David Archuleta recalls when his parents called him to tell him to watch a story on Oprah about this girl named Charice. He said, “it was amazing to hear her story and her voice! She seriously has one of the best voices I’ve heard in a long time, and I had chills the entire time I was watching about her life…She was really inspiring and for those of you who haven’t heard her yet, I think you’re in for a real treat!
She sang My Heart Will Go On during her appearance on Oprah, and it’s amazing to see how much passion she has for what she does! I also loved how she talked about how important her mom was to her.”
.
Little did he know that a few months later, he would be collaborating with Charice for his album Christmas From the Heart. Through the use of technology, the Filipina singer was able to sing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas with David even though they were miles apart.
In the November 27 press conference of Charice’s newest endorsement launched at the Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong City, the 17-year old female singer expressed her happiness for being given the chance to be featured on David’s album.
“Super happy ako na nag No. 2 siya sa United States at laging pinatutugtog sa radio. Natutuwa ako na No. 1 naman siya sa China. Yung iba tao sinasabi na hindi daw ako deserving na maging ka-duet niya. Pero natutuwa pa rin ako kasi super daming nagdownload ng song. I just want to congratulate David Archuleta… nagkausap lang kami last week na kasi nag-congratulate ako sa kanya para sa album na Christmas from the Heart.
[I'm super-happy because the song is No. 2 in the United States and it's played on the radio. And I'm happy it's even at No. 1 in China. There are some people who say I don't deserve a duet with him. But I'm happy anyway because there's lots of downloads for the song. I just want to congratulate David Archuleta... we talked to him just last week to congratulate him on his album Christmas from the Heart.]
“Si David po kasi napaka-joyful na tao kapag kausap mo siya,” Charice points out. “Parang di ko ubos maisip kung paano siya kapag malungkot. Napakasaya niyang tao kaya masarap siyang maging kaibigan. Pero now hindi pa totally nagbobonding pero sana siyempre, like yung sinabi niya sa isang interview, baka someday makanta namin together yung song.”
[David is simply a joyful person to talk with. I really can't imagine how he'd be if he's sad. He's such a jolly person that it is such a pleasure to have him as a friend. We haven't totally bonded yet, but of course I'm hoping, like what he said in an interview, we'll get to sing the song together.]
In a separate interview with USA Today, David Archuleta said that he was “really excited” when he learned that he would do a duet with Charice since he knows that she has a big voice for someone her age. The American Idol runner-up was quoted as saying: “We tried to complement each other as best we could instead of seeing who could sing better. I’m sure she would outdo me by a mile anyway. But I didn’t want people to think that we were competing or anything. Because I’m known for being on American Idol and competing, and she’s known for having a huge, amazing voice. It was cool that we both tried to keep the sensitivity of the song. Because she can do anything. She’s such an amazing singer.”
Aside from being part of David’s album, Charice is also part of the compilation album A Very Special Christmas Volume 7 featuring Colbie Caillat, the Carter Twins, Miley Cyrus, Kristinia DeBarge, Gloriana, Vanessa Hudgens, Sean Kingston, Leighton Meester, Mitchel Musso, Kellie Pickler, Ashley Tisdale, and Carrie Underwood. The proceeds of the album help support the Special Olympics. For this album, Charice performed the song A Christmas Song.
As for her own international album, Charice says that she will release her first single for the Warner Music album by January 2010. The still-untitled album will be released by the first quarter of the year.
When Charice performs for the first time abroad, she is expected to use the Swarovski-studded microphone that she received from Sennheiser, the German audio company that picked her as its brand ambassador.
First Hollywood Movie.
Charice marks another milestone in her career when she appears in her first Hollywood film Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: the Squeakquel. When she auditioned for a part in the animated movie, she entertained the panel with her impersonation of a Chipette. But in the movie, she won’t be an animated character; instead, she will be a girl who is one of the rival singers of the Chipmunks in a school competition.
When the first movie came out, Charice admitted that she was so in love with it that she estimates that she has watched it around 100 times on her iPod.
“Actually yung shooting po five days,” recalls Charice. “May sarili pa akong trailer at may time talaga yung shoot naming from 7 am to 5 pm tapos balik na lang bukas kasi ayaw nila ng napupuyat kami. Yung isa nga na taga drawing ng chipmunks ginawan niya ako ng drawing ni Alvin na may hawak na iPod tapos nakadrawing sa iPod yung picture ko.”
[Actually, we had five shooting days. And I also had my own trailer, and we really had a specified time from 7 am to 5 pm, then we just came back the next day because they did not want us to work too late and get tired . One of the animators of the chipmunks even gave me a drawing of Alvin holding an iPod with my picture on it.]
Charice will be spending Christmas here in the country with her loved ones.
Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel will be screened in the Philippines by January 8, 2010.

Just tonight I was listening to the radio here in Toronto, Canada, and the announcer introduces the next song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, by David Archuleta. So the song starts, and I’m thinking – could that be the duet with Charice? And lo and behold, when her turn comes, I hear this all-too-familiar voice over the radio, and I am so surprised by how thrilled I am to hear her. The sad thing is that the announcer did not mention her name. But it was still such a thrill to finally hear her over the radio here in Toronto.
This is part of the playlist I cut and pasted from 98.1 CHFI’s website, showing the song sung at 9:14pm:

I for one am a huge fan of Charice and David. I am so glad that she agreed to the duet with him. She is an amazing singer. I hope to see them in the future sing live together. Whoever said she didn’t deserve to sing with him was dumb! It was probably just some jealous teen making rude comments. So, I wouldn’t pay any attention to it if I was Charice. Whoever said that needs to know…David would not approve at all if he knew people had said hurtful things to someone he likes and respects. David and Charice are my two favorite artists right now and I hope they continue to do great.

Hi Eve.
You know I like to keep things light and not too serious, but that statement struck a nerve. I wouldn’t go as far as gonerunner’s comment, but I can’t deny a somewhat less similar thought crossed my mind.
Charice included in any album is a big plus and means added sales and the respect DA and Charice have for each other should be seen as an advantage for both. It’s a win, win situation for both camps; as there will be new cross over fans for both sides.

Whoever said that Charice don’t deserve to have a duet with DA is probably not human. Charice already has a track record to prove that she deserves everything and that includes her being a powerhouse solo. Those people don’t even know that both artist are actually complimenting each other.
DA and Charice are amazing singers but my heart belongs to Charice. I’m excited and can’t wait for the release of her album. God bless Charice and family.

Who are these people? But you may be right. Charice doesn’t have to sing with anyone. Heck, she doesn’t even need back-up singers. Just one amazing soloist – the best.

Jimfan, I totally agree with you double the 100%, Charice does not not need anybody to sing with her, all by herself I’ll be entertained.

I love your comments, jimfan, always makes me smile. Charice for sure is an amazing soloist, even winning over the crowd when the band is not at its best (Big E concert). Heck, Charice doesn’t even need a band! NO ONE in acapella was fantastic. Lately, she’s been starting the HALO song in acapella. Here’s her latest performance of Halo, looking very cute and McHappy!
