Charice: It Ain’t Really What It Seems

Charice: It Ain’t Really What It Seems

I’m continuously horrified by watching the career progression of a prodigiously talented singer from the Philippines trying to ascend through the ranks of the Secular Corporate American Music System.

Let’s call it SCAMS for short.

Charice Pempengco is the real-deal and everyone who knows her story, including the Ultimate Fairy Godmother Oprah Winfrey, wants this girl to win. Raised by a single mother who abandoned their abusive father which doomed them to the slums of the Philippines as a result, Charice and Her Voice entered singing contests starting at the crazy young age of seven (read: Michael Jackson) to help support her family.

It is not hyperbole to say this small child had the vocal ability of Whitney Houston and Celine Dion as adults, before she was even ten years old. By stroke of luck or fate or both, one of the more than 100 talent contests she entered in her homeland was filmed, and a year later a video of her singing “I Will Always Love You” with unbelievable vocal power hit Youtube. A producer at Oprah Winfrey saw it and Charice was promptly “rescued”– whisked to Chicago and onto the Oprah show with a title bestowed by her Fairy Godmother as “The Most Talented Girl In The World.”

Charice subsequently wowed the world through Oprah, met her idol Celine, and got a record deal with Celine’s one-time producer David Foster – someone with a gigantic track record in the past but who hasn’t had a #1 contemporary (read: young) POP hit in over a decade. But he could immediately secure Charice an arranged marriage with Warner Brothers/Reprise through his imprint distributed by the corporate behemoth, called 143 Records. The SCAMS still think you actually need a record deal to become a legitimate recording star. Meanwhile, she had already broken worldwide from the internet and TV.

How can the Pempengco family possibly navigate through our matrix? There’s been many others before them, the story as old as Hollywood itself: what’s yo’ dream? Charice and her mom were happy to be out of the ghetto and on the road to hers. There is no assigning blame for those humble desires.

And so it was. Crusty Foster of all people, whose production consistently appeals to the 40+ demo, emerges as the sudden Svengali to a ridiculously talented 16 year-old girl. His most recent proteges are Josh Groban and Michael Buble. While both are credible and successful, they aren’t relevant to pop radio at all– we’re talkin’ straight grandpa jams.

Like it or not, Charice’s peers and main chart competitors are kids her age, hello— Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus. Except she has more raw talent than the both of them, the Jonas Brothers and damn near every Idol to hit the stage rolled together into one boring Seacrest recap. This is not up for argument from anyone with ears.

It is such a missed opportunity for the whole music business, one collapsing and needing to figure out every single way they can develop authentic talent that will grow alongside a 70-million-strong Millennium Generation, it makes me want to scream.

The reality is: if you don’t have a hit song it doesn’t matter how well you sing.

But the few who have that incredible gift, with once-in-a-lifetime uniqueness (demonstrated by her heritage alone) are the artists who change EVERYTHING.

That is why Charice Pempengco is so important.

Showbiz is who ya know, kids. David Foster is a close friend of Oprah’s and I believe the ONLY person in the music industry she dare interact with besides Russell Simmons, who doesn’t deal with people who actually sing, and hasn’t had an active role in the business since selling his Def Jam label in the mid 90’s. Applying this to the Pempengco scenario that’s called “Winning By Default”.

Charice performs with David Foster

And so away Charice went. Into the studio to record her “American Debut” album. It was promptly released about a year later in May of 2010, to little fanfare. The same month she went back on Oprah’s show and performed one of the songs from that album called “Note To God,” written by pop powerhouse Diane Warren. But in a truly mystifying move, Warner Brothers/Reprise Records decided to release an entirely different song to radio– called “Pyramid”– which had a whopping three-week airplay life at the contemporary pop/rhythm formats. The main reason given by radio programmers for the song’s failure and lack of connection to the coveted 12-24 music demo? The song just sounded too adult next to…..hit music by peers Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.

But what has happened since, is a fascinating mix of amazing and absurd.

More than anything it seems to be slowly morphing into a truly sad metaphor for how twisted up our values are in this country and how unbelievably disconnected they are, especially when we impose them on innocent people.

The most heart-wrenching part of this tale could potentially be the defining moment for Charice. At the end of June with her “Pyramid” single now off the charts and her debut album/aka dream languishing in obscurity, it was announced that Charice was added as a cast member to the smash hit television show Glee. No question this is a phenomenal, career-saving break for her.

Yet instead of embracing what will be her mark of greatness — Pinoy Power — she is already being taught to alter what makes her special. In a bombshell interview distributed by the Associated Press, this not-yet-media-savvy girl innocently reveals that in preparation for her television role she is getting cosmetic procedures to “look fresh on camera”. She is just 18.

Apparently this includes “non-invasive” procedures like Botox and Thermage to “make her naturally round face more narrow,” according to her plastic surgeon.

There is only one message this sends to impressionable young people, to a whole generation that is already overwhelmingly ethnic, of mixed heritages too like black and white, white and hispanic, black and asian, and an endless combination from there: Ethnic Is Ugly. Nothing could be further from the truth, yet here we have the most transparent example of it. A prodigiously talented Asian girl being told how to compete with another insanely talented Italian/Spanish girl for the biggest hit television show in America……WTH.

There is no other appropriate response except to put it all on BLAST.

“All people will be anticipating, ‘How will Charice look?” she says in the same interview, “is she good enough to pit against (Glee character) Rachel Berry? So of course there is tremendous pressure.”

Not one time does Charice mention her voice, her talent, her spirit and energy, and how THAT will pit so beautifully against Lea Michele’s (who plays Rachel Berry on Glee) amazing voice, talent, spirit and energy. These are things that can’t be altered, the marks of a True Star, the qualities that REALLY MATTER.

It is because of those intangibles that the stars are able to jump off the screen. Somebody tell Charice it ain’t really what it seems….

It’s even BETTER than it seems!! Charice is taking over the world. If it took the U.S. to wake up the Philippines to Charice’s talent, maybe it’ll take ASIA to wake up the U.S. to Charice’s talent. Not that we don’t recognize it, but it’s a lot harder in the U.S. with the playing field being so competitive. Charice’s CD is doing so well abroad on charts in Japan, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, Philippines, France, Brazil. They love her there!

In other news, Charice may be appearing at Macy’s Back to School event in New York, August 15th, Macy’s Herald Square. We’d love New York chasters to go all out promoting the event and getting THOUSANDS of chasters to be there! This is your challenge to beat Toronto and Siam Discovery. E-mail your local papers about it, esp. Filipino and neighborhood publications, get the word out, they love to post news like that. This is still unofficial. We’ll be posting info as soon as it is confirmed some time next week.

Welcome back to California Charice! I wish I could see you at the Grammy Block Party. I’m sure you’ll bring down the house. Maybe sing your HALO version… all those Recording Academy members are gonna get blown away! haha

    now you see.

Charice makes a small misstep and the media, the journalists and bloggers (journalists need to write to make money and bloggers need to be read to get validated), who were always on the wing ready to pounce, go on a feeding frenzy.

no worse than a tattoo, in my opinion. it’s the sideshow that made it worse.

she’s 18. and very impressionable. goes with the territory. And even on this site, where the average age of visitors is (an educated guess) 35-45, and average education is I would say, college level, the only thing they want you to do is sing her high praises and reiterate her lofty talent (which is redundant because David Foster, Oprah and Lea Salonga among others have already etched that in stone) and not give advice that goes against the grain, even if an 18 year old could use it.

and that’s exactly what someone in the philippines did. Someone she trusted implicitly. Told her how wonderful, and talented she was. Almost perfect. Almost. Just a little nagging imperfection. And then turned around and stabbed her. Literally and figuratively . And you, as the rest of the world, know where.

Oprah, come to the Philippines, please. And slap the sh*t out of Belo.

Charice needs a Manila manager with enough spine to stand up and say NO even to her or her mom if she deemed necessary. And they need to put Belo where she can do less damage to anyone. Like in jail. And throw away the key.

Charice is under the microscope now and everything she does is magnified; when she drops a pebble in the water, the ripples are magnified a thousand-fold. And everyone gets wet. Every filipino for that matter. And that’s a lot of load for an 18 year old to bear. Not everyone understands the pressure that comes with the tacit but very real responsibility. I don’t blame her for looking for guidance. Unfortunately, this one time, she found it in the wrong places.

This is the second Glee misstep and the show hasn’t even began yet. But she’s only 18 and her talent is more than enough to get her through. Eighteen.A blessing ,not a malediction. What a lot of people would give to be 18 again.

As for me, if you ask me (OK you’re not going to ask but I’ll tell you anyway) I’m not so much a fan of the singer as I am of the young girl who, all things considered, in such a short period of time, went through so much life-changing events, endured a roller -coaster physical and emotional ride at an incredible speed and handled everything , so far, with rectitude and aplomb.

the sound you hear, is the sound of journalists and bloggers scrambling on to their next carrion meal.

I agree with almost everything you said but I think it’s more of an unfortunate mistake on Charice’s part to see Belo rather than a stupid decision. The mistake is that Charice completely trusted her Ninang and who wouldn’t? given the circumstances. Try to put yourself in the same situation, being an 18 year old. You cannot expect her to have the foresight of a wise and seasoned adult two, three times her age. Even Marc, her manager, was there with her. He could have objected to the Botox treatment but did not. Perhaps, not understanding Tagalog, he couldn’t figure out exactly what going on, and by the time it was over, the media had already gotten their scoop.

I’m also afraid of the Botox label and it is something Charice will probably have to live for a very long time but like I said, it’s an unfortunate mistake. She just have to charge that to experience.

I thought the Botox issue has been closed. So for all of you who are still crushed, disheartened, mad, disappointed, confused, etc., etc., about the supposedly Cha’s use of Botox as a cosmetic enhancement to her face-here is the real fact about it(as explained by her Doctor and handlers).

      1. The Botox was for a medical treatment-to relax the muscles around her jaws which have tightened due to her habit of constant chewing on gums.Cha was said to be complaining of some pain around that area. Botox is now the favorite medical procedure to relieve and relax tightened muscle in the facial area, It is also used to treat crosseyes and spasms in the eyelid muscles. So, it was not used (as most of us suspected), for cosmetic enhancement-such as to make your lips full or to eradicate wrinkles.

Now that you know the real score about this issue-LETS DROP THIS TOPIC TO THE OBLIVION BOX AND MOVE ON—–OK Chasters?????

The real score is – I will not get upset whatever Cha does that will only make her happy. As a fan and supporter, any trivial matter such as the B treatment will never affect me. I have no right to criticize her action regarding that B matter. My job (as a fan), is to provide support and encouragement so she can keep going to the top.Make sure that she will never get involved on activities or vices that can harm her physical well-being!!!!!

I’d like to laugh it off and forget about it like most of Cha’s fans, but she and her team need to put this to rest at the right time, otherwise it will follow her around. I’d be shocked and horrified if they don’t hold a news conference or address it in some widely publicized manner and explain once and for all what that botox procedure was all about. If it was ill advised on Cha’s or the Team’s part, an apology…whatever will put this behind Cha.

I really think they need to throw Belo under the bus (figuratively, not for real, folks). She was the “adult” and medical “professional” in this picture. From what I’ve seen she has been neither. If she really cared about Cha, as her godmother, or even a responsible and honorable person, she should admit she was selfish and blinded by her misguided opportunity at more cheap publicity.

Her album has slipped off the charts so fast, and a good music video can do more than 100 radio dj appearances because when the video is hit; the radio station requests will flow…

I hope this is the right place to post this. So please bear with me.

LMAO! I really enjoyed reading all these comments and I’m amazed at how such a controversial issue brings out the talents in the chaster family. At the onset of this, as it first came out on youtube, I was more than ready to react and pick up my sword and start lashing out with my two cents worth of unbridled, opinionated and biased stand. But something in my heart told me to wait. Fortunately, I heeded. I realized how seriously precarious the situation was, because Charice’s PR manager, Liz R, swung into action and was immediately on the scene using the tools and tricks of the trade, earning her keep.

Cha is a friend of mine on FB, as most of you are, I suppose. And a day after this fire started, Cha wrote a three word comment on her FB page which simply read, “COME ON PEOPLE”. Immediately, I saw a little girl playing outside in the yard with her friends, and all of a sudden, her friends didn’t want to play with her anymore and turned their backs on her. And with tears on her face, she pleaded with them, not knowing how to explain herself but apologizing for whatever (even she herself didn’t know what she did wrong) she may have done.

So many things happen in our lives that make us do things which, at the moment, seem to be the best or the right thing to do. But often, we are misunderstood, judged and worse, condemned. It is such a bitter and unfair reality of life that we have to live and deal with. But there is no doubt in my mind and heart that Charice will get over this and even turn the situation around for her advantage. My concern is the pain and tears that we, the people whom Charice loves and works so hard to please, are so quick to join the fiasco, making things worse by contributing our “authoritative” opinions and judgments without giving Charice the benefit of the doubt. It broke my heart to see that simple plea of Charice, “COME ON PEOPLE”.

After that short reflection, I chose to reply to Cha’s post with a simple assurance that I still love her, I’m still around, and I’m still her friend and still willing to play with her. I chose to continue to promote her the best way I can to friends, old and new, young and not so young, during my work or my off hours and be more conscious of the result of my blabbering out my opinions without careful consideration to its effects, ultimately to the person I love, Charice.

Thank you AlexG. I just really wish that we chasters would exercise a lot more prudence and control of our attitudes and reactions to all these (seemingly)”controversial” things happening in Charice’s life. We may have all the best of intentions and be more knowledgable in some matters, but by reacting and unleasing all this good intention and seemingly more knowledgable opinions, we may only be addressing the superficial issues of what we see but actually exacerbate the whole situation and cause more difficult and maybe damaging effects on Charice’s wlefare in the long run. And the worst thing for me I believe, is hurting Charice over something that shouldn’t have been a big deal in the first place. I’ll bet we chasters are the ones guilty of fueling the fire.

Be that as it may, I hope we have the maturity and sincerity to make it up for Charice in whatever way we can and be more conscientious of what we say and do regarding Charice and these “controversial” (if there are any more in the future) issues. It may be best to trust Charice’s management team and her handlers, of whom I don’t doubt, Ms. O is really on top of or at least has a major say with regards to Charice. That alone gives me the confidence in her international team and it is obvious that the international team is in control of even the domestic (PI) area as well. I believe they are capable of handling these matters best.

So lighten up people, and quit it already. Cha doesn’t need anymore of this. We know very well what she needs now. Peace.

@ M, yes, the author definitely underestimates Charice’s talent when she says Glee is a career-saving break, but it’s also pretty obvious that she recognizes Charice is a world class talent as well. There are some great quotes in the article:

    “Charice is the real deal”
“It is not hyperbole to say this small child had the vocal ability of Whitney Houston and Celine Dion as adults, before she was even ten years old.”
“she has more raw talent than Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and darn near every [American] Idol to hit the stage rolled together into one. This is not up for argument from anyone with ears.”
“the few who have that incredible gift, with once-in-a-lifetime uniqueness (demonstrated by her heritage alone) are the artists who change EVERYTHING. That is why Charice Pempengco is so important.”

Overall I think it’s a good article for all the positive recognition of Charice’s talent, just the conclusions are all wrong. The author tends a bit toward pessimism although I believe she’s a big fan. I also believe that some day Charice will be a household name around the world, just as the ClevverTV video predicted. DF also predicts and thousands of us agree that Charice is a force to be reckoned with. The rest of the world will just have to catch up to us as Glee Season2 progresses and they begin to fully realize just how powerful this pint-sized, proud filipina really is. She’s gonna impact the music business around the world and it’ll be a long time coming, if ever, that we ever see another singer of her caliber, talent and personal character. There’s only one CHARICE.

Hi Eve…seems like you contradict yourself. The quotes you enumerated shows how the author feels about her talents. To me, that’s not under-estimating her talents. Perhaps you mean to say that Charice has the resilience and perseverance to overcome any obstacle, as she has done in the past. I agree with the author that talent alone is not enough to have a “successful career”. I am sure there are many aritists who sell 100K copies or less of each of their albums. But like the author, my measure of success for Charice is that of Whitney, Celine, Mariah, Beyonce, Christina and of course MJ — and that’s a tall order in today’s market. If you look at their history, they were promoted with a wholesome, clean-cut, loveable image when they first started. Even the young singers, not as talented as Charice, always try to project their postive image, like Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus. This news of Charice using botox and her baptism with 50 plus godparents…only a handful teenagers could comprehend that kind of world; these decisions do not convey a positive image and most would find her actions pretentious or self-indulgent. Over time, I am sure Charice will overcome these mistakes by her and/or team but it would make it doubly harder and longer to achieve that success if she continues to to fumble along the way with insensitive mistkaes like this botox issue.

The author is just expressing an opinion which I happen to disagree with as well. With or without Glee, Charice will make it and will make it BIG. It may be a bit slower than others (e.g. Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, etc.) but surely she will. Remember, Charice as an Asian international artist is now on uncharted territory – a career achievement where no Asian has ever, in times past, gone before. This is like Magellan reaching the famed Spice Islands of the East Indies or Lewis and Clark’s epic journey to the far west. Her challenges in breaking into a market based on century’s old established stereotypes of “successful” artists is a lot harder but in doing so she is in fact redefining those very stereotypes – making it easier for others like her to follow.

One thing that’s totally awesome with Charice is that here you have a little girl barely 5 feet tall, who came from nowhere, almost out of nothing in abject poverty, and now engaged in a titanic battle for recognition and appreciation she absolutely deserves. I have not witnessed a struggle of this size and scale since Bobby Fischer, the great chessman, single-handedly brought the whole Soviet chess machine to its knees. And like Bobby, who was also raised by a single mother, Charice is pure genius armed with unrelenting determination to succeed. But unlike Bobby, whose whole life revolved around chess, which sadly consumed to him to insanity until his death, Charice is a more multi-faceted human being, levelheaded, full of goodness, loving and loved by so many. She’s got everything there working for her – and not to mention the powerful forces (earthly or divine) working behind the scenes to her aid when needed.

And lastly, if there’s any truth to the old American saying “when money talks, all BS walks” just look at how much Charice’s net worth is compared to Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. She’s worth more than each one of them. This means that the size of her contract is one big vote of confidence and positive appraisal of her true potential and worth as an artist.

This Botox hullabaloo is just one of the storms, cyclones, earth quakes she has to get pass through to reach her destination. Will she make it? I’m confident she will, but then again only time will tell. And in case she doesn’t, I do not think she would have failed at all. Failure is in those people who failed to see what she truly is.

You are presuming that this incident was planned by her handlers? I doubt it? Charice will be famous because of her talent and she will remain famous because of her awesome voice, not this small incident that was blown out of proportion by media.

We did’nt hear any statements from Marc, David & Oprah (regarding the matter)-did’nt we??? There’s is an old adage that says “silence is golden”, and to me the no-comment positions from her most important handlers reinforced my belief that they really like the big publicity (as created by the incident), more as a boost rather than as a hindrance to Cha’s budding career.

I disagree. I think her handlers were blindsided by the issue. This was not planned. People say that publicity whether good or bad is still publicity. True. But this is not just bad, this is way too negative a publicity. Charice based on her wholesomeness is a role model for adults and teeners alike. Enough said.
If I read Oprah and her handlers right (am not pretending to be an expert, just based on gut feeling and what has been happening for the last 3 years for Charice), they are preparing for the best platform with which to address this brouhaha. Maybe a forthcoming Oprah show about this?

Could not agree with you more Ciz. To prove how deep a hole is , cast a stone and wait till it reach the bottom. In Charice case its not even halfway yet, wait till she comes back to the US. Personally I would have done the same management move propaganda wise rather than a sex scandal maybe, haha ,joke. Love you Charice, to the top ! ………..

I am frustrated by the well-intentioned Chasters who believe that everything is black-and-white: either (1) you unquestioningly support anything & everything that Charice & her advisers say or do or (2) you are a “hater” & a “crab.” The world rarely is this simple; it exists in shades of gray. So it is, I believe, with this issue of Botox and Thermage. One can love Charice with all her heart and still disapprove of the Botox treatment. It does not mean she is any less a Chaster.

It is often said that hindsight is 20:20 and this is certainly the case here. The situation wasn’t helped by the conflicting explanations about why the procedures were done: (1) to relieve jaw pain & get rid of pimples, (2) “to get it (protruding jaw muscle from chewing gum) flat so she will have a cuter face” (Dr. Belo), (3) “to make her ‘naturally round face’ more narrow” (Dr. Belo), (4) “how will Charice look? Is she good enough to pit against Rachel Berry?” (Charice) and (5) “absolutely not cosmetic” (Liz Rosenberg).

IMHO, it would have been best for everyone to get their stories straight at the outset; describe the reasons as in (1); not broadcast the procedure as it is performed (although I can understand the reason for doing so: “I have nothing to hide”); muzzle Dr. Belo; and refer any additional questions to a single source.

Of course, it’s just fine to say “It’s none of my business” or “I trust the good judgment of Charice & her advisers.” My point is simply this: one can express an opinion, even a critical one, and still be a loyal Chaster — as long as it comes from the heart & is motivated by a desire to help Charice.

@mingsfan……alleluia to you my friend. You seem to be the only few who looks at the situation as objectively as possible. While your post restated the different explanations, I feel you did not go far enough in questioning the motive of each person and answering this question…who has the most credibility? Is it the doctor who has lots to gain if people accept her explanation? I believe the doctor wanted to promote her practice by putting Charice on the spot to agree to the botox procedure. I find the doctor the least credible. Do you accept explanation of Liz, whose job is to promote Charice, including spin control of negative publicity? Think not; besides she was not there. Lastly, the Charice explanation. She is barely an adult, more like a child in honesty. If the original plan is for a facial only, then her explanation to freshen up her face is indeed believable or reasonable. I don’t see how she could judge that a botox procedure would freshen her up. But since she offered that explanation after, not before, the procedures, the botox became the main focus, though she might still be referring only to the facial treatment.

According to the dictionary… a FAN is a SUPPORTER.

CHARICEMANIA is a FANSITE of CHARICE.

Her album reached the number 8 in the US BILLBOARD and “PYRAMID” remix reached number 1 because of her FANS & SUPPORTERS in the US.

Charice’s album also peaked at number 4 in Canada because of Canadian fans.

Her album in Japan is now also number 1 because of Japanese fans.

Charice CDs and album is also almost always in the top 10 of ITUNES & AMAZON because of her global fans.

So Charice does not owe her fame and success to NON-FANS & NON-SUPPORTERS who are always making non-supportive comments in her fan site. Now you know who you are and what is your contribution to Charice’s hard work, talent and perseverance.

  18. well,a lot of things have been said already regarding this botox thing.i may say mostly its nagative and i understand why? its not because she used the botox but because she was too young to use it.and also in the manner of how she said it like she needed it in preparation for glee.if she just said that this is mainly for medical purposes only this would have been a non issue already.the damage is already done so i guess the best thing for her to do right now is to come forward and tell everyone exactly what really happend.unless, she answered all the question that everyone needs to know this thing will not come to an end. questions like the ff: 1) is her management been consulted of this procedure that is to be done to her ? 2)whose idea really is this her , vb or her management team? 3) does her mom knew about it? did she authorized vb to video tape the procedure and make it public? these are just some of the many questions that needs to be answered. CHARICE its your decision; face it or run from it .

@M yes i definitely agree with u. I noticed that too. It is really so unfortunate that there are also blogs and news coming from the Phil that ride on the bandwagon just so they could attract traffic to their sites. Like this Lea Arnaldo who blogs in the Business Mirror. She’s so disgusting. And even here in CM site. Some of the writers comment as if they’re also perfect. I don’t think they’re real Chasters.

It’s just so exasperating that even some Pinoys bash her so unfairly. Gosh! these bloggers and so-called journalists don’t even get their information straight. But well that’s how they make money. Imagine they’d say cosmetic surgery? Wow! they’re so intelligent. Shouldn’t they research the meaning of the word first before they even use it? GMA is even proud that their video is being used by other sites abroad. See? they just watch for a slip and that’s what they’ve been waiting for. Disgusting that’s what they are.

Idolize her for her talent, work ethics, hardworking etc. But what she does with her body is no longer anyone’s business. Isn’t it unfair to put the responsibility on her? Besides, you are diminishing the intelligence of the young people in the Philippines. The responsibility should be on the parents and the kids themselves.

Why didn’t anyone stepped in when she was falling asleep in class because she was out all night working? Now, she’s a role model.

To those of you who are perfect, let the stoning begin.

Be right back i’ll go out and look for the best stone.

@gemma: As a mere observer, the easiest thing in the world to do is second-guess another person’s actions and pass judgement on his/her choices. Unless we walk in Charice’s shoes, we will never understand how she feels nor guarantee that we will make the best life decisions. To tell you the truth, I won’t last a mile in her shoes, and I’m made of sturdy stuff. I think she has been reprimanded enough by some of her fans and even ridiculed enough to last 2 lifetimes. This is not the time to further admonish her or her fans. What Charice needs now, more than anything else, is to know that there people out there who love and support her unconditionally.

      @gemma

There will always be holdouts and haters. There will always be a group who’ll high five a controversial issue revolving around the object of their hatred or envy. With glee (pun intended), there are the self-congratulatory comments, “You see?”, “I told you so!”, “Good for her!”

I lean more towards Charice having been exploited by a godparent, who supposedly is a stand-in as a second parent. Belo dropped the ball.

Charice is young; she still has a lot to learn, and I have to say, I think she has handled herself pretty well–a whole lot better than most of us. Miles ahead of us. To her detractors, ease up, cut her some slack.

As far as other nationalities comments, i.e., “[Charice] thinking along the lines of vanity, [vacous], and shallow,” that must describe a significant population of young teens in the US who have cosmetic enhancements on their 16th birthday–just because.

And by the way, writing in all caps does not alter the meaning of the words written. Also, I’m not saying it’s you because you could have been paraphrasing the comments as written, “vacous” is misspelled. It should be “vacuous”–with a “u”. If using big $5 dollar words, get it right, in spelling and context. Otherwise, the poster will not only look pompous but fatuous, not to mention ridiculous–to use these words in a fan forum.

Like Charice said, the more people will try to bring her down….it will only strengthen her more. I know that David Foster is genuinely cares for Charice, after all he is Charice Godfather.
God has truly Blessing Charice for having such wonderful people like Oprah and David and especially her Mother, they will make sure to keep Charice away from all the envious people.

My family love Charice… we saw her at David Foster Concert and the rest is history. We can’t wait to see her on “Glee”.
God Bless you Always Charice. God Knows your heart…stay sweet and humble.

HEY GUYS, I LOVE CHARICEMANIA & I LOVE CHARICE BUT I THINK EVERYBODY IS GOING BANANAS ABOUT THIS CHARICE’S BOTOX THING…RELAX EVERYBODY…CALM DOWN :) …IT IS CALLED SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT…IT COMES WITH BEING FAMOUS, WHEN YOU’RE UNDER CONTRACT,YOU HAVE TO COMPLY WHAT IS BEING STATED IN THE CONTRACT. IT’S PART OF IT. JUST LIKE HOW HOLLYWOOD (WELL KNOW) ARTISTS, IF THE SCRIPT SAYS YOU HAVE TO BE SKINNY OR YOU HAVE TO BE THIS FAT,THEY HAVE TO DO IT FOR THE PART. IT DOESN’T MAKE YOU LESS OF A PERSON… OK GUYS ????
SO, BREATHE…NOTHING’S GONNA HAPPEND TO CHARICE, SHE JUST HAD TO HAVE SOME SLIGHT IMPROVEMENST & THIS ONE HAPPENS TO BE GETTING BOTOX IN HER FACE TO IMPROVE HER APPEARANCE IN THE SAID ROLE THAT SHE’LL BE DOING. WE ALL KNOW THAT CHARICE IS BEAUTIFUL & WE ALSO KNOW THAT CHARICE IS COMFORTABLE IN HER OWN SKIN,SHE IS PROUD OF WHO OR WHAT SHE IS. SO I DON’T THINK SHE WOULD DO BOTOX IN A REGULAR BASIS JUST BECAUSE SHE FEELS LIKE IT…ALRIGHT GUYS ??? ENOUGH ALREADY WITH THIS NON SENSE BOTOX THING. LET’S NOT FORGET THAT CHARICE IS ALSO BEING LOVE SO MUCH BY HER MOM SO SHE WOULDN’T MAKING DECISIONS TO HURT CHARICE,THAT’S HER BABY GIRL RIGHT THERE.
