“30 Days With Charice” is a documentary by Emmy-award winning director Matthew Mills, cut into four-minute-episodes with new ones released every Wednesday and Friday on Teen.com.
The tenth episode showed us what it‘s like to work with Charice off-stage – and it seems very fun! Still on the road to promote her international debut album, Charice makes a stop in Allentown, Pennsylvania to perform in the Mayfair concert. After doing sound check, she hits the mall with Iyaz for some shopping. We also get to see how close the two have become since working together for the no. 1 hit, “Pyramid”. They may clown around a lot when it’s downtime, but Charice and Iyaz showed Pennsylvania how it’s done with an amazing performance that got the crowd cheering and singing along.
Charice Experiences Some Technical Difficulties
It’s the second to the last episode of “30 Days With Charice”; and from Allentown, Charice heads to Harrisburg for another live performance and an on-air KISS FM interview. It’s Day 28 out of the 30 days with Charice, and after countless concerts and travelling across America and Asia, Charice shows no sign of being tired of all the hard work. No doubt about it, she just loves her job so much.
A road trip is quite incomplete without good music and lots of fooling about – and Charice would never let that happen. The episode starts off with Charice mock-singing the ultimate high note in her song, “Note to God” with Tommy Page, VP of Top 40 Reprise / Warner Bros. Records, on the wheel but still enjoying all the craziness.
First stop is KISS FM for a live on-air interview with Mike Miller. Charice loves doing radio interviews as she “always has so much fun with the DJs”. This one’s no exception with Charice looking all bubbly while answering questions and hamming it up with the camera. After talking about traveling to different countries all over the world, the DJ asks her if she knows where she is right now, which cracks up Charice as she has no idea of the specifics. But Miller doesn’t mind – looks like he’s already been bitten by the Charicemania bug.
“A couple of weeks ago, the record rep came in and said, “I have a song for you”, which is what they all say”, Miller recounts. “And normally as a radio guy, you sit there and say ok and they play the song for you.” He then explains how he just sat and listened to “Pyramid” and immediately said “this is going to be a big hit, this is it”. What amazes him more is that Charice is just 18 years old when she came out with her hit international debut album, “Charice”. She then explains how this is her first-ever pop/RnB album because previously, all she sang were ballads. Miller must have seen something big with Charice as he concludes that Charice is “going to be one of those names that everyone will know at home.”
Hopefully, the rest of Harrisburg will love Charice as much as Miller did, but of course, you can’t reach the top without experiencing some challenges. At the sound check for the Hardware Bar performance, Charice discovers that the stage monitors are not functioning. These are the speakers on stage which help artists hear how they sound despite the loud crowd. But Marc Johnston, Charice’s manager, has all the faith in the world that she would overcome this hurdle. “People would be surprised to know how professional she is…her focus…is pretty incredible for someone of such a young age”, Johnston explains.
No monitors? No problem! Charice did another phenomenal live performance and the crowd definitely loved her. The moment she came out on-stage ‘til her performance of “Pyramid” with Iyaz, the audience continuously cheered and sang with her. And most importantly, Charice had a lot of fun performing as much as her fans did watching her perform live. She summed up the whole experience perfectly in just one word: “epic!”
Charice continues on a non-stop roller coaster ride promoting her album. She makes a quick stop in Pennsylvania to do a radio interview with KISS-FM before she is whisked off to perform at another show. Things don’t go smoothly when Charice is faced with some equipment problems during the sound check, but she doesn’t let the glitch ruin the show for her fans.
