Part One: An ordinary Chaster’s journey to a seat next to the Director’s chair!
My goodness the music video makers start work early! About 6:00 a.m. I started my walk up the alley behind the Orpheum Theatre, in downtown Los Angeles, the “City of Angels”. In the distance I could see that delivery trucks were already being unloaded. Large wind generators were being rustled across the alley. A security staffer casually watched me approach and seemed unconcerned. Maybe it was the black leather manbag I was carrying my camera gear in that suggested I might have a role to play with the production of Charice’s Pyramid Music Video? I witnessed several workers shuttling between their trucks and the theater, some carrying armloads of cables into the theater, while others wheeled large lockers. I remembered Chasters’ speculations that Charice’s Pyramid Music Video would have an Egyptian theme. Chasters on YouTube commented on Charice’s “Unofficial Pyramid Music Video”, wondering outloud if perhaps Charice would be dressed as Cleopatra, or Iyaz as another Pharaoh? Hmmmmm, I wondered what stage props I might spy as I got closer? What was that peculiar looking prop setting in the lot? It looked like an arched Egyptian harp! Could their speculations be accurate?
Slowly proceeding up the freshly washed alley, additional secrets within the music video makers’ trucks were indiscernible to this lolo’s poor eyes. The chill in the morning air suddenly seemed to amplify the crackling of radio communications. My attention was redirected toward the many workers who were now calling for reinforcements. Their mission to lift a large wind generator up the theater’s back steps had not succeeded. Team members discussed options and the order for a mechanical lift was quickly dispatched. The airwaves were resonating with a sense of well managed urgency that would be maintained throughout the day.
I approached a very large, and looking in charge, security staff member who kindly listened to my mild mannered request. He was a veteran of movie set security and he knew right away who I needed to see. He allowed me to chill with him until he saw my proposed contact person come out from one of the many doors of the theater. First contact went well! My information was passed up the chain of command, so, it was time for more waiting. My new security staff friend and I passed the time by swapping a few security stories; I used to work a 2nd job as a security officer. Six twenty a.m. and a young woman flipping pages on a clipboard headed in my direction. I believe she said she was a producer! Questions and answers were politely exchanged and I was told a time to return. My mission was moving in the right direction, but it’s outcome was still very uncertain.
Eight-thirty a.m. and I was back at the appointed place. I wondered if Charice had already been in makeup, or, was she in the wardrobe room selecting outfits that would suit the shoot? What frock did Cleopatra wear… a flowing golden gown? Would our pop princess wear a crown! My speculations ceased when one of the previously familiar faces greeted me and announced my return over the radio. I patiently waited by the door until the producer I spoke with earlier returned. My hazy memory does not allow for a direct quote, but in effect she said, “You can observe from the side of the stage for now”. She escorted me in! Although another clearance for my admittance was still pending, my expectations for the day had already been exceeded.
A familiar tune I had already heard hundreds of times was filling the set with good vibrations! Pyramid! I took a few steps to the right and I’m emotionally blown to bits and pieces! Charice! On stage! Her personal Sennhauser, Swarovsky-crystal-studded microphone sparkled under the stage lights, it’s bright and beautiful reflections were a compliment to the shining-star beauty of Charice in her element! She looked gorgeous! A few minutes later my laser-like gaze upon Charice was powered down as a new face greeted me. A new face, but with a familiar name! More questions and answers were exchanged, then… conditions were given: no filming of the music video, obey all staff commands, no access to the stars, or to the management’s work area, unless previously approved by management and escorted by a staff member. My request for an interview with Charice would be considered, but there would be no guarantees and it would be subject to the ever changing demands of the video shoot. Yes! Woooooohooooo!
I’m told to take any seat I like and I gazed off stage at over 2,000 seats. The balcony booth seats, on either side of the stage, nearly over the stage, looked tempting. But, I selected center stage, five rows back, next to the director. I had an unobstructed stage view and I could listen to the director’s instructions for setting up each shot and observe the digital camera’s view on a large LCD screen right next to me. The events of that morning were already enough for me to say, “This is my Charice Pyramid Music Video Dream Day!” Amazingly, this was just cloud one of a cloud nine Charice Pyramid Music Video Dream Day!
I feel very blessed to have been granted this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, observing Charice’s Pyramid Music Video. Therefore, I choose to interpret the conditions of my admittance there in a way that I hope will convey my highest respect for Charice’s management’s rules/conditions. In Part Two of my observations, I choose to exclude details of the shoot that would reveal the music video’s artistic theme and style. I hope my generalized observations/impressions of the remainder of the day’s events will still be worthwhile reading. Otherwise, I’ve heard reports that the actual music video will be released within two weeks, so you won’t have to wait long to satisfy your curiosity.

Part 2: Lights, Camera, Action, Drama!
Chasters, how I would love to give you a second by second, IMAX, HD, 3D, with digital surround sound recount of my Pyramid Music Video dream day. I wish that my story would allow you to press replay and auto refresh of your favorite “Official Pyramid Music Video” moments, as you have no doubt been doing as you repeatedly view Charice’s “Unofficial Pyramid Music Video”. It pains me to be limited in the scope of this article by my previous commitments to Charice’s management, my limited vocabulary and my limited mental acuity. I realize that the view through censored eyes is seldom satisfactory. So how do I give voice to my heart? How do I share jubilation overflowing with thanksgiving? How do I become the precentor* of Charice’s Choir of Chasters and bring each of you into the ethereal theater; into paradise?
Join me as I sink down into my seat next to the director’s chair and tip my hat down over my raised brows. I glance around the theater and see I’m one of just a few fortunate souls to be witnessing this amazing event. I felt like standing up and shouting, “Labyo Charice!”, but for now I remained content to say it through my soul. The house lights are dim, the director is discussing stage lighting and the proper video framing with his assistants. We are between scenes, but the entertainer in Charice doesn’t let this moment pass without making it memorable. The production crew and audience start to chuckle as Charice begins a spot on chipmunk imitation followed by a cat meow ovation. Charice grins and then flashes a big teenager smile, letting us know that she’s relaxed and having a good time! Charice takes further advantage of the break and launches into some impromptu popping dance moves. She flows her popping motions into some rhythmic waves and then… she’s doing a full old school robot routine! I wanna dance! My arms and neck unconsciously tense in a robotic recall of my younger dancing days.
Lights adjusted, stage reset, camera ready and the director radios the audio tech to cue the music to begin the next shot. Pyramid soon comes on over the sound system, but, it’s in Chipmunk speed! Maybe the sound engineer enjoyed Charice’s Chipmunks imitations a little too much. The director apologizes to Charice and asks the sound engineer to recue the music and asks the amused audience for quiet. Charice is unflappable. Then the glowing red LED frame marker is drawn back from the camera lens once again and we are rolling! It is Diva time! Charice has my head bobbing from her first glamorous gesture. The stage is hers and she owns every inch of it without traveling a step! Bright lights silhouette her petite frame. Charice’s long straight hair dances around her face, blown by opposing winds that compete for a turn to caress her cute and curvaceous cheeks. Windswept white smoke reaches out to meet Charice like the extended hands of her adoring fans. It quickly surrounds her, then swirls upward to form a glowing halo above our angel’s head. Charice’s confident countenance shines like the legendary stars who have graced this same stage: Little Richard, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder to name just a few.

Wow! That was a great writeup of Charice’s filming of the official music video of the Pyramid. I wish I was there to witness that once in a lifetime opportunity. Jessica86s, forgot about your other questions. Chasters have some very resourceful fans. The location of the shoot was provided to me by another Chaster, Miyi, who I work with at Charice.TV. He encouraged me to go and try to get an interview with Charice. I basically just showed up at the back door of the Orpheum Theatre at 6:00 a.m. and asked that they consider my requests.

Jessica86s, I understand how you feel and I wish I could provide you the details you desire, but my commitment to Charice’s management doesn’t allow me to. I am presently writing part 2 of the story, which will give you some insights into the actual MV shoot!
Daniel, I think you judged Charice’s demeanor well. My observations are that she had a wonderful experience working with Iyaz and the entire production crew. Charice’s Foster dad (hehe) even stopped by to cheer for Charice, along with another tv show producer.
Justcharrie, I believe that the person handing Charice the cap was one of the MV producers. She surprised me and Charice. I’m trying to provide more general information concerning how the shooting progressed in part 2. I’m not a writer by trade so it’s hard for me. Hope to finish it tomorrow.

But, I’m happy for you and glad you had this wonderful and fortunate opportunity to cover this event. BTW, how did you find out the schedule and secure the “green lights” to this shoot? @SideburnerSol – Thanks for covering the MV shoot. Enjoyed reading your very detailed story. I was the one commenting on her MV that Charice will be dressed like Cleopatra and Iyaz will be the Gladiator performing behind the Pyramid of Giza.
Warner Brothers will spent money on this MV since this is the first
one for Charice. This video has to make an impact and WOW the fans
in order for this single and her album to be a hit worldwide.
Judging from Charice demeanor and her bubbly personality on this interview, she’s probably happy with her MV production. Finally, an artist from the Philippines will be accepted in the music mainstream. Like Tina frm WB said, the next few months will be an exciting ride for chasters and they are doing their best to promote Charice. Let’s continue this journey to the TOP BABY!

Lolo, the video alone is a very nice gift from you. We saw Charice inside the theater and the excitement from shooting her first ever MV is very obvious – she’s bubbly as ever.

Charice mentioned her official website in the video and, lo and behold, right there is a link that says “Buy Charice’s new single on iTunes, Amazon, and the Charice Store” If by chance there is anybody still out there who has not been able to purchase “Pyramid” from iTunes or Amazon, looks like you can buy it from Charice’s Official Store. The ‘Add to Cart’ button takes you to warnerbrosrecordstore.com and asks for your country, so I assume this means that international fans will be able to purchase it by credit card at cost of US$1.29 in MP3 format. Please let us know if it works! I would test it out but I already live in USA.
