Charice in Milano, Italia “io Canto” 01/23/10

Watch Charice on the show called “IO CANTO” (which means “I Sing”) on the Italian TV Channel “Canale 5.” The show aired Saturday night, January 23 at 09:10 pm CET (Central European Time). It was broadcast LIVE from Milan, Italy, with a metropolitan population of approx. 7 million.

For her first song, Charice was escorted down the steps to the stage to sing a solo of I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU… for her first standing ovation of the evening. She then performed a duet, singing LISTEN with the wonderful young, Italian singer, Cristian Imparato, bringing me to tears because they sang so beautifully together, and earned an extended standing ovation. Charice was presented with flowers after these first two songs by a little blind girl who was so obviously starstruck as she says to Charice, “you’re number 1.”

Charice returned later in the show to perform ADAGIO, again with Cristian. In the pre-song interview, Charice admits that she is nervous as the host, Gerry Scotti, asks a favor of her to sing a song in Italian! What the Italians might not realize, however, is that Charice learned this song just three days prior to the LIVE recording of this show, presumably seen by hundreds of thousands of television viewers. Well no wonder she is nervous! But she nailed the song, Italian accent and all, according to our Italian chasters in the chatbox.

Watching their performance, I am again brought to tears as was the lady judge. After the song, Cristian says it was just “fantastico” to sing with Charice. The judges were very moved and the host exclaims “maravillosa, brava… mamma mia!” (translation: “marvelous,” of course) The crowd starts to chant “bravi, bravi, bravi…” (plural of bravo)

In the last 30 minutes (of this 3-hour show), Charice performed two solos: I HAVE NOTHING and NOTE TO GOD… another standing ovation. And then the finale with all the kids on stage, an encore performance of LISTEN with Cristian and Charice, obviously enjoying sharing the stage with all the young singers of io canto.

Charice “I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU” (with intro, the song begins 1:30)
Intro translation:
“That which leaves literally someone stupified when you hear Charice Pempengco sing is her vibrating and powerful voice. Born and raised in the Philippines, she became in a short time an international phenomenon attracting towards her the attention of the greatest musical producer, first among the rest, David Foster. So, Charice, like in one of so many beautiful fairytales, realizes one of her greatest dreams.

“In this moment, her popularity is among the stars, and this is shown through Youtube in which she gained more than 13 millions hits. But Charice remains a humble girl, tied to her family values, especially to her mom, who helped and encouraged her to go ahead.

In the firmament of international music, surely, a new star is born!”

Translation at 4:10 onward:
He said: “standing ovation for your great voice, thank you. Wherever she goes she receives a warm welcome from all over the world, and whatever part of the world she has this same attitude… And she had the fortune, in spite of her young age, to duet with Boccelli, and also with her personal dream, Celine Dion… and I know that recently, she participated also in a film which is about to be released, which I think it was also a great experience… right?” Charice then responded… that it was a great experience for her to sing with these great celebrities, and with that she’s very happy!

Translation:
Gerry then introduced Cristian. Charice graciously says “When I saw him in YouTube, I said to myself: This is the end of me…” to which Cristian responded “No, it is not true!” Gerry said that Cristian dreamed too to have a duet with Charice and now he’s living that moment. He was out of words to express his emotions: “I don’t know what to say to sing with her! It’s a dream…”

LISTEN – Charice sings duet with Cristian Imparato
After the song, there’s a huge standing ovation where Charice looks overwhelmed and everyone looks stunned by the performance. Gerry Scotti couldn’t hold himself in exclaiming, “I am certain that tonight you have witnessed, live on air, something extraordinary! I am convinced! Great, great, great!”

Simone and Lara came in and offered a bouquet of flowers to Charice with a big smile, truly impressed, especially Lara, by her performance. You can overhear her through the microphone saying, “Belli, belli, (Beautiful, beautiful…) You’re number one!” Isn’t that moving?!? Then Lara gave Charice a hug and a loud kiss!!!

“Okay, this is their moment, Scotti continued, let us leave them to enjoy it! Grazie Pittelli!” (I think the one who arranged the song) Thank you, thank you, thank you, for it has really filled with harmony this marvelous performance. I announce to you,” he proudly added with an exciting tone of voice, “that Charice will be with us the whole night and will give us other moments like this! Grazie! Bravi, bravi, bravi!!!”

.I HAVE NOTHING / NOTE TO GOD

Just before the announcement of the winners of the night, Gerry gave more space to Charice in his show by allowing her two more songs. He couldn’t get enough of Charice, and since he had her in his show… it’s just worthwhile to “take advantage of her presence.” (I had this feeling from him! hehehe)

Charice had a nice chorale stationed in different groups around the stage when she sang her “Note to God.” As usual, she moved the audience to their feet after each song! Now for the fourth time she “came and conquered” Italy once more!!! She’s gaining more and more italian fans getting ready for the release of her upcoming first international album. Good job!

In fact, Gerry, mentioned after she sang that Charice has an upcoming second single “Pyramid” coming out soon, and he endorsed it to the audience – millions of them watching from their homes!!!

Encore Performance & Finale – LISTEN

At end, after the announcement of the winners, so as to close the show, Gerry once more asked Charice to have an encore with “Listen”!

Translation by bakero83: “Celine sings on stage with someone who has a voice as splendid as hers, Charice, the young filipina interpreter who has reached the top of the international music scene and who will be a guest on the new episode of Io Canto, presented by Gerry Scotti, on canale 5…(then the kids talk and i can’t understand a word of what they’re saying lol)…After Bianca Ryan, tonight it will be Charice’s turn. 17 years old, filipina, has sung in concert for Barack Obama’s inaugurational events and became famous because of the internet. Coming from a poor family, is a symbol for the capacity of overcoming obstacles with the power of her talent. Has sung with Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, who defines her as a force of nature.”

The Format of Io Canto Show:

The format of “Io canto” is similar to that of “American Idol”. The contestants, however, are children of age 7-15. There is tele-voting by the audience and an expert jury. There are also dancers and gymnasts. Finally, there are invited guest artists who will sing together with the contestants.

There is speculation that Charice might sing an Italian song called “Adagio” (which means “slowly”). After some chatroom chatter was heard from chasters wanting to hear this song and how the Italian audience would LOVE IT, Charice “plurked” requesting an mp3 version of the song, which chasters dutifully complied as quick as a lightning flash lol. Another plurk followed soon thereafter, with this brief but telling note “Memorizing mode!” Well this was all several hours ago. (on Wednesday, January 20th – 3 days before the show!)

Now I know Charice is a David Foster certified genius, and we’ve all heard her sing a dozen songs from memory on blogTV, but “Io Canto” is a live reality show to be televised in just 3 more days! And I would imagine the songs have already been selected so that the Italian orchestra would have time to prepare. But you never know what surprises Charice might have up her sleeve…

The Italian version of the song was performed beautifully on “Io Canto” by one of the contestants, 13-year old Cristian Imparato, on the January 9 show. Wow, watch this kid sing on the video below. He is really good!

The English version is performed by Lara Fabian, an international, Belgian-born, multi-lingual singer, fluent in French, Italian, Spanish and English, with Gold and Platinum records to her credit. And even an English single, “I Will Love Again,” which reached #1 on the USA Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1999.

.
The article below is roughly translated from an Italian blog called “Reality& Show” that gives more details about “Io Canto.”

Raw Translation:
Just change the title and not much: I let you have a song (Ti lascio una canzone) (Score: 7.5) with Antonella Clerici (7) and I sing (Io Canto) with Gerry Scotti (7) aired on Saturday on Channel 5 at 21.10. The format of the program remained at Rai, which confirms what you have in the program in the Clerici schedule from 27 March. The author is the same that has created Ti Lascio Una Canzone, Roberto Cenci who has recently signed an exclusive contract to Mediaset for 4 years. Could not bear the title on Channel 5 but all the rest: children singing, race celebrated tunes, part of the jury, the players and Gigi Max
“Many say that the program Io Canto is a photocopy of our transmission Rai Ti Lascio Una Canzone – according to the director of Raiuno Mauro Mazza – I believe that those who watch TV but I prefer the original to follow later.” Mazza also explained that before the airing of Io Canto, we can´t do anything, “we must wait before taking any action that goes on the air and see if the format is really so similar. You can not make these accusations.” No comment by Clerici but Saturday will be on TV as host of Dancing with the Stars (6.5) “to accompany some children in my program this time, will perform as dancers.”

Gerry Scotti, as interviewed by Corriere della Sera says: “It is a daughter, needless to hide it. I would not have had problems keeping the same title: it was not possible. But it is one of the few programs that have been racked by RAI Mediaset. Then we made some changes. ” The only difference is the ultimate prize:

the seventh and final episode, the young talent that will be distinguished as the best performer will be able to go to America to study and stay in this adventure will be accompanied by David Foster, one of the biggest producers of music in the world. And Foster will be in the studio for the final program, to reward the best talent, in person. That scholarship, this is not an original idea (it is now!), But some initiatives of its kind in television, the more there are, the better to help budding talents to have the opportunity to study and cultivate their natural gifts.

Every Saturday, live, from Studio 20 in Cologno Monzese, stepping on stage are about 29 young performers from schools and academies throughout the singing of Italy, who will perform live on the notes of the most famous songs of the Italian musical repertoire and interned. There will be 12 songs in the competition each week and viewers through voting, decreed the winning song of the episode. In the studio there is also a jury composed of the best quality in the first episode by Claudio Cecchetto, Katia Ricciarelli, Ornella Muti and Claudio Amendola. The jury will be given the task of rewarding the best performer.

An orchestra composed of 33 items and conducted by Maestro Maurizio Pica will accompany the performances of the boys. Also, Io Canto will have two professional dance companies: the first consisting of professional dancers and the second composed of emerging young dancers. And yet, six rhythmic gymnastics athletes of international level will be the protagonists of some very exciting moments. The choreography will be treated by Antonio Baldes.

Gerry Scotti Corsera declared: “I never thought that a program of songs with the children that I like so much. I was skeptical. Then I started to attend their trials: their skills amazed me. And I realized that if I´m also at their age, if I had the voice, I wanted to have this experience. If I had a daughter and asked me to do Miss Italy or tissue or letters, I would not dare to say that it would suit me. ” These are not “little monsters”, in short: “I’m not super-kids, but good singers. I was convinced of their normal exceptional nature of their talents. Crisscrossing the family, I never had the uneasy feeling that there were exaggerated expectations. And we are sure you have selected excellence. ”

GUEST ON TV The first episode Al Bano, Francesco Renga, Charter Mark and Karima Ammar.

“Listen”…How could the Philippines have not noticed this outstanding talent in Charice? And look at the way the world truly recognizes, respects, admires, praises and loves her. What a sorry lot those “Kababayans” of Charice are. Now they want to reclaim her? My oh my. How embarrassing. A classic case of someone trying to desperately bite his own elbow in regretful frustration. lol

caruso is not really italian or italiano,it is in napolitano dialect.unlike adagio, you have to have familiarity with the dialect in order to give emotion and right pronounciation.Because even italian who arent from napoli doenst give justice to the song as much as a certified napolitano.
