Charice is one of the performers who donated their time in the recording of a new song called Pilipino, Kaya Natin ’To, with proceeds to benefit the victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.
MANILA, Philippines — The devastation wrought by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng is bringing out the best in many of us, releasing an outpouring of love for the people affected by them. To express their eagerness to help, some 80 performers are coming together to raise funds for the typhoons’ victims.
The concert, “Pilipino, Kaya Natin ‘To,” will be staged on Dec 5 at the SM Mall of Asia under Rowell Santiago’s direction. The idea for a benefit concert began with talent manager, Girlie Rodis, who called on Ogie Alcasid to help gather OPM artists for a fundraising event. Rodis shares, “Ondoy destroyed houses, and Gawad Kalinga is about building homes, so we chose it to be the concert’s main beneficiary.”
For the concert, Ogie composed the song “Pilipino, Kaya Natin ‘To” which conveys a message of hope through music, as it seeks to uplift the spirits of typhoon victims. The performers may come from competing production labels and networks, but they’re bound by a common desire to help.
“Pilipino, Kaya Natin ‘To,” sung by OPM Artists United, has been released as a CD single by Universal Records, in cooperation with Sony Music, MCA Universal, Warner, Star Records, Polyeast, Viva and GMA Records.

English as the common denominator…
I agree that we use English in the postings. Now if there are articles that is in another language, we ask the admin to have it translated first to English before it is posted in this website. I believe we have Chasters fans who speak different languages aside from English and the admin can ask them to translate articles first before they are posted. I do not know the process – maybe the website admin can clarify us on this?

We try to post English articles of course. On some occassions though, like on requests (esp. performances videos or news), we post first then try to get translations as quick as possible. I feel very uncomfortable posting articles in any languages rather than English as not to provoke any uncomfortable discussions. But sometimes our worst enemy is the “time” itself. Running out late if you know what I mean. Most of the fans are very eager to read/see the latest from Charice as soon as it´s fresh from the press or YouTube. Tagalog articles/words are for obvious reasons unavoidable. Our main goal is still to introduce and bring out Charice´s name internationally. I hope that answers your question.

It was the consensus many months ago to use English in this website to accommodate each and everyone of various persuasions, not to alienate anybody.
Besides, there is also a Charice Korean fan site, Chinese and Italian fan sites as well.
The matter of the language preference, I believe, was to ensure that everyone viewing and visiting this website to have a ‘common denominator’ to be able to communicate with each other, after all, that is what language is for….to communicate. Otherwise, any language can be used but will not serve the purpose of people coming together, understanding and expressing themselves to each other. More so, as Charice is singing mostly English songs in her quest to enter the US and the global audience.
Nonetheless, I am almost sure, charicemania.com people are very accommodating if there are other cultures, i.e..East Indians, Greeks, Russians, Scandinavians, Germans, Thais, Malaysians,Japanese, Arabs, Nigerians, Ugandans, etc. who may want to propose some inovative ideas on this matter. Right, charicemania.com?

English is the only language I understand fluently, but I have always had this thought about CM. What about our fellow Chasters who may not be fluent in English? How can they be included with us if they may not be proficient in English?
I don’t know what the answer is unless the comments can be translated later, but the thought of excluding anyone kinds bothers me, especially if they can’t help it.

Jimfan, yeah you have a point there, now I am having a second thought, but there are dictionaries in different languages which can be teanslated to English and vice-versa, that way we will all learn how to write/speak in English. Oh, I don’t know . . . this website should not be inclusive it should be for everybody. WELCOME CHASTERS!!!!

Hi Eve, I totally agree with you, let’s make “ENGLISH” as Chasters official language here so that we wlll all understand each other and unite with our common goal i.e., to support Charice of her career in whichever way we can. Merry Christmas Chasters!!!

thanks, doyax, of course we all love Cha!! Hope to see your comments here often. The reason for the English only policy is because Charice has international fans and English is understood by everyone. We don’t want to limit her reach by speaking Filipino only as it would discourage participation by most of the rest of the world. And our goal is to make Charice an international superstar. CM averages 8000 daily page views with only 10% of CM readers from the Philippines, 41% from USA, and the rest from all over the world. Obviously they don’t all speak Filipino, including myself, kaunti lang (very little). Hence the English comment policy is to be as inclusive as possible, in recognition of Charice’s international appeal.
We encourage everyone to comment, from whereever you may live, and give a shout out from your country, city/state/region/province/prefecture. I, for one, would like to know what countries are represented by all the chasters!
