I have a feeling Charice did not attend the Operation Smile gala out of respect and friendship to her Glee Cast members who performed. Charice almost always gets the accolade from the audience because of her amazing powerful voice and she did not want to steal the show from her Glee friends. In her official japanese blog she stated the day before the gala that she would attend, and as an official ambassador there is no way she can just say no without a really good reason, IE force majore.

The praises, accolades, and raves keep on pouring like the rains during the monsoon season in the Philippines. That being said, Charice is set to perform at the Smile gala tomorrow, Sept. 24. It remains to be seen whether as a solo act being the Youth Ambassador of Operation Smile or as a part of the Glee cast. Either way, her performance will surely bring more cheers and will reinforce her undeniable destiny to super stardom.
To the fellow Chasters and to her fans around the world: Charice has given us SO MUCH HAPPINESS that I find it very difficult to find more words to express our feelings about her. It is about time that we show our gratitude aside from the cheers and accolades we are bestowing upon her by supporting her through OPERATION SMILE. Last year, through Charice efforts, Operation Smile won $20,000 in the “Regift the Fruitcake” campaign. Her modest goal of raising $5,000 was surpassed by raising over $11,000 through the efforts of the Chasters and her other fans. That amount translated to bringing smiles to 83 children.
This year, there are tens of thousands more Chasters basking in the glory of our princess that surpassing that amount is almost a no-brainer. Lots of chasters were putting in duplicate comments cuz our pages have been so slow with Charice’s Glee premiere bringing CM to a halt when it CRASHED lol. We experienced a “sudden 516% spike on charicemania” according to one report at tv.yahoo.com The server has now been upgraded to accommodate up to 3,000 users at one time

Last Friday, Charice was confirmed to be performing at the Smile Gala in her own right as an OS Youth Ambassador, and not with the Glee cast. This seems appropriate since the first episode is about “Auditions” and she hasn’t yet joined ‘New Directions’ as a member (if at all – there may be a twist to the story which I won’t reveal if you don’t know it yet). But who knows? Perhaps the cast will find a way to include her with their own performance.
I do think it’s special that Charice is being recognized as a solo artist at the event rather than performing with other cast members which would mean one or two lead singers and the rest as backup dancers/vocals. As the new kid on the block, Charice definitely would not be the lead. As a Smile Ambassador solo performer, however, she has the opportunity to shine like the star that she is. Hope she rocks the house like she did last year!
