can not speak without figures of speech. You “made my day” does not mean you completed 24 hours. It means you did something pleasing to me. You can not “second guess” on her actions means you can not predict what she does. “Go easy” on her means don’t demand, make it rough or hard for her. Oftentimes Filipinos say “she knows how to carry her dress” (marunong magdala ng damit); this can not be understood by Americans. Americans would say instead, she “looks sharp”. You’d need on the job training for idioms. Call time.

Pilita Corales and Charice represents the upper range and lower range in age respectively. Both of them are very talented and between them is the timelessness of the dream and reality of true musical ability. The two guys; I have never really listened to them before. But, I am sure they are both very qualified also. Charice gave the show vibrancy, youth, life, emotion, and the unexpected which is a plus. I wonder how Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are doing in X-Factor USA. I watched the videos posted by IstaylPinoy in Youtube and I am quite dependent on other people’s posting in Youtube to follow Charice. I just don’t get why some people are very impatient and have the “sky is falling” attitude about Charice’s career in the USA while she is working in the Philippines. I feel what she is doing right now is very relevant to her success and career internationally because guess what, the Philippines will become a very large part of the international scene. I think more and more young people are beginning to speak very good English because of more modern communication technology. Also, Youtube is now a valuable resource because there are so many helpful learning videos that other people have posted.

You should say, “many Filipinos speak good English…” not “many Filipinos SPEAKS good…” Subject should agree with the predicate.

Charice spoke good English when she first arrived in the U.S. (see her interview at the LAX), too good for even college graduates in the Philippines. Her only mistake was “this song really fit me”. She once got the mannerism of “you know… you know..” but she has improved a lot on this and she can also speak fast with almost American accent. DF took care of that problem that is why he kept saying that Charice could not speak a word of English because her accent was Filipino which is hard for Americans to understand. Now that she speaks English like Americans, Filipinos call her mayabang pa-islang-islang. Take note that when she speaks Tagalog she does not do it with American twang but with natural Filipino accent.

I love Charice, and a lot of people do too. I am her devoted Knight. I will sing songs for her even though I am not a singer from today’s perspective. I will write songs for her. This is what moves me. And this is why I write longish blogish comment in this forum or website. Thank you for all Chasters and readers who frequent this site. Visit my channel in Youtube but I wont say what it is because I am ninja.
