What is it about Charice and standing ovations? At the 8th Annual Woman’s Day Red Dress Awards on February 8, she once again had the audience on their feet.
Charice was invited to perform at this year’s award ceremony, which is organized annually by Woman’s Day magazine to celebrate those who have made major contributions in the fight against heart disease.
And the celebrities who graced the event – which included legendary US broadcaster Barbara Walters and soul singer Cee Lo Green – were suitably wowed. In fact, even before the 18-year-old got on stage, the star-studded audience were excited by the prospect of seeing Charice perform in person.
“I have one question for you: who is better than Charice?” NBC journalist Hoda Kotb said on the red carpet of the teenage diva. “When she sang on “Oprah” that time, I have to tell you, I stood up on my couch and applauded alone in my living room because I thought she sang like an angel.”
The event has become one of the biggest in the New York City charity calendar, with some of the leading women in business, politics and entertainment in attendance. So, no small fry at this show.
As Charice took to the stage, she was greeted on stage to sing Whitney Houston’s “Bodyguard Medley” at the Jazz of Lincoln Center with warm applause, and once again had her audience on their feet at the end.
When she launched into her second number, Gloria Gaynor’s classic anthem “I Will Surivive,” they were dancing in their seats.
But Charice revealed that since her own brother had died from heart disease 15 years ago, the event was always something more significant than another high-profile gig.
“It’s really important (to me) because I want, not only women, but all the people around the world to take care of themselves, their hearts. So I’m really glad that I’m part of this charity event,” she said.

Charice took time out of a hectic Los Angeles schedule to make room to perform at the event. She is rumored to be filming for “Glee,” and is believed to have been recording her new album and preparing for the release of a new single.
She is also in the midst of preparations for her tour of Japan, which opens in Nagoya in just 10 days time.
