MANILA, Philippines – The biggest TV event in the planet is back and it’s bigger than ever. The brand new season of American Idol (AI), which airs on Q-11, has a brand new judge, Ellen Degeneres, and a host of stars: Victoria Beckham, Katy Perry, Mary J. Blige, Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, and Kristin Chenoweth. And we’re just talking of the audition episodes here.
One of the reasons Season 9, which kicks off with a two-part premiere airing Jan. 13 and 14, 6 p.m., is widely anticipated is because Ellen is in the show. She joins resident Idol judges Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, and Simon Cowell.
Ellen is certainly one of the hottest stars in Hollywood and her recent win at the People’s Choice Awards is yet another proof of her popularity. Last September, Idol announced Ellen as resident judges following the departure of Paula Abdul from the show.
A self-described music fanatic, Ellen said in a press statement released shortly after the announcement, “I’m thrilled to be the new judge on American Idol. I’ve watched since the beginning, and I’ve always been a huge fan. So getting this job is a dream come true. And think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text in my vote.”
The accessible humor and nurturing persona aside, Pinoy fans love Ellen even more after she has featured four — and counting! — Filipino musical acts on her show. She was the first to feature Charice Pempengco on US television. That was December 2007, after extending an on-air invitation for the young singer to guest on her show.

The premiere episodes of American Idol also feature some of the funniest and most memorable Idol auditions across the US. Season 9’s Jan. 13 episode will show the Boston auditions held at the Gillette Stadium; the Jan. 14 episode will feature the Atlanta auditions held at the Georgia Dome.
Other audition venues include Cowboys Stadium, Dallas; Rose Bowl, Los Angeles ; United Center, Chicago; and Amway Arena, Orlando. As expected, thousands lined up for the chance to become the next American Idol.
Posh Spice and the other guest judges appear during the audition, one guest judge at a time. This means viewers are going to have fun guessing which audition venue their favorite star will show up as guest judge.

Inviting Charice on American Idol is not on hands of Ellen D. It depends on the producer of the show. Ellen is just an employee of the show she has no power of inviting Charice on A. Idol. I watch A. Idol too but if I saw a guest singer that dosen’t have the same caliber of Charice I turn to another channel. The producer don’t have any idea how much extra more in millions of viewers will be added if they guested Charice on A.I.

please invite charice pempengco in american idol 2010, she got the best voice ever and genuine personality, i think she’s a good role model to any young and old people who wants to be an artist. she came from nowhere but because of her talent and of course people who supports her( who she never forgets ) she achieve quite far already. i’m a huge fan of hers and most of my friends idolize her as well. pls.pls.pls. hope she’ll be a guest of the show. thanks.

I think Ellen is hysterical. And she is very likable. Im looking forward to it. I hope she is prepared to take the heat though from idol fans. Shes used to being popular and well liked. But idol fans are a serious and at times vicious lot.

Most of those who guested on AI were already established singers/artists in the US. Charice, if ever, and it is not far-fetched might release her album first before guesting otherwise she’ll be perceived as a threat by whoever will win the AI and Simon wont like that. This is only my two cents though. But I sure would like Charice to be invited as a guest performer on AI and see the reaction of the AI crowd. Let us admit that AI audience is different from those gatherings where Charice was invited to perform (except the Celine MSG Concert, where there might have been a mixed crowd)

I must apologize for my earlier comment when I said I set Charice as the standard to compare AI contestants. After thinking about it this was not fair at all. Charice has been doing this for 10 years and has been on the stage in front of millions of people. So even though she will only begin her international recording career this year she has so much experience she is already being spoken in the same company of the superstars. So I don’t know if I should call her a rookie or a seasoned professional.
All I can say is “what a future”.

I watched the AI auditions last night. There was one 16 yr old girl Katie? who sounded good- Jazzy tone of voice. None comes close to Charice’s talent – Hers is truly a once-in-a-generation voice.

You know, you may have something here Becky. It has the makings of the start of a fantastic marketing campaign where this would be the starting point of another snowball effect turning into an avalanch. I think it really could work too if all the chasters started texting and emailing AI just as they did at SI. And I would very much like to see the reunion of Ellen and Charice. What an emotional occassion that would be I believe. Great idea. I hope Charicemania and the chasters would pick up on this idea.

Unfortunately, it’s only a partial joke as no one has come close to her talent, as far as I’m concerned.
I too would like to see Charice do a guest shot on AI. Wasn’t Andrea Bocelli on one year? I don’t think there is anything to worry about being a non American. There have been these fears before and she has sung the National Anthem and God Bless America to standing ovations, so really no need to worry. Always wanted to hear what Simon’s opinion is of her, although it really won’t be in a judges setting.

Of all the guesting I would like Charice to be in this year, it’s definitely American Idol. Hoping that she can promote her album there while Simon is still around – well I want to see his jaw dropped! But I’m optimistic it will really happen soon. With Ellen on the show, it’ll be an exciting reunion.

Thank you Joe. I posted the schedule above for North American times. The articles come from the Philippines news so the reference is for the Philippines TV channel and time, which is approx. one day ahead of us in the West. Thanks for noticing that.
To Katuy and other speculators, Americans love the Philippines and they love Charice. There is NOTHING negative about her appearing on AI, to the contrary. Charice would bless us once again and open hearts to a new audience. It is not about being an American talent show. It is great entertainment with mixed laughs, tears and emotion all of which Charice can provide simply by the mention of her name to those who know her. What a blessing it will be for all if she can appear on AI. Keep thinking positve, keep dreaming (wishing) and praying for our beloved Princess.

americans have, throughout their history, embraced people from all over the world so to answer your question, i don’t think there will be a lot of negative feedback. from my experience with knowing and working with americans, they are not too interested in where you come from, they are interested in what you are capable of doing and how good you are with what you do. and if that is true, then i think that the average american will not only welcome her but love her to bits =).

I hope Charice gets an opportunity to guest on Idol this year while Simon is still there!!! Ellen knows talent when she see’s it….I only hope there are no more delays with Charice’s song/albums so
it would optimize Charice’s opporunnities… on Idol.
I wrote Ellen a few times already and
suggested Charice for her show and AI too, though not too overtly.
And I know i am not alone in this endeavor.

Charice at American Idol finals would be really fantastic! You fans based in the US – start a campaign to invite Charice as the FINALS guest performer. Singaporean fans did that, that is why the Producers had no choice but to invite Charice on the Singapore Idol Finals.

I doubt Ellen judges based on nationality. When she sees talent, like Oprah, she simply tries to highlight them regardless of looks or race. Plus, AI is controlled pretty much by its producers.
