At first glance, newly minted star Charice looks like a regular teenager: a pretty little girl, full of energy. But once she opens her mouth, “regular” is the last thing on your mind, and you fall in love with this girl.
Barely 18 years old, she has U.S., Canada and her native Philippines already on their knees with her stunning voice. After being discovered on YouTube, where her videos have been viewed millions of times, she made her debut on the Ellen Degeneres show and talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, where she caused a sensation.

Last week her first single Pyramid went into promotion in the Netherlands. On this single, she collaborates with Iyaz, who we know from his hits Replay and Solo.
Her international debut album “Charice” will be available at the end of September and was produced by none other than “Hit Man” David Foster. David has also produced the debut albums of Michael Bublé and Josh Groban, two stars who transcend the contemporary pop world and are here to stay. The bond between the two has grown so strong that Charice has asked David to be her godfather.
Charice Pempengco was born in Laguna, Philippines, and was raised by her single mother. She began singing when she was four years old and participated in several competitions to support herself and her mother. She played herself in the spotlight over the Internet and appeared on major U.S. TV shows which led to her breakthrough. Besides singing, Charice also acts: she played a role in the movie Alvin and the Chipmunks Part 2.

Charice was first introduced to the Netherlands way back in June, 2008, when she was invited to sing at the 100th anniversary of Feyenoord Rotterdam, a soccer club from the Netherlands, after they had seen a video of her singing their theme song “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” The original video of that amazing Feyenoord theme song performance garnered over 330,000 hits before it was removed, which had very clear sound of the huge 100,000 strong crowd singing along with her!

Thank you so much for reminding me ArrVee. I added the videos to the article. Charice’s composure on the stage at 16 years old before such a huge crowd was simply amazing. In fact, I think she might even be more relaxed then, before all the fame and scrutiny, confidently performing on stage as you can clearly see in the second video. It calls to mind her Star King performance. I just love that girl.
