Charice Rocked Italy Once More

Charice Rocked Italy Once More

Once again, Charice rocked the Italian audience when she performed as a guest in a singing competition “Io Canto,” aired live 23 January in Canale 5. She sang six times during the show in which she showed the best of her singing prowess running through her favorite songs like “I Will Always Love You”, “Listen,” her own single “Note To God,” and a spectacular neck-breaking performance of her first interpretation of a song in Italian, “Adagio.”

One could see the high esteem of the producers and staff of the show for the hearthful warm welcome they gave to her. A short video of her life’s success preceded her entrance.

Introductory video and I Will Always Love You >>> watch here

Here’s the translation of the introductory video:

“That which leaves literally someone stupified when you hear Charice Pempengco sing is her vibrating and powerful voice. Born and grew up in the Philippines, she became in a short time an international phenomenon attracting towards her the attention of the greatest musical producer, first among the rest, David Foster. So Charice, like in one of so many beautiful fairytales, realizes one of her greatest dreams.

“In this moment, her popularity is among the stars, and this is shown through Youtube in which she gained more than 13 millions hits. But Charice remains the usual girl, tied to her family values, especially to her mom, who helped and encouraged her to go ahead.

In the firmament of international music, surely, a new star is born!”

Here are the other videos of Charice’s performances:

Before she sang this song with Cristian, Gerry is so proud to comment some of Charice’s accomplishments.

He said: “Wherever she goes she receives a warm welcome from all over the world, and whatever part of the world she has this same attitude… And she had the fortune, in spite of her young age, to duet with Bocelli, and also with her personal dream, Celine Dion… and I know that recently, she participated also in a film which is about to be released, which I think it was also a great experience… right? Charice then responded… that it was a great experience for her to sing with these great celebrities, and with that she’s very happy!

The crowd was so excited by the time they heard Charice’s name mentioned. She was escorted by a young man as she entered the stage (the stage was so fantastic, by the way, fitting for an international singing sensation), and sang “I Will Always Love You” which she nailed with new riffs and runs that were so mesmerizing!

The producers were so proud to have her in their show, especially the host as he continued to expressed his awe in saying, like: “Incredible, awesome, stupendous, marvelous…”

Gerry Scotti greeted also her family, especially her mother, saying: “… who is always moved just like the first time we saw her in the film.” “Thank you for being here with us!”

He then introduced Cristian, asking Charice whether she knows him. Charice shows that she knew him already as she readily expressed her impression of him. “When I saw him in YouTube, I said to myself: This is the end of me…” she commented, and Cristian responded “No, it is not true!”

Gerry said that Cristian dreamed too to have a duet with Charice and now he is living that moment. He was out of words to express his emotions: “I don’t know what to say to sing with her! It’s a dream…”

So the two vocal phenoms exhibit their out-of-this-world-talents as they made their way through the rough ridges of the song, with its acute vocal-rending high notes for those who are unqualified, and gave the audience a jaw-dropping, breathtaking performance!!! Rightly so that at the end, after hitting and nailing the final notes, while the audience was still expressing their unquenchable thirst for more through rounds of applause, Gerry Scotti couldn’t hold himself in exclaiming, “I am certain that tonight you have witnessed, live on air, something extraordinary! I am convinced! Great, great, great!”

Simone and Lara came in and offered a bouquet of flowers to Charice with a big smile, truly impressed, especially Lara, by her performance. You can overhear her through the microphone saying, “Belli, belli, (Beautiful, beautiful…) You’re number one!” Isn’t that moving?!? Then Lara gave Charice a hug and a loud kiss!!!

“Okay, this is their moment, Scotti continued, let us leave them to enjoy it! Grazie Pittelli!” (I think the one who arranged the song), “Thank you, thank you, thank you, for it has really filled with harmony this marvelous performance. I announce to you,” he proudly added with an exciting tone of voice, “that Charice will be with us the whole night and will give us other moments like this! Grazie! Bravi, bravi, bravi!!!”

And the audience was impatiently excited to see and hear more from her!!!

For the first time in Italian “Adagio” with Cristian Imparato
>>> watch here

Gerry Scotti was just excited to show to the public the first italian song intrepreted by Charice. He asked it as a special gift from her. I have the impression that Gerry Scotti had foreseen that this song would just be ideal to show Charice’s singing prowess that will make the public go wild. And it did! The long applause in standing ovation proved his insight.

The song is a power ballad with acute high notes with rough riffs and melismas. Together with Cristian Imparato, a 13 yr-old schoolboy, the duet turned into a neck-breaking performance that inspires an indescribable sense of awe and enchantment: “Un spettacolo divino cantate da due voci angeliche!” – a divine spectacle performed by two angelic voices!

Charice sings “I Have Nothing” and “Note to God”

Just before the announcement of the winners of the night, Gerry gave more space to Charice in his show by allowing her two more songs. He couldn’t get enough of Charice, and since he had her in his show… it’s just worthwhile to “take advantage of her presence”. (I had this feeling from him! hehehe)

Charice had a nice chorale stationed in different groups around the stage when she sang her “Note to God”. As usual, she moved the audience to their feet after each song! Now for the fourth time she “came and conquered” Italy once more!!! She’s gaining more and more Italian fans getting ready for the release of her upcoming first international album. Good job!

In fact, Gerry, mentioned after she sang that Charice has an upcoming second single “Pyramid” coming out soon, and he endorsed it to the audience – millions of them watching from their homes!!!

Encore of “Listen” with Cristian Imparato
>>> mouseover to watch

At end, after the announcement of the winners, so as to close the show, Gerry once more asked Charice to have an encore with “Listen”!

Someone posted an article in an Italian site saying that the duet of Charice with Cristian ended up as a duel. With the “Listen” duet, Charice showed her apex of vocal prowess and greater musical experience, it says, and with the “Adagio”, Cristian brought his war horse against Charice. It shows in the article that author was a Cristian fan, in which he concluded that Cristian got the victory over Charice.

If we were to keep in line with that writer’s perspective, I would say that with this encore of “Listen”, willed by the producer, the host, the orchestra, the maestro, and the whole production staff, it shows that Charice gained victory over the war horse of Cristian!

And she brought down the house!!!

This article below is from a blog in Italian:

Charice, from youtube to Io Canto: The web phenomenon is once again in Italy

Italy came to know of her through Ti Lascio Una Canzone conducted by Antonella Clerici, but Charice, 17yrs old of filippino origin, popular all over the world for her mighty vocal extensions, is back in Italy as guest of the photocopied-show Io Canto this time conducted by Gerry Scotti in Channel 5, and faithful to RaiUno´s original show is once again offering the same guests making them once again sing duets with the young contestants. But who is Charice? Like the contestants, she was also a child prodigy, singing in public at a very young tender age.

Not many people knows that Charice Pempengco, that is her complete name, is together with her younger brother, raised by her mother alone, who left her father after all the domestic violence as Charice was just three years old. To help the family, charice started joining several singing contest at the very young age (at 7yrs old). The breakthrough came in 2005, when the little girl joined Little Big Star, a program with it´s format dedicated to babytalents, something like the more popular American idol. The show was aired in the Philippine´s National Broadcaster. Inspite of her talent and a powerful vocal extensions, Charice´ first live performance doesn´t seem to convince, she was elliminated on the first night. But then she was picked as a jolly-contestant, a sort of “reserve” one, she was able to be in the program´s finalist. Despite the fact that she could possibly be the winner of the program, Charice has to be contented as a 3rd placer. Until 2007, Charice was just having irregular appearances in the local channels, but thanks to one avid fan who uploaded her videos in YouTube which made the Charice-Phenomenon exploded on-line: the web got crazy with that girl with incredible vocal extensions, that can pass with nonchalance from Whitney Houston to Celine Dion, without changing a single original note of the songs.

The first self-titled album of the artist CHARICE, was released on May 2008, consisting mostly of covers fr Whitney Houston, Jennifer Holiday, Amy Diamond and many more.

The second album, My Inspiration, was then realeased on Mother´s Day, in May 2009, in which Charice sung a duet with her mom Raquel in the song You and me against the World.

The next single of this baby-artist is called Pyramid, to be released next February.

In the meantime we selected a live performance of hers which she’d done in this American living-room show, per excellence, The Oprah Winfrey Show.

And another blog in Italian mentioned Charice, but according to our translator, Wilma, it´s not really about Charice but actually all about Christian and his performances. Translated is the part where they mentioned Charice:

The most emotional part is that when Imparato (Christian) performed with the young singer of a filippino origin, Charice Pempengco, 16 years old with an angelic voice, her collaborations with Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli are something to brag about.

In the program, these two sang “Listen”, the young singer´s (Charice´) winning piece, they bewitched the viewers and moved them all with the song “Adagio”, which Charice accepted to interpret in italian. It´s a performance worth of the greatest interpreters of Music in the World, and the performance video, needless to say, is already creating madness in the web.

One hand washes the other. I knew of Lara Fabian in the past but never really got into her music. I never knew she sang Adagio until hearing that Charice and Cristian were singing it. Like others, I looked for the song and came up with Lara Fabian’s rendition in Italian and English. She is one amazing vocalist and throws all her emotions into her performance. Not only talented but beautiful. I now think she belongs right up there with Whitney, Celine, and dare I say, Charice.

Anyway, I commented on her video to watch Charice and Cristian, so I hope her videos get more play and now I want to hear Charice cover some of her songs (though covers may be a thing of the past). “I Will Love Again” was a popular Dance song in the past and I would love to hear Charice’ rendition; although the subject (break-ups) is something she has not experienced before. But thanks to Charice I have rediscovered Lara Fabian and now will enjoy her music, as well.

Welcome back to our home sweet home.
We missed your musical perception and cognition–analysis of the whole musical shebang.
On ADAGIO, if my memory serves me right, I have heard that melody way back in the early 60′s in our school chapel, when I was still in grade school being played on the organ during communion. Am I right or is this a new composition?
    May I warm your cup?

Ay yay yay, if Charice has rocked Italy once more, believe me, I was amazed, maybe ROCKED is the apt word to describe my joy reading the lines of RETURNING commentators of “YORE”. I need time to refresh my memory of how you folks led and uplifted one another in building this Site to what it is now. I just felt, with my conscience egging me no end, that I am compelled to return to where YOU and I have experienced the joy of writing, with CHARICE singing at the back of our head.

Yes, I love ADAGIO. It caters to my dilettante taste for this art. And I was right, you too loved this song to force you to break your long silence and write a few lines in praise of our gem of a singer, CHARICE.

MAX, take a leave, we are back. You too, JIMFAN155…..

Hahahahaha, I was about to give up on you my friend. If Charice’s performance of Adagio didn’t bring forth a comment from you like it did JP and Henri_v, nothing on earth could have.

The coffee shop is open and JP is serving up his “Special” blend of coffee whose aroma lifts one up such as Charice’s smile. Come in and visit a while. I can’t take a leave though, I might miss another jaw dropping performance of our princess.

I hope the campaign is going well.

Charice took a gigantic gamble when she agreed with Lo Canto to sing Adagio with Cristian. A single messed up in front of the camera can ruin a career. And Cristian, a great singer in his own right and singing in his native language can truly be superior to anybody singing with him and therefore exposed their weaknesses. Could you imagine other guest taking these huge risk? Did Bianca Ryan sing Italian songs or do other things out of her comfort zone?

But Charice is a big girl and can handle tremendous amount of pressure. She did it inspite of not being 100% physically and only with 3 days notice to learn the somg. She displayed tremendous courage beyond her years. She is a trooper. And at the end she was a perfect fit for Cristian to sing Adagio. She was magical beyond words can expressed. And they chanted “Charice, Charice, Charice”.

And because of her amazing singing of Adagio with Cristian, this will usher in a new era where Charice would be truly a global singer – singing songs in the language of countries where she is invited. Ain’t that nice.

    • ArrVee says:
it’s not that she took a gamble, but that she showed her mettle once more, and this goes beyond her singing. She is a quick study and can make any song her own in short time. She quickly adapts to the different dynamics of a duet, and is sensitive to the delicate matter of egos in such an environment, which she graciously defuses with her self-deprecating remark about Cristian’s singing being the end of her (I believe she sees some of herself in Cristian and just wants him to succeed as well).

No matter the environment, the song, language, or her condition, her gift cuts through all that morass like a flaming sword and manages to touch each one of us deeply.

Once she gets into her “zone”, she spreads her wings to own the stage, the song, the audience, and our hearts, way past the physical stage and across the internet.

Funny story, just 2 days ago I went to the photography studio I work for and an associate, who works there asked me about “that girl singer you told me about last year (duet with Celine). Is she still singing?” Of course I told her about her up and coming album and had her watch “Adagio” and wowed her again. I had to go back to the studio again last night and she said “Jim, I didn’t ask you about Charice for a year and yesterday I did. I went home and watched Alvin and the Chipmunks – The Squeakquel and there was Charice.” Needless to say I went home with a big smile on my face knowing she now knows “Charice” by name and not “that girl singer” any longer.

    Dear Henri and Max, CHASTERS
There is no appointed time in sharing good things–anytime is a good time to share. As sharing can be done in many ways; anybody can serve; share a thought, break bread with the hungry, comfort the sick or console the grieving. We are simply men blessed with a treasure chest filled with gems that we have gathered along God’s path as we constantly struggled along bumpy roads in our journey. If we feel the love in our heart and believe that we can serve, these gems we can generously share.
It is mentally and emotionally hard to face the realities of life…an instance when you are put to the test while pushed against the wall. There is nothing that you can hold on to for support, only your mind and soul. Believers may pray and ask for mercy…others just feel forsaken and can only cry.
This, our imperfect world, will not run out of opportunities for those who wish to serve. A favorable time for those who want to make a difference, an occasion for those who can bring joy and pleasure to the downtrodden and for those who may want to make someone happy and put a smile on his/her face.
I believe that prayers are only affirmation of our faith in Him. God, in his infinite wisdom have provided us with virtues that we must seek within us in our time of need. In our lifetime, we may find ourselves compelled to accept some things solely by faith. I have to accept that I/we have a finite mind –with limited knowledge, which is inadequate to understand the mystery of life—I shall now pause and leave it to His Divine Providence. I understand, I understand…when it rains, I’ll let the rain fall.

Did my short piece ring a bell? If it did, thank you all for listening, you too have something to share. Walk slow, there are more gems scattered about along God’s path. Walk in faith and love!
Let’s just watch Charice sing and paint the true colors of life…Charice, our joy and pleasure.
