Performing before a small crowd of 2000 at Boston’s Agganis Arena, Charice nevertheless gives her usual 110%, inspiring this review of her performance from the venerable Boston Herald: “Charice is still at work on her debut album, but she already has all the trappings of a star: one name, well-timed arm pumps and a voice that does justice to songs originally tackled by Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, including “I Will Always Love You” and “Power of Love,” respectively. Besides drawing a standing ovation, her performance – inspired for any age but especially so at 17 – had the seasoned Foster in awe, exclaiming “My God!” from his perch behind the piano.”
Also worthwhile is this eyewitness report from a chaster who shares this concert experience in CM’s ‘Reflections’ page. Boston writes:

“I came from the Boston concert and went straight to my computer to share my experience. I was able to get a 7th row seat right at the center of the stage … whooooaaahhh. The crowd is probably 10 to 20% Filipino, most of the audiences are americans. The only standing ovation of the night (and was long) was right after Charice sang the bodyguard medley. What surprised me really is that, a lot of people around knew her…all I am definitely sure are not Filipinos. I can’t see Filipinos from where I was at in the first place. They were all amazed by her….there was even one lady who just sang along with her all the time with matching beating of her hands…nice beautiful night… ”

Please visit her YouTube channel at TheJannie5 to find other songs from the concert at Rosemont Theater since DF is changing up the song selection a little at each concert. Richard Marx was the special guest at Chicago and I especially enjoyed his performance of his hit song “Right Here Waiting” and Deborah Cox’s performance of “Through the Fire.”

By Lauren Carter / Music Review: David Foster and Friends, The Boston Herald
JAMMIN’ WITH HIS FRIENDS
The award for coolest friends definitely goes to David Foster. The songwriter-producer has some of the most celebrated artists in the music business on his speed dial, and he’s rounded up a handful for a 10-city tour that stopped at the Agganis Arena last night. During the nearly three-hour experience, the Hit Man acted as host, pianist and band conductor while unveiling some of his career highlights to a small crowd of about 2,000.
“I’ve written a lot of music,” Foster said in the night’s biggest understatement. “I’m kind of getting tired of myself. No I’m not, that’s not true at all.”
In some cases, Foster brought out the artists he’d helped to write hits for: Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire performed the Foster co-written hit “After the Love Has Gone” as well as the explosive “September.” Peter Cetera belted out ballads from his days as a member of Chicago, including the Foster co-written “You’re the Inspiration” and “Hard to Say I’m Sorry.”
In other cases Foster called out up-and-comers to cover songs written for more established acts. “American Idol” alum Michael Johns took on John Parr’s “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion)”; fellow “Idol” star Ruben Studdard served up some soul with a cover of Al Jarreau’s “Mornin’.” Up-and-comer Cody Carey doubled as Josh Groban on “You Raise Me Up,” while Deborah Cox channeled Toni Braxton on the Foster-produced “Un-Break My Heart.” The Canadian Tenors – reduced from a foursome to a trio for the night – belted out Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
Even Foster’s three backup singers got some shine during a performance of Barbra Streisand’s hit “Somewhere.” And tossing in a surprise, Foster called out Wrentham native and “Idol” finalist Ayla Brown to perform the Cheryl Lynn disco hit “Got To Be Real,” co-written by Foster.
But the night was as much about putting megahits on display as unveiling new talent, including local talent search finalists Gordon Michaels and 16-year-old Mia Boostrum, along with 17-year-old Filipino sensation Charice.
Charice is still at work on her debut album, but she already has all the trappings of a star: one name, well-timed arm pumps and a voice that does justice to songs originally tackled by Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, including “I Will Always Love You” and “Power of Love,” respectively. Besides drawing a standing ovation, her performance – inspired for any age but especially so at 17 – had the seasoned Foster in awe, exclaiming “My God!” from his perch behind the piano.

jimfan155,
I understand your sentiment and disappointment.
But then again, 2000 seats in Boston, Massachusetts is not bad considering it could have been only 80% sold out as the other 10% Pinoys would be no-show if Charice wasn’t there. True, there could have been more Pinoys (and more others, too) but, really, we do not know DF’s (and the other performers’) clout in Boston, right?
And yes, perhaps this is not DF & Friends’ demographic section of the USA. Much like if a rapper performs in the southern USA versus in LA or NY. But you are right, there is still much work to do to attain that much coveted diva stature for Charice.
But not to be disheartened, even Celine Dion or Shania Twain (both Canadians) did not have immediate success in the beginning of their career in the USA.
Remember what David Foster (also a Canadian) said in the GMA interview and I quote,”……as Canadians, we have to work twice as hard to be taken half as much by the Americans…..” How much work do you think it would take for a Filipina to be taken at par in the USA (never mind half as much)? This is not a cake walk, my friend. And Pinoys should know that by now, especially those ‘few crabs’ that are incessantly bickering, making the transition and process more difficult for “THE ONE” to succeed.
Thus, akin to your thoughts, I have a feeling that there might be a European and Asian tour, including PI, by DF (and others) with Charice before the release of the first album next year to solidify and ensure its success. We all know that, logistics play a very important role in this endeavor, meaning…purchasing power of the fans and supporters. The fans and supporters must buy.. and buy some more… of the CDs and album to get to that ‘magic number’ of sales. And world sales can beat any one singular country sales.
To this end, I believe that the Pinoy fans who, mostly, may not be able to attend to these concerts like the 7M OFCWs scattered everywhere in the world, will be more than helpful in “delivering the goods”, so to speak, because of their endearment to Charice and as a ‘kababayan’.
So, I am a bit disappointed, too but, I am not worried because as they say….. “in life, it usually gets worse before it gets better”… (and I am keeping my fingers crossed).
Besides, this is only one concert out of ten and the previous three were stupendous. Hey, cheer up, we may lose some battle(s) but we will win the war !!

The Agganis Arena is not a huge venue, it’s an arena of Boston University, its capacity is about a little over 2000. If DF and his production chose a bigger venue it will still sold-out. I guess it’s not a question of the show being a hit in Boston but a question of the capacity of the venue they chose. Maybe other venues much bigger aren’t available on that particular night. Those who were able to get tickets and watched the show were lucky, they got to experience the show and Charice up close, much more intimate setting.
