MANILA – As she continues to take the United States by storm, international singing sensation Charice has been offered by legendary composer David Foster to stay there for good. It was a tempting offer but Charice opted to pass up the chance to move to the US. After all, her heart remains in the Philippines.
Whenever she could, Charice would fly back to the country. If she’s not fulfilling commitments here, she would spend quiet times in Tagaytay where she bought a 400-square-meter property.
Recently, the “Note to God” singer sat down with abs-cbnNEWS.com to talk about her Tagaytay sanctuary. She shared how she discovered her two-storey “mini-mansion” and why she instantly fell in love with it. Charice also invited abs-cbnNEWS.com inside her dream house where she toured the staff.
Celebrity Sanctuary: Charice Pempengco’s Mini Mansion
abs-cbnNEWS.com: Ilang bedrooms mayroon ang “mini-mansion” mo?
[How many bedrooms does your mini-mansion have?]
[There are 3 bedrooms upstairs, one also for the maid and a guest room. So the total is 5 bedrooms.]
abs-cbnNEWS.com: Kailan mo nakita ang dream house mo?
[When did you see your dream house?]
Charice: Hindi kami naghahanap.
[We were not looking. We went to Tagaytay for a vacation because I liked the weather. We just happened to chance upon it during our vacation; I just saw it. Then when I did, I just had that feeling that I liked it. And this is also the dream of my mom to have our own house. So this is what she got from me as my mother's day gift to her.]
abs-cbnNEWS.com: Bakante ba ito noong nakita niyo at kailan kayo lumipat?
[Was this vacant when you saw it and when did you move in?]
Charice: Opo bakante po. Nakalipat po kami nitong July 6.
[Yes, it was vacant. We moved in July 6.]
abs-cbnNEWS.com: Ano ang nagustuhan mo at bakit mo binili ang bahay?
[What did you like about it and why did you buy the house?]
[It´s because it´s like in America. It´s simple; the bricks on the wall made it look elegant. Then the surroundings here in Tagaytay are beautiful. The pine trees make me feel as if I´m in America.]
[Who is responsible for the interior design?]
Charice: Nagpa-tulong siya (Mommy Raquel). Pero all in all, si mommy. Fashion designer si mommy so alam niya.
[My Mommy Raquel had help, but all in all, it's her. My mom's a fashion designer, so she knows how.]
[Who chose all your things and where were they bought?]
[We bought them here. Mommy chose them and she was also responsible in arranging them.]
[Did you contribute on the design of the house?]
[My room. I chose the color of my room and the things in it.]
abs-cbnNEWS.com: Anong favorite place mo sa iyong bahay?
[What's your favorite place here in your house?]
[I actually don't go out of my room. I just told my mom that my favorite colors are white and blue and that they should combine that. So, my mom is the one in charge of buying our things.]
abs-cbnNEWS.com: Nasaan ang piano mo?
[Where's your piano?]
[We haven't bought a piano yet. What I want is a grand piano.]
[Is this where you always stay? In your mini-mansion?]
[It depends because I also have a condo in Paranaque. If I have an ASAP ´09 guesting, we stay there. But if I don´t have to go to ASAP, we stay here. I always hang out there on the swing, with my laptop or jamming on my guitar.]

It’s good to have a place in the US. but can you blame Charice for wanting to live in the Philippines. The Philippines will always be home for Charice, there are Filipinos who live abroad who consider the Philippines home as well, like my cousin, who lives and works in Hong Kong, but still retains his Philippine pass port. Or my aunt in the US, who at 68 after living in the US since 1967, still retains her PHilippine pass port and a home in the Philippines. Charice has the luxury of working in the US and owning property in the US, while
also calling PHilippines home and living there..when all the work is done. Good for Charice. SHe’s the essence of a Filipina.

Charice looks so happy and proud of her home. What a feat not a regular 17-year old can do– being able to have the financial power at a very young age to buy such a beautiful home for her family. Good for you, Cha!
We’re happy for you and we love you!

Hi! Charice, congratulations on your new house, that’s a good investment for your future security, this is the best time to invest on real estate properties while you’re still very much in demand and earning good, also why not invest a house in US as well, think about it when you save enough for your US property investment, even only for a townhouse unit in California to start with. We love you Charice that’s why were here to give you some idea for your future sake when the final curtain call comes. Cheers!

Hello Charice,
I really think that you should invest in real state here in America. It will not be bad to buy a house in LA Or NY. It would be a good tax break. The more money you earn, the higher tax to pay. Here in the good US of A you’re required to pay Uncle Sam some of those earnings because if you don’t pay tax then it will be tax evation. Big trouble. That is probably why these big Hollywood stars have houses everywhere, for tax break purposes. Think about it.
Anyway, good luck to all your endeavors and may God Bless you and your family. More blessings to come, pray always.
Congratulations on your new mini mansion. It is a very beautiful home.

This is in Portuguese(Brazil). For those who cannot wait for a better translation, here is an initial rough online translation I did. Not perfect but quite understandable. Kindly improve on this Bakero and Carla or anyone who knows Portuguese.

thank you for the quick online translation, Hollyhock, chasters are always so thirsty for immediate information, lol. It is indeed quite understandable and I might even call it eloquent.
Some further attempts: the first sentence ‘carreira ta crecsendo’ probably says your “career is soaring;” todos = everyone, all; prtas = doors (portals?) are opening for you; ir = to be (around the world); lingua = language instead of tongue; respeito = respect? instead of compliance; pais = country; Deus bless you = God Bless you.
and btw, there is also a new 3-part video tour of Charice’s home and SNN interview in the Featured Stories section. Click the HOME PAGE and look at the banner for “A Peek at Charice’s Tagatay Dreamhouse”

Correct translation (God, those online translators are so awful lol!):
“My flower, you have to stay where your work demands…your career is growing, your fame, you are growing, and that’s the dream for everybody, to be someone in life! Doors are opening for you everywhere, and whatever they are, you need to go. Be it in EUROPE, ASIA, AFRICA, SOUTH AMERICA, CENTRAL AMERICA, etc.
It will be difficult for you to have a permantent residence, but i think you should have a house in the United States, and other in the Phillipines, because there it’s your land, your people, your roots, your language!!!
It’s not living in the Phillipines that will prove your love for your country, but the respect you’ll show for Filipinos all over the world, your proud in being Filipina, and the attention and charity that you’ll give.
Promote the beauties of your contry, his culture, language, food, the people’s humility, the willing to fight in face of nature’s fury and nurture the joy of the filipino people in having you as their simbol.
God bless you, your family and everyone around you. Stay with God!
