Charice in David Foster and Friends in San Jose, 11/6/09

Just a day after performing in Southern California, the David Foster and Friends 10-city tour headed to Northern California for their 9th stop at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. Despite the fast pace of the tour, the show continued to impress concert-goers last November 6, 2009. As always, Charice wowed the audience after they eagerly awaited the final songs of the night. To see how truly spectacular Charice’s performance in the show was, we will post videos as they become available.

Note to God
David: “Charice, you are already and you are going to make your country so proud of you in the weeks, years, months ahead… In the true tradition of a diva, which you are becoming in a positive way, you learn from 30 years ago, from 50 years ago, 5 years ago, from Beyonce all the way back to Ella Fitzgerald, and that’s one of the gifts that you have… ”

Bodyguard Medley
David: “Charice! … she is next, without a shadow of a doubt… It’s not my show any more.”

Conversation between David and Charice between songs, with subtitles:
David: “I wanted to say… I’ve never been to the Philippines, but I will be going there in February/March now. But I’ve learned so much about the Philippines culture and these beautiful, warm people. And I swear to you, everywhere I go now, people come up to me, Filipinos, on the street, and they just simply shake my hand and say, ‘Thank you for bringing us Charice,’ out of nowhere, and it’s really stunning. What a warm, warm culture you come from. It’s amazing!”

    A thought very well said.

All CHASTERS, readers and lurkers are totally agreeing with you AmazingCP. The biggest consolation of it all is for Mingsfan to come out and acknowledge that sometimes we make mistakes because we are only human. It is an ultimate reward that anyone could have ever received once we learned from the blinding situation. This will instill a positive feeling for everyone and an exemplary vehicle for us to follow.

After all, we are here to listen to CHARICE’s angelic voice that mesmerizes us all. We are here to witness the POWER of CHARICE spread the humility and love to all through her presence and voice. We are here to listen to her MUSIC when we need to be inspired. When we are feeling lost we use her music to find our self again. When we are angry and mad we seek the compassion and we use CHARICE’S golden voice to direct us the right way.
Yes, we might have different ideas but we are UNITED through THE POWER OF CHARICE!

    Hurrahh Mingsfan!

    PEACE!

      AmazingCP,

I may be feeling a little too “touchy,” but the statement “we chasters are forgiving” could be interpreted to mean that I’m not a chaster. (If this wasn’t your intent, just ignore the following.)

For the record, though,I want to state that (1) I have been a dedicated Chaster for two full years, since the day I first saw Charice on YouTube (before her appearance on Ellen), (2) I have read Charicemania daily since that time, (3) I have searched YouTube for new Charice videos every day since then, (4) I have “cleaned up” & posted 20+ Charice videos to YouTube, spending 100’s of hours doing so (it’s now my “hobby” — sometimes to the dismay of my wife, who feels neglected), and (5) I have been involved in Charice-related activities, some of which I don’t feel comfortable mentioning, to a greater extent than the “typical” Chaster; for example, I have been an administrator of another website dedicated to Charice.

For all of these reasons, I think I qualify as a full-fledged Chaster. :-)

I deeply, sincerely, and profoundly regret my comment. It was inappropriate and offensive. I did not mean to denigrate the exceptional performances of all the other entertainers or their stature as artists. I clearly did so.

I agree that the show was worth every penny paid for it, not only because of Charice’s presence, but also because of the presence of all of the other artists who are of the highest caliber. I felt exactly the same about the DF&F show in Las Vegas. I deeply, deeply regret any implication that I felt otherwise.

My comments never reflected negatively on Charice’s performance. In fact, I stated that her “performance was, as always magnificent.” I regret that I did not say more about her performance, because it was absolutely stellar, astounding, magnificent, worthy of every positive adjective one can imagine — and then some.

I cannot overstate the admiration I have for Charice, not only as a singer but also as a person. I am in awe of Charice’s determination in the face of adversity, commitment to family, humility, and faith in God, to name but a few of her praiseworthy characteristics. Never have I felt more devotion to, or connection with, a performer. I truly believe that Charice is the best singer on the planet and, as Oprah describes her, the most talented girl in the world.

I am ashamed and embarrassed for my comments and ask the forgiveness of all who were offended by them. I request that they be stricken from the record and, in their place, the following entered:

I believed that Charice was going to sing more than three songs. Because she did not, I was disappointed.

I request your forgiveness for having said more.

Why can’t people leave their opinion and not be censured? Mingsfan had been reduced to grovelling and even thanking admin that her OPINION has since been removed! It’s a sad commentary on this day and age that opinions such as those by Mingsfan who I did not find offensive at all will be removed by intolerant people who will not take any comment except if they are glowing praises and huzzas!

As perspective, American teen agers, especially girls are very critical of their idols. They criticize their hair, their make-up, their dress, etc. But when CD buying time comes, they buy and buy some more. That’s just the nature of American fans.

Well, that kind of attitude will not be tolerated on Charicemania, that’s for sure. Only messages of love and devotion will be allowed to filter through. My God!!!

How many Charice fans are on Charicemania? Ten thousand? Fifty thousand? Those kind of numbers will not make Charice’s CD go Golden much less platinum. Wake up Charicemania! There should be free flowing discussion and not every opinion will be to your liking. But if your purpose is for Charice to succeed in American showbiz, you have to be more tolerant.

This comment will be removed in due time, that’s for sure. I don’t care. I’m a Charice fan and I care for her success. As long as those intolerant Admin people sees my comment and realize they are really hurting Charice by their clique-ish attitude and behavior, that’s good enough for me.

      To MultiZony

It’s good to leave comment with good or bad appraisal and criticism in a constructive way. Mingsfan was completely out of line when he/she called out this website to be the source of his/her own blunders. I wonder where he/she read that source.

Mingsfan also castigated the management out of frustration from nowhere (too little song) by declaring Foster and Charice unpreparedness and odd choice of song when people asked for more. Again, it’s good to leave an opinion if you are in the right context and not initiating and grumbling senseless point of views. It’s pointless to even bring how much you have spent for that night when it’s clearly the $150 is almost a giveaway considering David Foster, the legendary and 15 times Grammy award winner is performing live. Not to mention the long line ups of multi-awarded, highly talented David Foster Friends are in for the treats and let alone CHARICE sang 4 powerful ballads plus the Finale song.

Smart opinions and comments that are making sense are always welcoming and uplifting. If your comments are not smart of course you become unpopular. If you hold your ground instead of apologizing you will become unpopular even more. If you think you are right even its wrong that’s not a smart opinion therefore you become twice more unpopular in the sense that you catch everyone’s attention in a negative way.

I felt I have to respond to your comment to remind you of what we have read earlier were blown out of proportion and to point that all the fans have positively responded to Mingsfan by sharing their priceless experience during that night. Not once have I read a remark like that and it’s so sad that even the management has been pointed finger at. I hope that I did the same encouragement and explanation although I just browse, read and learned CHARICE’s activities through this website 90% at the time and 10% on reading YouTube video comments.

Of course there’s always a rule but I believe CHARICEMANIA has been always forgiving to its users. That’s why even your posting has been tolerated even though you are instigating the whole crew to remove it from here. That’s clearly a sign of rebellious attitude. But it’s not bad enough to offend Charice and Management and true to it that your comments stays but they can’t let it happened that CHARICEMANIA will let the previous comment of Mingsfan stick on the wall that CHARICE and MANAGEMENT will question the site of letting fans create derogative remarks towards them.

I’ve been witnessing free for all discussion here since the site started. A rule is a rule; offending remarks will not be tolerated. Mingsfan was so thankful her/his comments was removed because she/he realized how awful he/she had been delivering those words. And don’t worry, CHARICEMANIA is just a portion of Charice’s fans that adore her golden and angelic voice and let alone her positive personality. I will tell you this; her album will turn into GOLD, PLATINUM.

      PEACE!

FYI – Charice’s version of God Bless America is a David Foster arrangement specifically done for Celine Dion who sang it for a TV special a couple of weeks after 9/11. San Jose was also the last USA stop and that was a fitting tribute to the country that made it possible for several “foreigners” on the tour to be where they are today. Like they say, to become a certified international artist, one has to make it in America. The DF version ends with “it’s OUR home, sweet home”. It’s now home for some foreign artists on the show, including David Foster himself, who has lived in America for several years. They’ve all been successful in their own right in the US and for Americans to have embraced them, that makes America their “home”. For me, it was their way of thanking America, delivered by Charice. I would have killed to hear Charice sing it at Gibson, but we weren’t so lucky.

    to mingsfan,
I know that you are an ardent and loyal fan of charice for I see your “name” consistently making comments in CM as well as on some of her YT videos. Remember, the concert is appropriately titled, “David Foster and Friends” and Charice is just one of the “friends”. For David to make Charice the finale performer is an honor by itself. I’ve watched Charice live in the Mandalay Bay DF & F and the one in Gibson Ampitheater. I am from Anaheim, Ca so just the Mandalay Bay concert alone would entail a whole bunch of other expenses. I brought with me 4 companions whose tickets I paid for. This LA concert, I had 3 companions, and again I paid for their tickets. But guess what? I never felt cheated, it was all worth it. I was just feeling a little left out just now because I wanted to hear Charice sing God Bless America which she did in San Jose (well, it was an encore, I understand). Be that as it may, just to be able to listen to all DF’s friends, like Peter Cetera, Paul Anka, Brian McNight, D. Cox and our dear Charice was worth every dollar I paid. BTW, the Canadian Tenors were awesome. Thanks DF for a concert that was really worth every hard earned dollar that we spent. More power Charice and David Foster. BTW, I am a Fil-Am but I get so moved by GBA that i always tear up when I listen to it. America has been very good to me and my family. I love you AMERICA.

      manang babes,

OK. I give. My implication that the ticket price paid only for Charice was out-of-line, as was my failure to give well-earned praise to the other talented performers. I believe that my original comment has, thankfully, been removed.

I have since tried to qualify my remarks by saying, if you wanted to see Charice, the only way to do so (well, not any more) is as part of the DF & F tour. And, for one of the best seats, you have to pay $150. Of course, this gives you not just Cha but all of DF’s Friends — a valuable “bonus.” But right now there’s no way to see Charice by herself.

I still think that three songs were too few. This opinion is not unfounded. Just two weeks ago, CM ran an article from Asian Journal, which states, “Charice is expected to sing between four to five songs, including her hit single Note to God, which she debuted on Oprah a few months ago. Of course, her The Bodyguard medley will be there, as well as the Celine Dion power ballad Power of Love.” http://www.charicemania.com/2009/10/23/editorial/all-systems-go-david-foster-friends-kicks-off-10-city-us-canada-tour/

Finally, I was born in New York and love GBA, too — not to mention America the Beautiful and the Star Spangled Banner. I have no dispute regarding the majesty and beauty of these pieces. I only wanted to make two points. First, Foster and Charice — to me at least — seemed caught off guard by the audience’s insistence for an encore. Second, God Bless America just struck me as a very odd (I’ll refrain from using “bizarre”) choice, given all of the songs that Foster has penned and Charice knows inside and out.

I hope that I have succeeded in at least partially extracting my foot from my mouth.

(By the way, soy hijo — no hija. :-) )

      To Mingsfan,

      First
The title says it all, David Foster and Friends. This is David Foster’s entourage and Charice just happened to be one of them. If we are smart enough, there’s none I’ve seen where it says that this is CHARICE’s solo tour. I often peek at charicemania website and read comments through you tube videos. If you read that from other people’s comments why blame it on the website! I learned that this is David Foster and Friends tour through this website, so don’t use this as an excuse! Just try to be smarter next time!

      Secondly,
If yours or other attendees purpose were to be there just to see Charice, keep that notion to your selves because there were other performers scheduled to deliver their acts as well. This show has been designed to showcase David’s songs and achievements through out his career by reliving the past thru multi-talented and multi-awarded artists. Charice’s role is to remind us Celine’s and Whitney’s songs with her as the headliner she sings 3 to 4 songs compare to others who have sung 1 or 2. If you watched all their performances from each cities, you will see David saying, “I can’t think of anyone in this planet who can deliver this song better than you” referring to Bodyguard Medley. Some artists who recorded their songs 20 years ago were present and performed it themselves. Part of the platform was to deliver these sequences in 10 cities therefore most of the acts were repeats with the modification of few songs depending on the cities where they are at for example, New York City where the 9/11 have occurred. The national anthem was a must for CHARICE to deliver to relay the message and give respect to the City, people and lives that affected by this tragedy. Charice performed this song during the President’s pre-inauguration and proved that she has the perfect voice to compliment the act.

      Finally,
The people who reminded David Foster that they were there for one reason only, to witness CHARICE perform and wanting some more gave way by acknowledging that CHARICE must come back for the final song. Although, this is “HIS SHOW” he even acknowledged in one occasion that this has become CHARICE’s show. He has all the control of this show and just previously people begged CHARICE to sing for more but he addressed the crowd that the best thing to do is to bring everyone to perform to end the night. You should be thankful and more appreciative of what he has done (management) that he let CHARICE sang one more song that night when you were there! Again, the National Anthem was chosen because David felt that this is yet another successful night and the best way to give back to the people and to America, the land as he said, this is my country (David was born in Canada), your country (Charice is from Philippines), our country (to fellow Americans in the group and people from all over) the land of the free as he adapted that gave him abundance where it’s happening to CHARICE. When you “dig deep” which I think you are more than educated enough, there’s no bizarre situation there. Everything is completely right in the context. And David is perfectly genius about it!

      In closing,
The $150 that you paid for was to see David Foster and Friends entourage and I repeat, Charice just happened to be one of them. To be honest, that $150 is not enough for what you have paid for. If you were there to see CHARICE and she sang 4 songs and paid $80 per live, you should have paid $320. Just imagine you even had the privilege to see other performers let’s say, $10 for each. You clearly owed more money than what you have paid for not counting to see the legendary David Foster play the piano! Because that is priceless! If I were you, I should have been embarrassed to even complain on anything when it comes to money! Other people are dying to see CHARICE and they don’t even care how many she sings and it’s stringed enough to hear this from you!

      Finally,
you need to educate your self more about the Tour. You need to be smarter because a real CHASTER who have previously attended her performances never complained about how much they have paid but we always witnessed how much have they paid were worth the moments. And never compare the Big-E, which was engineered to promote a free concert for CHARICE and has all the time to her self singing more songs compare to the show you attended where numbers of people were there to perform with her on the stage! You should be thankful to management for allowing CHARICE to have a free concert and the up loaders who shared their undying support to our benefits.

      PEACE!

I wasn’t going to post anything but after reading @mingsfan’s comment, I’ll also give my two-cents…. more like $350.

I was so excited to find out that San Jose would be a stop for the DF&F Tour, knowing Charice would be one of the guests, I bought two tickets within the first two hours it was on sale . I was able to get floor row 6 tickets. I almost bought the pre-sale ticket package offered by PBS KQED. I figured if her album would be coming out in October, she’d sing her new songs.

Since my friend couldn’t make it, I had to get a substi-date. My ‘hot date’ was none other than 8yerhartawt. On the day of the concert, I couldn’t concentrate, I was finally going to hear and meet Charice in person! I kept thinking what to say & do at the Meet & Greet. I thought of a few things to say and I planned to take a picture of Charice.

I arrived 15min before 7pm, met up with 8yerhartawt and rushed in. Going to our seats, I noticed that it was full, in spite of the large venue. We found our seats and I thought,” 10,000+ seats and we have to right beside the security guys!” The seats around us were empty but were later filled when they arrived late (after the show started).

The concert. All the guest were very good. I’m sure DF noticed the crowd that he made several filipino comments. In fact, the four tenors said some filipino words. During the concert, 8Yerhartawt and I were busy taking videos, pics and tweeting… Keeping the worldwide chasters up-to-date. The surprises of the evening were Clay Aikeen and one of the namedrop contestants, 17-yr old KC dela cruz, who sang very well. I think, Peter Cetera had the most songs. I was worried Charice was getting tired since the last few shows were reduced to 3 songs.

The main event. All the lights were dimmed and the crowd started cheering. Just hearing the first notes, you go “Wow!” (I couldn’t since I was recording, I had to bite my tongue). So much better Live!
After the Power of Love, some people stood up and clapped. “What is wrong with these people?!! That was an awesome performance!” So hard to please. During her performance, I had goosebumps galore that I had a hard time holding my phone steady. After the 3rd and last song, The BM, the crowd all stood up and roar filled the stadium, I go “Finally!” The applause kept getting louder and louder and went on for sometime until she came back out. She sang GBA… OMG! What a rendition! Another standing O. I didn’t mind the songs, I just wanted to hear her voice. Now, I know what all the hype about Charice is. She is that good.

The Meet & Greet. I was worried that it would be a free-for-all like some of the videos I saw but this one was organized and orderly. My heart beat faster waiting in line that finally, I’m going to meet Charice. Everyone in line had something to sign, I looked at 8yerhartawt, “Do you have anything?” No. We were late and didn’t have time to buy any merchandise. We both checked our pockets. Any paper? No. How about our shirts? No. Anything else? Don’t go there!

Finally, we were up. They asked if we were together. I said No! I’m seeing Charice alone so I went first. I saw her sitting by the table smiling and all I could say was “Hi!…” and I just stood there for a few seconds, I forgot everything. I was quickly ushered to go beside her for a picture, she softly said said “That looks familiar” referring to my avatar. I was surprised she knew. She must read everyone’s comments and tweets. I was speechless again. I was really happy to meet her but I ever have another chance, I’ll do better next time and bring something to sign!

Overall it was a great night! But considering the price, I would have rather flown to the Big E and watched her solo concert. At the big E, i thought she was going to be one of the guests and not just her.
Everyone has been commenting on her performance they see on YT, her clothes, her song selection, etc. The only ones who should be allowed to complain are those who have paid to see the show at least twice and not just watched partial YT clips. One of the reasons why videotaping is prohibited.

I hope to see another Charice (solo) concert in the future!

Hehe! Sorry Noellen, I was just busy this weekend. I wrote it quickly before heading out. The lack of sleep watching and waiting for Charice videos doesn’t help either.

All the other Foster guests entered from stage left without fanfare. Only Charice entered center stage, lights dimmed, appearing with bright lights behind her, like an emerging star. DF did say that they are under time constraints.

At first, I thought that Charice, being a minor, her performances were limited by child labor laws but I found out minors in entertainment are exempt.

The million dollar question is: “Was the show worth it?” Of course! Duh!!

I dont disagree that she probably is the headllining act, and that therefore she should sing more songs. at the same time, the show is three hours, and for 150$ you’re seeing the other artists as well. so you’re not only seeing 3 songs for 150$. Perhaps, the tour manager also limits her songs for several other reasons, to save her voice because she’s been doing all those charities and she plans to do more charities, and perhaps re-cord. Maybe it’s also a question of having do we also have to over pay her if she performs much to much –because she’s getting huge no? So who knows…

IT could be a lot of things.

I was there last night @ HP Pavilion seated in floor 2 Row 14 with my 2 friends. That was spectacular ! Charice never fails to amazed me , even if i already watched her last May in Mandalay . I just regret not been able to go to the Meet and Greet because we’re in the waiting list and they won’t allow beyond 55 persons . She looked very tired but still smiling all throughout . What a night to remember !!!
