With all the hype from a successful series of shows in the Philippines, Charice was also featured in CNN’s Talk Asia, a documentary-style, interview-based show that has spotlighted a number of famous personalities and newsmakers in the field of art, entertainment, politics, sports and business.
On its recent episode which was aired on Dec. 2, Charice sits down with CNN Correspondent Anna Coren in an all tell and in- depth interview about her phenomenal rise to fame, how she overcame a tough childhood life in the Philippines before having a big break in Hollywood and how it changed her life.
“Well it was really a tough life, not really simple. My mom’s a single mom and she used to be my vocal coach and I really admire her. She’s beyond doubt my inspiration and I look up to her a lot. I mean I chose to be a singer because of her. It was a tough life before but now this whole thing that happened to me really helped me a lot.”
“By the age of six I was cooking rice and some stuff for my small brother. I was giving him the milk and all…Every time I did all the singing contests and it was horrible. You start from 10pm in the night and you end at 7am in the daylight and I had to go to school. She used to weep and she told me to stop and I said “no” because that was the only way we could get a lot of money from it. I really sacrificed all but at the same time it felt fantastic and it was worth it. Seeing my mom’s face every time I won made me feel fantastic. ”
Filmed several weeks before her estranged Father’s tragic death, an emotional Charice tells Anna Coren about her relationship with her late dad. When asked if she misses her father, Charice (in tears) answered, that she at some point do still miss having a dad.
“I really don’t know. I don’t know. Maybe now and again when I see some kids with their families. Sorry I keep crying. Maybe when I question them now and again, how does it feel to have a dad? And you know they tell me these fantastic answers and now and again I wish my dad is here. Maybe I do, now and again. But at the same time, I don’t because of what happened. It’s hard. It’s really hard.”
