Charice’s “Bodyguard Medley” Goes Viral

Charice’s “Bodyguard Medley” Goes Viral

On February 12th, a Chaster named “Amsterdam” re-uploaded a video on Youtube where Charice was singing the so-called Bodyguard Medley (I Have Nothing and I Will Always Love You) accompanied by Mr. David Foster on the piano.

Amsterdam’s video description:

No copyright infringement. This video belong to the right owner. Please visit the original uploader (CHAMU Chaster’s from Canada). Take note that Charice is crying because this is the last tour concert with her friends. This is only a fan made for Whitney Houston and Charice. Youtube link Whitney Houston [ RIP ] from 17 yo – Charice in tears , 2009 concert

Original Video from Chariceweekly:

Actually nothing unusual, Chasters have been uploading, re-uploading, editing videos of Charice, we’ve seen them all. But of course this was a very touching performance that made a big impact even to a long-time fan like me: Schoen’s Blog. Because I don’t think it’s easy to sing while trying to hold back her tears at the same time. So emotions just poured out of this very tiny body.

As Amsterdam was paying tribute to Whitney using this video on Youtube, one site caught it and featured it as “Female Cover Of The Week: 17-Year-Old “Charice Pempengco” From The Philippines Does Whitney Houston Tribute & She Did That!” Site link: World Star Hip Hop.

That was February 13th, so far so good, nothing special….yet…. until this:

Yes!! Mr. Perez Hilton featured that same video on his site on Feb. 14th and twitted it. And we know he has millions of followers right? The video went viral as “Charice’s Whitney Houston Tribute”.

Different online sites followed, here`s our complilation starting with Hollywood Life’s Charice Performs Epic Tribute To Whitney Houston In Concert and they even added an Update:

(UPDATE: It turns out this video is being inaccurately sent around the internet as a new tribute video, when it was actually filmed back in 2009. But it means so much more now, so I’ll let it slide.)

Kfox95.com featured an additional video where Charice performed “I Will Always Love You” in a Japanese show:

The video even made it to the Top 5 Whitney Houston Tributes alongside with the legendary Aretha Franklin on International Business Times Whitney Houston Death Tribute.

And of course Glee’s Wetpaint.com site can’t miss Charice too: Charice’s Stunning Tribute to Whitney Houston: Former Glee Guest Star’s Tearful Performance.

Since Chasters love to vote – there’s even a poll going on: Who Sang it Better? So Chasters if you want to vote, visit the site.

Chasters have then started twitting and re-twitting the video and the rest is history. She was 17 years old that time way back in 2009. Judging by the positive reactions and comments to the video, it is very clear than people have been touched or amazed or even just enjoyed watching and listening to her.

Charice could really give justice to a Whitney Houston song. Of course, Chasters need not be convinced how talented she was when she was younger and still is at this stage where she learned how to use and control her voice to her advantage. Contrary to other negative twits about Charice using Whitney’s death to push her career now, just letting them know, inform yourself first. It’s not her fault at all if news are being written about her on this.

I stumbled upon this video by Hertzblaster who is a genius at editing and combining videos. This is probably the best Whitney tribute by Charice that I have seen so far.

You just can’t please everybody! You’ll always have these “haters” but we (Chasters) knows BEST! No matter what they say, she’ll always be number 1 to US. Just like wine, she’ll be much better in time….but I don’t know how much better…she’s there NOW! She just need exposure in the US, and her time will come. It took at least 3 years for all the great singers (ie. Celine, Mariah, and Witney) to grab the attention of the so-called music industry. Just be patient…her talent CANNOT be denied! Let’s get serious here “haters”, do you know of anyone that can sing like this? I don’t think so….enough said!!!

The “Bodyguard Medley” video was shot in Vancouver on Nov 8, the last stop on the DF&F multi-city tour. She’s crying because it’s the end of the tour & she’s leaving the friends she made such as Ruben Studdard. I saw this same rendition from the 2nd row (and met Charice at a meet ‘n’ greet) two nights earlier in San Jose, CA.

Charice will always be the same inside, kindhearted, humble and giving of herself. However, we mush accept that her voice is maturing and songs like the bodyguard medley will not be sounding the same as when she was 17 singing in Vancouver.

I am a chaster and will always be. As a chaster, I’ll accept any changes Charice will do or will be doing. The only thing I can do is support her from thick to thin and be right there, in the spot where I will be shouting and yelling her name.

Been a while since I posted here. Charice would she be the standard bearer with Whiney’s demise?

Well frankly so many years now the Bodyguard medley by Charice has been one of my all time fave. But to point out that her renditons are not always sung the same way and to the present her style and voice are still evolving for the better.

presently she is R%B because her management team wants her to target a certain market niche. however a few more years down the road she will again be belting out ballads and big songs.

Now riddle me this. Who aside from Charice in the near future can sing with conviction and aplomb songs from the repertoire of the super divas of the past?

So the future bids well for Charice. She is like excellent wine awaiting further vintage to be more exquisite and priceless.

By the way, there isn’t a video out there documenting the meeting of Whitney and Charice is there?

To my knowledge there is no video documenting the meeting between Charice and Whitney. There was an article about the meeting. I posted the link on February 18 of this thread.

Charice is evolving. The most obvious change is her looks; she is absolutely stunning! She is now more sophisticated, experienced, and a better singer. Each year she evolves, she gives us a different look and sound. At ages 9-17, she stunned me with her voice. Now she melts me!

Oh, the one posted by Perez taken during DFF is my all-time favorite Bodyguard medley by Charice. I’m glad to see it posted and acknowledged on various websites- and of course I end up watching it over and over and over again. For some reson, I also have a greater appreciation for this performance. Bravo Cha!!

Charice has performed so many renditions of the Bodyguard Medley. My favorite is the one she did w/DFF on Oct 30, 2010 in Singapore. She had just got out of the hospital(food poisoning -bad sushi) and was at the top of her form while interacting with the audience. It was argueably the best Bodyguard Medley that she ever did.

I know that Cha is really taking care of her voice. It’s been 12 years since she started singing at the age of 7 and we see the quality of her voice getting better and better. To me, she and her mom and a lot of other people have made every effort in protecting her voice probably even better than Adele. So in my opinion this lowering of notes is just an over-reaction to what happened to Adele. Adele is different from Charice.

But it could still happen. I think it’s just one of letting her voice really rest between concerts. that her concerts hopefully will be spaced out well by her manager for this important consideration, that it’s not just all about money. Otherwise, losing her voice becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Charice will probably be joining David Foster for his David Foster Miracle Concert on May 25-27, 2012 Victoria, BC, Canada; part of David Foster Foundation 25th Anniversary. I wonder what she will be singing?
The ticket is $1,000 and up. Look in http://www.davidfostermiracleconcert.com/ for more info. I still cannot see who the guest performers will be. But, Charice picture keeps appearing at the top.

And if there is something wrong with her voice that’s no biggie, a lot of performers go through this, they just get it fixed. Adele is a living proof. So haters, hate all you want coz Charice will be here for a long time….LOL!!!!

I would be perfectly happy if her voice has changed but her vocal range remained the same. If she has lost a few notes at the top she gained a few notes at the bottom.

just because she switched to RnB it doesn’t mean she can’t belt anymore lol what a stupid comment.she’s still very young and she does not abuse her voice.she’s not in drugs, alcohol and not even smoking.come to think of it people with little brain.she will stay in the business for a long time.and when the time comes she will again do ballads with a vengeance and put all of you people with mosquito brain into shame.sorry guys i’m just pissed off with this kind of people

boooo…you may be correct, but still it has no basis unless you charice told you this by herself.

we can only speculate but the idea that charice was able to hit the high notes e.g. lighthouse in studio version means she can still hit it. The point here i guess is to stop fabricating stuffs.

Charice is only 19..She can belt to the max if she want.. But too much belting is not good to her vocals….. Do you want her to stay in music business for 3 yrs instead of 30 yrs ?

@cha4eve and Sally-she mentioned that she will limit her belting even before lighthouse was recorded. What is so hard to absorb about that?.Even regular morons will grasp it.But then again I assumed you both are not regular.

Me too, pissed. Can’t wait for Charice to make it really, really big globally then we can throw pies at those people who doubted her especially to those people who has nothing to do but find fault in everything she does. Ah ,sweet revenge. Ha ha ha, i am being dramatic but it’s the best way to deal with pests so as not to be affected.

What’s wrong with Filipinos nowadays. When Charice was belting high notes on her records and concerts-some Pinoy writers were very critical about it and blasted Charice as belting too much and becoming boring. Now, that she is toning down on her live performances-these crazy Pinoys are criticizing her again as becoming a substandard singer and losing her belting voice. W-T-F ??????

@Sally, she can definitely hit those notes still. If she is not belting out much recently, its a preparation for her upcoming Asian concert as well as future endeavors. Not belting out too much will not make her a lesser singer. She is still the awesome Charice ^^
