Charice Speaks Up in J-14 February Issue

Charice Speaks Up in J-14 February Issue

In a J-14 Magazine feature, Charice has spoken up to reveal her insecurity over her height and her decision to eventually accept it as part of who she is.

J-14 Magazine, which is one of the most popular magazines for teenagers in the US, includes the Filipino singing sensation in a special feature in its February issue titled “Stars’ Secret Struggles,” focusing on teenage insecurities.

In the magazine, Charice admits she was especially conscious of her height when she met Taylor Swift at the 41st Annual Songwriter’s Hall of Fame Award ceremony in June last year. The two also appeared along with Enrique Iglesias and John Legend at the Target Corps National Meeting in Minneapolis in August.

She said that she had been excited about meeting the leading country singer until she discovered how much taller the Pennsylvania-born singer is.

“I met Taylor Swift and I was like, ‘Oh man, I have to do something about my height’,” Charice is quoted as saying. “People tell me, ‘You’re so small in real life.’ I am insecure about my height.”

Charice also admits that she has tried to change her style to compensate for her insecurity and turned to wearing heels for a time before realizing they just weren’t for her. ”Heels just kill me. I can only stand for like an hour,” she says.

There is no secret to the fact that Charice is a major hit with teenagers in the US and around the world. J-14 followers even voted the Filipino diva as the “Icon of Tomorrow” in an online poll in November. So, there can be little doubt that she is a role model for young girls across America.

As one of a number celebrities to speak about their personal insecurities, it’s obvious Charice shares her thoughts in an effort to convince other ‘short’ girls not to worry about their image.

Meanwhile, in the same issue, romantic links between Charice and David Archuleta are again denied. Charice is quoted as saying that her songs are not dedicated to the 2008 American Idol runner-up.

“I dedicate my songs to my friends and family, not to David Archuleta,” she says.

Charice, I never saw a girl so tall like you. Indeed, did you know why? Because i know your life histore and I think to myself that how many girls in the world would give up so easily if just half of the things that happened with you were with they. So I think God sent you here just to show us that miracles are possible . Everytime that you look at the mirror and start to thinking that you are too small, just remember that you is really the biggest inspiration in my life, the best part of my day and the biggest thing I dicovered in these last times. charice you are great !

Charice – You’re amazing just the way you are. Angels need no height requirement. I look up to you ‘cuz you are UP there. I could imagine if you are as tall as Taylor S just maybe I would not feel the same wonder as I feel now. You are what you are and that’s the person we learn to love and admire.

what is more important for me are her intangible possessions…her personality, attitude in life, heavenly voice, etc…things that money cannot buy. i believe her being petite is one of so many god-given gifts as it is an advantage for her – it adds to the amazement…the wow factor – it comes with the package. as many here have been saying, great things comes in small packages; and she’s the one of the best example.

HURRAY for SHORTIES like me :) When I was 18 yrs. old – I was also self-conscious about my height but I realized it is genetics and I could not do anything about it , so I decided to develop my character instead and to have a bigger mind and heart instead.
CHARICE stands heads above shoulders to anyone because of her virtues : HUMILITY, Positive Attitude, Fearlessness, Courage, Perseverance, Kindness, and a BIG HEART that gives and forgives. For this I love and admire Charice – she is an inspiration.

very well said, luvkcha09. Any insecurity we have gives us motivation to do better in every other way we can. And Charice is indeed an inspiration in this regard. For all we know, we were given these (perceived) disadvantages to drive us to make full use of our real talents.

CHARICE you shouldn’t worry about your height. Just remember great things come in small packages and besides, it just so happens that you’re now living in the land of bigger people. Always thank GOD for all the blessings. (…. maybe you can pray that HE make you taller or if not maybe everyone else smaller….except me because i thought of it …also all the Chasters; we should not forget the Chasters….ONLY JOKE!!!…to make you smile)

Charice height isn’t everything. You have more in you that makes your fans love you. To me when a stsr is humble is the most important thing. You are loving, caring, and always thinks of others first. I am a short person too and being kind to others is more important to me. You might be small, but you have a big heart.

Charice, a person’s stature has no bearing on anyone’s success in the music industry. A person’s heart and talent are the driving forces in your success. Your life story reminds me of a singer who came to fame in the 1950-60′s named Brenda Lee. She was nicknamed “Little Miss Dynamite” because of her stature 4’9″. Her powerful voice got everyone’s attention. I recalled at age 16 her “I’m Sorry” charted #1 on the Billboard pop charts in 1960. You are our “Little Miss Dynamite” 50 years later, we all love you just the way you are.

      thx for that info…
Brenda Lee sounds as if she is a big person, as I recall.
Never realized she’s small, a bit shorter than Charice, even.

      And now Charice…
just proves the saying, “Small but Terrible”.

      Charice @ D TOP !!!!!!!!

Ahh yes, Timi Yuro and “Hurt”. She, Brenda Lee and Patsy Cline were the ones I listened to on the 45′s and 33 1/3 records. Now after 50 years of waiting we have another one with the “IT” factor CHARICE.

You love a person whoever she is. Besides, love conquers almost everything. I just hope that all chasters love would not be too rabid because everything must be done in moderate.

All things come in natural way. If you do it the artificial way, it will give you trade-offs in the future.

Charice is a natural gift and she is very unique in many ways.
Agree Chasters? Charice, i’m one of your biggest fan and i love you as my sister and me as your big brother.

i miss the adidas and the nike shoes you’ve been wearing earlier on. You can dance on them unlike in your high heels. In them your movement is very restricted and you might later on develop ankle problems, so discard high heels except when attending formal social gatherings

Charice my sweet little girl, remember the story of David and Goliath,
GOD destined you to overcome the giants in this battle your’re living with. You maybe short in height but GOD fills- in the rest of it, haven’t you notice that? that is what people continue wondering about, Why and How does that possible. A voice so deep, sweet and powerful comes from a tiny little body. A voice such as yours remains still a mystery to me.You maybe short in pictures and in person but my eyes sees a giant amongst them. You are what you are and your name will forever etched in our hearts and for generations to come as simply the ” SWEETEST AND MOST POWERFUL VOICE THAT COMES FROM A SWEET TINY LITTLE GIRL KNOWN AS… CHARICE ” Labyo girl, to the TOP baby.

@Ramski: Well said. This is how I also look at Charice, a female version of King David. I noticed that God likes to use the humble and the most unlikely people (according to human standard only) to show how might He is. When the Italian judge said, “…you are a gift from God!”, all I can say is, “Amen!”

I am happy because you decide to accept your insecurity as part of who you are.No body in this world is perfect.
With our insecurity, it makes us a human, make us not arrogant ,make use respect others for their insecurity.
Just focus to your talent, accept your insecurity, that will make you happy.Insecurity can make world balance, make world complete, can you imagine this world only has day and no night.

Charice: Being petite is not a disavantage when you have a “giant” vocal talent. Besides, wearing high heels may lead to orthopedic problems in the future. So we love you petite lady and wish you to stay healthy.
