Charice will appear in her second Hollywood movie next summer with movies website IMDb.com reporting she has been cast in the action-comedy “Here Comes The Boom.”
“Here Comes the Boom,” which is currently being filmed in Quincy, Massachusetts, is directed by Frank Coraci, one of the most highly-rated comedy and romantic comedy directors in Hollywood. He also directed Adam Sandler in “The Wedding Singer” and “Waterboy,” both of which were critical and commercial successes.
This will be the second movie appearance for the teenage diva following her cameo role in “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” in 2009. But Charice finds herself in very good company as far as comedies go, with the movie boasting a cast headed by Mexican-born star Salma Hayek and Kevin James, who is also joint screenwriter and producer.
James is a veteran comedian and actor who has appeared in a host of comedies including “Hitch” alongside Will Smith, “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” and “Grown Ups” both alongside Adam Sandler. He also starred in the sleeper hit “Mall Cop” in 2009, and recently released “The Dilemma” with Vince Vaughn (playing in movie theatres now). Salma Hayek is also featured in “Grown Ups.”
According to IMDb.com, Charice is set to play the role of a girl called Malia, although there are no details yet as to where and how she fits into the plot.
But what we do know according to beantownbloggery.com is that Here Comes The Boom tells the story of a high school physics teacher whose school is facing drastic budget cuts, so he decides to moonlight as a mixed martial arts fighter to win prize money to save his best friend’s job and the music program that his students hold dear. He ultimately winds up doing battle in the UFC.
The Boston Herald reports that co-star Henry Winkler (as the best friend?) was on set just last week at Quincy High School to film his first scene as a music teacher conducting a 60-member student band. Winkler is best known for playing the iconic role of “The Fonz” on the long-running sitcom “Happy Days” in the 70′s.
Charice being a singer, we’re almost positive that she was on the same set playing one of the music students, especially since she is reportedly in Boston now, doing double duty, recording new songs with Kara DioGuardi for her sophomore CD.
With the music storyline, this movie project would seem a perfect fit for Charice, though it is with great interest that we wait to see what her part entails. Will she sing on screen or be a movie “extra” as a student in the background? Will she indeed be a student of the music department or fit into the story in some other way as well?
It appears that Charice is likely to have some sort of speaking role since she is credited as an actress in the IMDb.com movie website, although it’s not known how substantial the role will be. The bad news is that the Columbia Pictures movie has been given an initial release date of July 2012, which means a waiting period of about 16 months.
Meanwhile, Charice is expected to return to the screen on “Glee” on April 19, after a series of false dawns. However, credible sources have pointed to “A Night of Neglect” as the episode of her long-awaited return.
