Charice Lauds Arnel Pineda

Charice Lauds Arnel Pineda

MANILA – International singing sensation Charice is proud of “Journey” front man Arnel Pineda, who, like her, took the “Oprah Winfrey Show” by storm.

Siyempre proud ako sa kanya. And natutuwa ako sa kanya, happy ako for him,” Charice said.

She said she was among those first few people who saw on video-sharing Web site YouTube a teaser about Pineda’s guesting on “Oprah.”

She said: “Ang totoo noong time na ‘yon kasi lagi po kaming magkasama ng executive producer ng Oprah. At lagi ko pong nao-open sa kanya na mayroon pa ding na-diskubre sa YouTube na Filipino singer.”

“Ako, nauna kong nakita ang teaser sa YouTube. ‘Yong iba hindi pa nila alam na nasa Oprah si Kuya Arnel.”

Charice, 17, said she wasn’t able to see Pineda before or even after his guesting since she’s also busy with her work.

“Last namin pong pagkikita ay ‘yong nag-guest kami sa [musical variety show] ASAP. Siguro mga months ago na po,” Charice said.

Charice, who is now taking a rest in Manila, is set to fly to the United states on Thursday for the “David Foster & Friends” show. She will also attend the premiere of “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.”

Her first international album, meanwhile, will be released in the US January of next year.

The Journey DVD is worth having by all filipinos. For $10.00 at Walmart, you get a chance to see a 2 1’2 hour concert by Journey. The concert was awesome although not as good as being actual there and hearing Arnel live on stage.

Kudos, both to Arnel and Charice.

[She said, “The truth is that around that time, I was always with the executive producer of Oprah. And I would always open up to that person that there is another one discovered in Youtube who is a Filipino singer.”]

“Ako, nauna kong nakita ang teaser sa YouTube. ‘Yong iba hindi pa nila alam na nasa Oprah si Kuya Arnel.”

[I actually already saw the teaser in Youtube, while others didn’t even know yet that Kuya (big brother) Arnel will be in Oprah.”]

That would be very possible that Charice tipped the producers at Harpo Productions about Arnel and his similarly inspiring story. And with Arnel’s talent which perfectly complements his humility, he deserves all these breaks as well. I’m not surprised that the other band members of Journey who are already millionaires on their own took interest in finding out more about Arnel’s humble beginnings. It probably gave them a better understanding of where all that soul in Arnel’s performance comes from. It just shows you the kind hearts they have. They all deserve the blessings they have. More power to Charice and Arnel and the Journey.

I recently purchased the new Journey DVD which was recorded in Manila. The whole thing is about ARNEL. The insert tells his life story and how he was discovered on You Tube by Neil Schon.

The Band spent 2 weeks in Manila prior to the concert and Arnel took them around to his old haunts, including the docks where he worked scavenging and cleaning and Luneta Park where he slept.

Imagine…these guys are multi millionaires and yet they were interested in Arnel’s life story.

The concert is HOT HOT HOT. Schon said it was so hot and humid his strings were rusting by the end! Arnel does a fantastic job of strutting the stage, working the crowd and selling the show.

One thing that impressed me is either Arnel is very small or the guys in Journey are HUGE. They tower over Arnel by a foot or more and they are just monsters compared to Pineda.

Arnel’s voice is superb for the material, though I could sense a little hoarseness towards the end (who would be hoarse?).

It’s well worth the 10 bucks WalMart is charging.
