“30 Days With Charice” Episode 3: NYC Interviews

“30 Days With Charice” Episode 3: NYC Interviews

“30 Days With Charice” is a documentary by Emmy-award winning director Matthew Mills, cut into four-minute-episodes with new ones released every Wednesday and Friday on Teen.com.

Previous Episode

The second episode brought us behind the scenes of Charice’s live performance on QVC. It was the day of her debut album release, and in just 30 minutes, her album got huge sales already. The episode began with a sound check that let us saw the way David Foster and Charice worked together. Commentaries from Tommy Page, VP of Top 40 Reprise Records, were interspersed throughout the episode. Backstage, Charice got her makeup and hair done while being interviewed. The live performance went without a hitch, and she sang six songs from her album with David Foster on the piano. Iyaz was also there live to perform with Charice the no. 1 hit, “Pyramid”.

NYC Interviews

A day in the Big Apple for Charice doesn’t mean a stroll at Central Park or climbing to the top of the Empire State Building, it’s all business throughout the day for her – but no worries about her being too stressed out, as she looks like she’s enjoying everything as much as we enjoy watching her do all these.

Our Day 3 with Charice starts with her riding in a car warning us to be ready for a “crazy, busy day” as she has lots of things to do like interviews, photo shoots, shows and radio guestings, but assures us that it’s “going to be fun” complete with an adorable peace sign.

Short clips from different photo shoots are then shown with Charice posing and looking all fierce with her knee-high boots and cute pink and gray outfit. Tommy Page, VP for Top 40 Reprise Records, then says that “what makes Charice a very special and unique artist” is not only her “fantastic and phenomenal voice” but also “the story of who she is” and the way she rose to superstardom.

Charice then take us back to her childhood by telling the story of how her father left their family when she was three years old and how she felt her mother’s pain and their poverty. When she was seven, Charice has already joined almost a hundred singing contests in the Philippines to help provide for her mother and brother. Page then reveals that Charice’s background is part of who she is as an artist and this helps her connect with people not just on the level of music but also in a spiritual way.

Her way to international recognition wasn’t always smooth. It took a fan’s video post in YouTube to get the attention of Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah and David Foster. She also tells us how grateful she is to Oprah for having her five times on her show already and for calling David Foster to help jump-start her singing career on a bigger scale and a higher level. Page then comments on her being Filipino but how her story also reflects that of the American Dream – where an underdog from poverty rises overcomes obstacles through the use of “talent, drive, personality,” and hard work. Charice also reveals how she bought a car and a house for her mother, and how happy she is to help provide for her family. Her story is really touching and telling it to every must have been very emotional for Charice, as it brought tears to her eyes, mine and surely, yours too.

Back to the happy parts, Alex, a friend and a fan of Charice, is amazed how her energy levels don’t drop even after doing quite a number of interviews. In the car, Charice is so excited when Page reveals that on the first full day of her album sales, she is trending at no. 1 on iTunes. She thanks all the Chasters for buying the album, and it shows how much she loves all her fans – she constantly communicates with them online and through Twitter.

Marc Johnston, Charice’s manager, praises her voice and names her “the greatest vocalist out there” right now, and asks us if you could even think of a person who could match her talent and the way she’s showcasing it right now. Me? I can’t think of anyone. Johnston’s statement is proven by a series of goose bump-inducing clips of Charice singing live for the different interviewers a cappella and without any rehearsals. Is there any artist out there who would attempt this and do it flawlessly?

And Charice is no way resting on her laurels; she’s hungry for more and won’t stop ‘til she reaches the top. Tommy Page believes that Charice can do it, I believe too, how about you?

charice life is inspiring. tomy paige is a genius using this “spiritual connection” with charice thru her life. charice is the only singer who made me and millions of fans cry – a very spiritual experience indeed since it digs deep into the core of our being. charice reminds us of our vulnerability and infused us with her strength. her voice soothes our weary soul while recharging us with her indomitable spirit. shes a phenomenon. nobody can explain this with ease. im a philosopher but never found the right metaphysical framework to give structure to my thoughts on this humble and wonderful being – my princess charice.

Enjoyed watching 30 days with Charice even though it’s short we get to see a personal glimpse of Charice private life. The next episode will be the Wango Tango appearance. I can’t never forget that day because OCF told me Charice is walking accompanied by Arz Bayani on her way to KIIS FM stage. We rushed and kind of ambushed her to sign our album and have picture taken with her. Believe me she never refused any request by her fans. How can you not love this young talented woman.

Being compared to a machine doesn’t mean she’s devoid of feelings, but instead she’s compared to a precision machine that performed flawlessly without getting tired despite her hectic schedule. We can learn a lot from Charice work ethic because she always give her best 100% in any type of setting, whether it’s a photo shoot. magazine interview, performing in a big arena or in a studio room.

Yes, I agree with you. To be compared to a “machine’ is a great compliment to one’s professionalism, hard work, and strength. And Charice has all these. These people are promoting Charice and will not say anything to lessen her value. They are investing in her; it’s all positive.

Are you a real Chaster? Have you bought her Mini Christmas album yet? If not, ask yourself again if you are a “Real Chaster”…..

I suggest that you buy extra copies and give them as an early Christmas gift to friends and relatives so that they will also enjoy Charice’s Christmas Songs before the Christmas Season is over.

Folks, for those who may misunderstand the term, “like a machine” is a very positive and complimentary statement. It speaks to her endurance, hard work, and reliability to keep striving to reach her goals.

“Like a machine” has often been used to refer to Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan in professional basketball (why not since cha apparently enjoys playing basketball, too). Good company this Cha keeps.

    HERE WE GO AGAIN !!!

:02 SECONDS, statement by Tommy Page created an issue again, from people who can not recognize a positive comment for Charice, according to “mdsjr”, Tommy Page is a topnotch figure at Warner Bros….why is he getting picked on ?

He is one of the people helping Charice on her stardom, just watch the tape from 3:45 while Charice is doing her demo song, watch Tommy Page facial expression.

Tommy Page is not comparing Charice to an animal or a lazy person, but we dont hear anything from anyone when DAVID FOSTER said that Charice is like a LASER BEAM (another machine), I just wonder sometime why some are unhappy when they make positive comment on Charice….hmmmmmm specially Tommy Page.

Folks this is AMERICA, you can not be “tamad” or laidback if you wish to be on the top, she is so blessed with the people around her helping her career, but yet, some are ungrateful if they make a positive statement…..PEACE

Are you kiddin’ me?!!!! Saying that “Charics is like a Machine” is actually a great compliment. It simply means she’s relentless, untiring and extremely hard working. She doesn’t back down until she achieves what she sets out to do. That’s exactly the same term Freddie Roach when referring to Manny Pacquiao. So those who would think that was in insult is probably an “IGNO SOB”.

I am a fan of Manny Pacquiao. Indeed, I can see a lot of similarities between Charice and Manny. Both packed a wallop of a talent, both stays humble in spite of their global popularity, and both are very hardworking. And before I forget, both are guided by world class mentors — Freddie Roach for Pacquiao, and DF for Charice. I also suspect that Charice has the spirituality of Manny Pacquiao. Her humility is a good sign to me.

So am I a chaster? In the parlance of boxing: “Show me the dotted lines and I will sign in.” Yes, I am a Manny Pacquiao fan, and a Charice fan, too. Both are simply awesome and inspiring! Both are God’s gifts to humanity who badly need it…

The world now owns Charice , not exclusively by the Philippines any longer. However, due to her lifestory, a lot of Filipinos do relate to her past and even present to say that even now that this part of Charice is still wholly owned by Pinoys. Overseas workers sacrificing for family?……talented but unrecognized and/or undervalued?…rags to riches?…humble, religious and graciouss?….Filial and family loving?….relentless pursuit for success and excellence?….Hardworking and resilient?.

Now tell me who in the Philippines could not relate to this? Good thing is that these values are reverberating globally as she becomes more popular as a cross-over superstar diva. The whole world will heal slowly but surely again with the emergence of talented people like Charice but most of all and hopefully so, the Filipinos will get their due respect finally for giving the world a blessing such as Charice.

      Hi madzee and ilovecharice,
Tommy Page, a pop singer, was VP of A&R for WB and now VP of Top 40 Records/WB. Tommy Page accompanied Charice to many interviews, shows and radio guestings so he knows how good our baby is. Warner Bros is investing a lot of money to Charice so guys, don’t worry they will not work her like a horse and later lose her. In the video above, Tommy said it is a big day for her (many interviews, shows and radio stations to visit) and he is not worried. She can handle it. She is a machine. Actually, like a computer which is a machine. Charice can handle all the interviews and answer correctly all questions as she is taught. She can sing without missing a note just like as she rehearsed. A computer always work exactly as it is programmed.
