(LOS ANGELES) Charice wowed the crowd anew after she performed pitch-perfect numbers in various events in LA this past week, convincingly showing the audiences that her talent needs no electronic enhancements. She was also interviewed before the performance, where she shared her experiences as a GLEE cast member, gave out her thoughts about doing more Justin Bieber covers, and discussed her favorite things to do in her spare time.
Citadel Pre-concert Interview
Popstar Magazine interviewed Charice prior to the evening performance. Popstar is the longest-running continuously published teen magazine in the United States. Popstar asked her about her GLEE experience, portraying the role of Sunshine Corazon, a Filipina foreign exchange student in McKinley High. Charice said, “It was (an) amazing experience and definitely, I’m coming back (to the show).” Charice added that the rest of the GLEE cast was very nice and accommodating to her. She said, “I’m the shortest (among all the members of the cast) and they told me that I’m like their baby.” The cast members and the show’s staff would often mess around with her, patting her at the back and saying, “Hey Sunshine,” or, “What’s up Sunshine,” she added. Charice added that people around her in the set would often say, “Hey Sunshine you’re so cute”, referring to her literally small status. Charice stands 4’11” according to most accounts. Asked if she’ll cover more songs of other artists like Justin Bieber, Charice said, “Well, why not? I love these songs. They’re all amazing.” Charice was asked about what she would typically buy when she’s in the malls. She gave out a very simple answer: “A pair of sneakers.” Apparently, Sunshine isn’t shopaholic at all. Asked about what’s the best advice she has ever received, Charice quoted Oprah’s advice by saying, “Always keep your feet on the ground, even if you have nice shoes.” And the interviewer cracked up.

Charice Wows Los Angeles: Citadel Outlets
Charice showed up at the Radio Disney-sponsored Citadel Outlets’ 9th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting show, in front of a capacity crowd, which the organizers estimate to be more than 6,000, beating the record set in her mall show at the Toronto Eaton Centre, earlier this year.
Charice didn’t need any warming up when she started the night by singing her fast-paced dance single, “I Love You”, replete with all the vocal acrobatics that made even the skeptics’ jaws drop.
She followed it up with a medley consisting of Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance”, Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA”, and Michael Jackson’s “Rock with You”. She injected her own style in the said songs which made her performance distinctly her own.
After the medley, the audience requested that she sing a Justin Bieber arrangement. While a majority of the audience requested “Baby”, a few people in the front ask her to sing Bieber’s “U Smile”.
Charice chose the latter, but told the audience that she doesn’t have a backing tape for the song.
The audience was about to be disappointed and then she said, “Is it okay if I sing it a capella?”
Charice sang “U Smile” without cheating any note or lyric, without using any accompaniment, and then the predominantly teenage audience went wild.
After that quick impromptu session, Charice sang a new arrangement of the holiday classic “Jingle Bell Rock”. She gave new life to the song by varying or extending the notes, which pleasantly surprised the audience.
Even those who were still unfamiliar with Charice, GLEE’s Sunshine Corazon, can’t help but be impressed that such an angelic voice can come from such a tiny frame.
Charice topped it all off with her Billboard hit single, “Pyramid”, while the fans sang along.
Charice Wows Los Angeles: The Grove
Charice took not a single day off when she showed up the next evening in another Christmas Tree Lighting event at The Grove LA, hosted by current EXTRA news anchor, Mario Lopez.
The Grove is known throughout the country as a
hugely popular L.A. shopping and celebrity hot spot. In the November 21 event, Hollywood celebrities were also present in the audience, including the Terminator, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Charice had a duet with American Idol Runner-up David Archuleta, singing another holiday classic, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
Charice did not get intimidated as she thrilled the audiences with her deep and booming voice, which elicited more than just a few smiles, which included those of the professional band members on stage.
Many fans noticed that Archuleta was pitchy in some parts of the song. However, people forgave the young artist, as he was very exhausted that day, fresh from a 15-hour flight from Manila to LA, where he promoted his latest album, “The Other Side of Down.”
