Unfortunately, one of the basis is the color of their skin. As a filipino person, if your skin is darker, then they would judge you as belonging to a lower class family. Thus you're going to be treated as one. So as a result, nobody wants to be in that position, so up until now everyone especially the filipino women will do everything just to turn their skin white. You know how many beauty products circulating around the Philippines which always has the emphasis of "Skin Whitening"? A lot, relatively almost all of them. So forget about skin tanning lotions over there...It's all about culture... That's why US got the contract first and Philippines becomes second priority, thus proving your point about a big fish that got away. The moment they knew that she signed for a recording contract for Warner Brothers/Reprise records, their alter ego was touched, so they quickly signed her for star records and produced two mediocre albums with only one original song, the other songs were all cover. So now you see how the Philippines screwed up big time, giving away a national treasure...but on the contrary, it was a blessing in disguise for a certain individual who has a pure heart and deserving all the better blessings that may come, which her own country could not provide...
