It was a moving moment of the evening when everyone stood up as CHARICE sings ‘God Bless America’ in a special tribute to the people of New York. This rendition was especially arranged by David Foster for a television broadcast that aired 9 days after that tragic event, and was originally sang by Celine Dion.
CHARICE SINGING ‘GOD BLESS AMERICA’
Charice is given a rousing standing ovation by the full house capacity crowd of 5,600. Many in the audience were moved to tears according to eyewitness reports, and David Foster himself appears stunned and emotional as he says, “Charice, that was spectacular. That is not an easy arrangement to sing, believe me, and you just hit it over the bar.”
OPENING SONG: POWER OF L O V E
Charice again is the highlight of the show as she performs as the last guest singer of the concert. David Foster introduces Charice as “the next one” and mentions that Oprah and her Executive Producer, Lisa Erspamer, are in the audience that night.

CHARICE SINGING ‘NOTE TO GOD’
As Charice introduces her second song with David Foster accompanying on the piano, David says “it’s a thrill for me to see this legacy continue and there is no doubt about where you are going… My career now rests in the hands of a 17-year old.” Charice says, “But you know what, I’m very proud that I’m a Foster child.”
BODYGUARD MEDLEY: I HAVE NOTHING & I WILL ALWAYS L O V E YOU
For Charice’s third number, David Foster mentions “Charice is making an album and it’s a spectacular album. It’s gonna be sensational. We’re not doing any music from that album, but this’ll probably be the last time that you’ll be singing my songs. But I sure appreciate you doing this because you bring such life to them.”

For those who have seen Charice perform live and want to see her again; For those who have not seen her live performance and would like to experience a magical and heavenly feeling when you see her perform live, make sure you are still alive when that opportunity comes. Get SWINE FLU VACCINE! Kmart started selling coffins! Don’t be one of those whose mom or dad will buy a coffin for. Rather, have them buy tickets from ticket master for Charice live performance.

I think you have to ban me for a week or two, because I can’t stop commenting about Charice’s, I mean DF’s concert at the WaMu Theater. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better Amazing CP posted on of Deborah Cox’ videos together with Charice and a little furry dog, she named Porsche.
I believe I gave her that dog that night and now it’s on video forever. Here’s the link. I think I’m on cloud 9, 10, and 11.

It is only now I realize I spent most of my pre concert time with Lou6410. He’s such a gentleman from Hawaii and was lucky to also see DF and Friends in Chicago. While he had a good seat here about 5 rows in front of me, second tier, he was in the 3rd row, down front then and told me he had his movie camera, also. Having his battery on his lap and getting ready, I believe every one arose when DF came out and when Lou stood up the battery fell from his lap never to be seen again; even after the concert with all the lights on. Thus, no videos from Lou from that concert. I can only imagine how great those would have been seeing the quality of these.
Lou knows Scubajoe, a personal friend of Charice and inroduced me to Scuba and we spoke about Charice for a bit. He said Charice loves to get her rest, so when I saw the interview when she appeared the next morning on the CBS Early Show, it just demonstrated what a professional she is. Without her proper rest to sing before 8:00am, she sounded amazing as she belted Note to God. Wow. I would like to see anyone sing better live than Charice at any time, any where. I think she could make an album in one night “Charice – Live” and it would be a hit. Forget the studio, as I like the raw emotion of her live performances. Ah, here I go again.
Anyway thanks Lou6410. Hope you get a picture with her soon. You deserve it as a true Chaster. Much luck to you and your family.

Hi jimfan155, I also spoke to lou6410 after the concert, you’re right he such a gentleman. he told me he was going to all of the 10 venues, so I hope he’ll be able to videotape all of them. I guess if they are not uploaded yet it may be for lack of time or access to computer.
And, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for the pictures, especially the one when she smile and look at me. I had no idea a tresor like that was out there. Jim you’re a hell of a great photographer. I owe you a very good dinner. Your choice…
Is there a way I can upload it in charicemania so that everybody can have a look at her beautiful smile?

Hello & a big hug to all co-chasters !!!
Just like to comment about jessie and jimfa155 pieces. Both have their own points and i believe that with the combination of your voices will gain a harmonious effect to our beloved Charice. Meaning, if Charice choices to greet her fellow countrymen then why not at one point greet her unweavering supporters of Americans, other Asians, Canadians, etc. etc. At least there are two sides of the coin being shot. Or just maybe, Charice can start by saying thank u to all her supporters/fans. Then if countries are mentioned, at least she should name also the other countries to which especially who are watching there (or where the event is). Balance outlook is the best solution “i guess”. Just my opinion.
But, i’m really very very very happy that she sang “God bless America”. She took me on a level of being a patriotic. Just like Oprah & Bono of U2 said something like this “America is an idea of all possibilities of being one race and being free”.

the video where the guitar guy gets the chills is on Power of Love at 2:27 (Lou6410 video), thanks begoodenblues. All of Lou6410 videos are now posted at the bottom of the article as well as jim155fan videos. I love the close-ups for watching the reactions of David Foster and others on the stage. You could clearly see DF so moved by Charice when she finished singing God Bless America (LantaoIslands version). Now reports are in by Lola-Elrem that many in the audience were weeping, Charice is that good. She feels the song, she becomes the song as someone else has already said.
I like the other videos also that show the whole stage and show Charice’s whole body shots and gestures and steps as she moves across the stage, owning it, mesmerizing all who watch her. Her stage presence is incredible. Her rising star is undeniable as DF says. That’s why I like to compare her to Michael Jackson, another stage natural. To watch Charice and listen to her powerful singing is to fall in love with her. I have the DVD of MJ’s LIVE CONCERT in Budapest, Hungary, that was simply amazing when he performed there at the peak of his popularity, I think 1993.
With Charice’s persona and charisma, she has the same potential to fill stadiums in international concert arenas everywhere. Just a matter of time. 2010 is going to be another big year for her, then Grammies in 2011, then omg I’m so excited for her. The sky’s the limit (Lionel Richie quote) and more. wheeeeeeeee……
Another thing I noticed is she doesn’t even have a record out yet (I mean a serious, professional one) and she already has dozens of fan sites. Now if you “google” her name this is what you get:

Etc…etc…etc.about 18,129,700.00 not bad at all for someone who doesn’t even have a record out on the international market yet.
I guess just with that fact alone she would give goosebumps (without even singing a note) to a lot of businessmen. Oprah & David Foster are not dumb, they know very well that they’ve hit the jackpot with Charice. She’s the “MONA LISA” of the entertainment world, I mean she’s priceless…
Think of it (no disrespect to anyone mentioned here):
- Whitney Houston and Celine Dion have great voices but they can’t dance, also as they’re aging they don’t appeal so much anymore to the younger generation.
_ Madonna and Britney Spears can dance very well but they can’t really sing, plus they’re losing their momentum, too many scandals = bad role models.
- Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera both have great voices and can dance but they don’t really appeal to all ages, plus both have very unique voices so they can’t really compete with each other.
- Now we’ve got Miley Cyrus and who else in that teen category…, they appeal to the younger generation only and there’s no way they can compete with Charice on the vocals level.
- Charice on the contrary has incredible pipes, can dance, appeal to all generations (kids love her as much as grown-ups and in between), she’s a superb role model because she’s very down to earth (thanks to her mother Mommy Racquel), and she’s got the best agent, producer, management team in the world. And to top that she’s so adorable you want to pinch her cheeks…
That’s all I have to say, I don’t know if anybody agrees with me, please let me know.
God bless Charice and her family, David Foster, Oprah, Lisa E., her manager Marc, Ellen DeGeneres, and especially FalseVoice without whom none of what we’re all experiencing right now would have ever happened…

Someone in another article had the same concerns you have. Here is my explanation as I was at the WaMu Theater.
Actually, Charice was the last performer and it was David Foster who asked early on in the concert “Are there any Filipinos here?”
And he kept making Filipino references several times even before Charice came out. When she finally came out and said it was like singing to family in a living room, DF agreed, I think meaning because of the many Filipinos in the audience; which prompted Charice to playfully respond “ok, I’m Filipino, Filipino.
I am a non-Filipino and I laughed at the banter and I have never been offended by her mentioning her nationality. Now this is just my personal opinion but one reference does not bother me one iota. Of course if she constantly did this in a concert I can see where one could have feelings of exclusion. But she has never crossed that line, as far as I’m concerned.
In addition, I was there to listen to one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard. If it happens to come out of a petite Filipino that’s ok with me. Trust me I left with no goosebumps left, some tears rolling down my cheeks, and a memories that will last a lifetime. I choose to come away with so many positive memories that there is no room left for any negatives. I hung out prior to the concert with fellow Chasters who were mostly Filipinos. I did not feel excluded in the least and I feel like I have 40 new Filipino friends.
If you listen to her singing God Bless America, that alone included everyone in the audience and the standing ovation and tears from people of all nationalities brought us together as one; and this from a non-American. Her respect for the song and her emotional performance brought us together and I don’t think her mentioning she was Filipino divided us at all.
Again, I just speak for myself.

Americans are objective people. They went there to see the performance of the DF team; were very appreciative to the point that they also formed part as participants, with their clapping, giggling and dancing. I believe that JIMFAN155’s and LOLA ELREM’s comments are worth reading and coloring them in yellow with positive recommendations.

Hello Jessie,I agree with you that she doesn’t have to mention it but Jimfan155 has a point and a credible one since he is not offended being a non filipino. If non-filipinos are okay with it then this should not be an issue.

And finally as I was leaving with my guest, standing outside waiting for the rain to stop a bit, Charice reappeared briefly behind the glass doors to the outside of the venue playfully trying to come out to greet her remaining fans one more time, to no avail. She then re-appeared waving from a black SUV on 33rd street. This was one of the best evening I had that I will cherish and remember for a long time. I can’t wait for her next concert which I will certainly attend no matter what…
By the way I leave in New Jersey but originally am from France, and a lot of french people also know about Charice, they kind of compare her to “Edith Piaf” which, trust me, is an exceptional compliment…

WOW CHARICE, beautiful singing of God Bless America. Not only did 9/11 bring Americans the feeling of bonding and patriotism, I can recall the same feeling when the Gulf War started or when we celebrate the 4th of July each year. Charice’s powerful version hit home all people deep inside their hearts. God bless Charice, America and the World. Peace be with you.

Lola Elrem…I am glad you had a great time and I hope your fleeting love affair (as you claimed….lol) with David Foster will last in your lifetime of fond memories. I got to say you Canadians are nice to have as neighbors! Many of your talents come here to the US and realized their dreams….David Foster, Paul Anka, Celine, Michael Buble, Bryan Adams, Avril Lavigne, Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette, Anne Murray. Now, from Asia, Charice is following their paths. The world will not be the same without them enriching our lives.

Haha! I know how it feels when negativity or maybe hurt and dejected feelings try to suppress and prevent us from declaring our true feelings. We are naturally talkative people much like a simple container when over filled will inevitably have to spill out the excess. It is fun also to sit by the fence and throw in some comment every now and then. I noticed, this way is a bit more detached but close enough to make your voice heard. Not that it really matters, but a few kind Chasters will oblige some response. I love and am happy to see, the profoundness of some and their genuine concern for Charice every so often.

I admire your compassion and empathy for those of us who feel that sentiment so thoughtfully commemorated by David and the concert group, honoring us Americans who, in some way or another have been saddened by the 9/11 incident. Just watching and hearing the videos of that MSG concert made me cry, waking me up with a reminder that I am an American too.
Again, thank you for sharing your wonderful experience and thoughtful insights. More power to you, David Foster and Charice. Truly, GOd Bless America, for so many things.

As I sat in WAMU, I first wondered if the theatre would be full??? But lo! it was a sold-out gig! and I quietly thanked God for that. And we pleasurably watched David Foster as he ran back through the times, reminiscing the hit songs he created, produced and collaborated with from way back.
Then the NEXT ONE, the UNDENIABLE, the GIFT FROM GOD, the MOST TALENTED GIRL IN THE WORLD, Oprah’s Protégé, and David’s Newest Baby == our 17-year old Charice walked into centre-stage. I cried uncontrollably while her powerful voice filled the whole theatre. I heard some non-pinoys gasped, “Is she really the one singing??” “She’s so tiny, where did that voice come from?””. There was standing O’s after standing O’s.
As a tribute to the 3,000 souls that perished in 9/11, David Foster fittingly arranged God Bless America for Charice to sing. It was the most heart-rending, the chilliest, and the most spiritual rendition of GBA I ever heard. The audience stood up and cried as Charice’s beautiful GBA touched the patriotic nerve of our American cousins; and although a Canadian, I equally felt that patriotic spirit.
The Meet and Greet was chaotic, but I was blessed to have photo shoot and autograph with Charice. I also had a brief love-affair with David Foster as we hugged and kissed each other like long lost lovers (LOL LOL!)! Charice tried her best to prolong the meet and greet when she came out to the lobby and waved to the Chasters patiently standing outside the locked glass doors. Charice disappeared from the lobby and re-appeared waving from her SUV along 8th Avenue. We ran to her van for more pictures and autographs.
Ah! Were it not for the strict Security, the night would never have ended. We returned to Toronto Sunday morning, but the magic of Friday the 23rd continued to linger on…
