Born Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco, the young, petite Filipina singer with the powerful voice is now simply known as Charice. After making it to the finals of Little Big Star, an American Idol type show in the Philippines, she was invited to appear on a South Korean talent show called Star King. Soon after, Charice became a YouTube sensation and her fanbase on the infamous video site continues to grow. Thanks to her YouTube success she was noticed by Ellen and invited by the popular talk show host to appear on her show, introducing her for the first time ever to the American audience. They loved her. She soon appeared a few times on The Oprah Winfrey Show. The Queen of Talk was so captivated by her performances that she dubbed Charice “the most talented girl in the world”. David Foster agreed there was something special about the young lady who plays “Sunshine Carazon” on Glee. Mr. Foster is not only Charice’s producer but her godfather as well. Winfrey is her godmother.

Charice became the first Asian to land in the top 10 of the Billboard’s Top 200 and has realized many of her dreams, including singing with her idols, Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. Not bad for someone who was informally trained by their own mother. What’s more is that Charice’s second single, “Pyramid”, from her self-titled international debut album, has landed at number 4 on Yahoo’s 2010 Most Irresistible Lyrics list. Charice is in good company.

Charice has already made history and with the talent this girl has, she will be staying around for a while!
