After producers of The Ellen DeGeneres Show saw a YouTube clip of the then 16-year old Charice Pempengco singing the Dreamgirls anthem “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” they flew her in from her native Philippines to perform. With Web clips of her concerts already a viral hit in Asia, Pempengco found herself on Oprah a few months later, where her rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” brought audience members to tears. That’s when the magic started: Oprah introduced the teenager to record producer David Foster, who helped put together her first U.S. single, “Note to God”; it debuted in May on the Billboard Top 50. Foster also added the starlet to the cast of his PBS special, Hitman: David Foster & Friends, alongside singers like Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion.
Pempengco, whom Oprah has dubbed the most talented girl in the world, will also play herself in next year’s Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel.

Rolly – Charice is the least famous of the proteges on the list. Everyone else is a househould name, a staple on television and magazines, and much sought after for their expertise. However, this is not the right forum to express your sentiment because this is all about Charice and to her fans, she is no. 1. That explains the disapproval on your post. If she wins this one, lots of people will probably be surprised but that’s the way it goes for Chasters.

Hi Max, I just did it and even registered on Time Magazine websie so that my ranking will be counted, for sure Charice is my number one. I hope she gets this one too. You’re right Alex, when I saw Charice’ giant billboard for an advertisement of Lion’s Condominium near the intersection of NAIA (Manila Airport) and Imelda Ave I was super thrilled, I didn’t have a long stare of it though coz I was in my car driving.

I’ll answer my own question, lol. Since Dec. 2nd when I asked this question, I just found out Charice won the “Best Musical Performance of 2009″ poll. Not only did she win, she won with 70% of the vote, out voting both “Black Eyed Peas” and Michael Buble among others.
Chaster Power won this one.
