Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez apologized to Charice Pempengco because she was not able to make it to the international singing sensation first major concert last June 27 at SMX Convention Center, after tested positive for influenza.
Regine Velasquez tested positive for influenza A (H1N1) virus, but she has already recovered with the help of his boyfriend Ogie Alcasid, adequate rest and vitamins.
She was the first local celebrity to publicly admit that she got infected by the disease. Regine admitted that she got scared when she was diagnosed H1N1.
She quarantine herself, and wore a mask so as not to infect those who are close to her. She also learned that the best thing to do in order to avoid any disease is to keep oneself healthy.
The Department of Health has already recorded a total of 1,709 confirmed A (H1N1) cases in the Philippines as of June 27, 2009.
Charice was reportedly teary eyed when she learned that her idol could not make it in the concert. Velasquez said she also felt the same way.
She said she hopes that the international singing sensation will again invite her to perform in her next concert.

JimFan,
You sell yourself short. You are a very eloquent writer. When you have an article ready, and I know you will, send it to me please. I think you are right up there with LoloLando, JP, OMIE, and FLTom for the potential to produce a great article I would be proud to post here in Charicemania.
Now 18WheelerEdy I might have to polish up a bit, heheh. But I bet an article by him would be wonderful. What say you, 18-W-E?
I also was raised to open doors, say thank you, and be polite. I’ve found there are plenty of quality people who appreciate it. This is particularly true here in the Charicemania community. Not everybody subscribes to that belief, but most do.
Thanks for your contributions.

OMIE you can’t go anywhere. We need positive role models here. From what I can see Charice doesn’t display any meaness and is always ready to move on (pitbull). Now that doesn’t mean she doesn’t hurt when she reads negative comments, but she is an example I would like to see all of us follow.
There is too much intolerence and lack of respect in today’s society. Can’t tell you how many times i’ve held the door open for people, without even an aknowledgement of thank you; as if it was my job. But I will continue to do my parents teachings, say bless you when people sneeze, say good morning to people and give a smile. Life is short and we might as well go thru it happy because we don’t know when it might end.
Just follow Charice’ lead. How can you go wrong? OMIE continue listening to Charice. I really believe she is the best natural medicine around.

Guys what is the big deal about Regine getting sick> She got sick, no show, then move on. Charice deliver an excellent concert which millions fans around the world enjoy, then let move on, and go to another event, not unless some of you were die hard fans Regine.
But anyway, move on guys, and don’t dwell on the past, Charice up coming events should be the focus of the chasters.
lot of love, to all of you.

First to all thanks to all who have commented upon my post #42. There are enough of people who have the same vision of what I want a fan-site to be. Disagreements are OK with me, but what I wanted was to see more of what in the British Parliament is called “Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition”. In spite of this analogy we are not concerned with political power here. Our area is called entertainment, and power for us has to do with power ballads. Therefore, our debate should not degenerate to the level where the political debate sometimes is. If lack of civility is tolerated because such is Filipino nature then I would accept that and leave immediately. I would also suggest that Charicemania change language from English to Tagalog. – However, I am telling you I’m not going. I’m staying.
Personal attacks are handled very well by the Charicemania staff – thanks friend Max – and Filipinos have greater respect for people of my own generation than what I am used to from my own culture. I appreciate that, and if I have reacted it has been in the other direction. That is, when I have been treated with excessive politeness by Charicemania staffers.
Blackrose #51 is commended for understanding what my post #42 was about, not how we treat each other but how we write about those whose actions we don’t like. Some include Regine Velasquez in this category but the obvious example is Freddie Aguilar. His recent criticism of fellow Filipino singers has been off-limits here in Charicemania. Charice as one of Aguilar’s targets has handled the situation admirably. An article at http://www.abs-cbnNEWS.com July 13 cites Charice’s reply in Tagalog and then summarizes Charice’s position in English:
Despite the controversial remark of the “Anak” singer, she holds no grudge against Aguilar. She said she still admires him and respects his opinion.
Therefore, let us take Charice as our role model and learn from her how one acts in conflicts.

OMIE,
Please dont leave this site. I very rarely post here but I am a reader and your opinions about Charice we value. Please dont leave.
Agewise, I am like you – an old woman in Orange County (California).
If you leave, there will only be few of us so please please stay. There are lots of them young ones here so we need to keep our generation well represented.
Please stay. It will be lonely for us “young once” if you leave.

pls. don’t leave this site…and we beg you…alright i am one of those chasters who kind of doubted Ms. Regine…it’s not that i was hatin’ on her…it’s just that i was sad for charice for she was expecting her on the show…and i know i only added to the heat…and if charice may have read my comment, i know she would be sad…and OMIE you definitely did nothing wrong and there’s no reason/need to apologize…it is me whom i believe needs to apologize to chasters and to charice for doubting.
i got carried away with all the mean things they would tell charice (media) and it hurts me (before charice’s concert) and added by regine’s absence made me disappointed.
so pls. stay OMIE, we truly appreciate your involvement here in charicemania…CHEERS…

It is not surprising for Filipinos to love and support Charice but it is not only a welcome surprise but heartwarming as well to know that a number of non-Filipinos are among her most dedicated supporters here. We say “salamat” to you, and we hope to continue enjoying your company as we help introduce an exceptionally talented lady to the music world.

Omie, please stay, your knowledge and perspective are a pleasure. Jester@39, Purplewillow@38 – hope to see more comments from you. Max, I’m glad you will be editing out the negative, but that is the nature of the world unfortunately. For my part, I simply skip what I don’t agree with and move on.
The debate “culture” is international, however, not any moreso to filipinos. Look at the debate regarding Sotomayor as Supreme Court justice, for instance.
I have more to say, but I am being called for dinner. I just hope all chasters continue to support this site!

OMIE,
This is indeed an international web site. And you are right, the majority of the Chasters here are Filipino. You and I have had many personal exchanges by private email, and I treasure each and every one of them. You have given me different insights into Charice’s music and how it has affected not only Filipinos but also fans spreading all of the way from Dubai to America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and several other countries.
As such, Chasters belong to a global community made up of many diverse cultures. Because this entire, unbelievable story of how a little girl with no resources at all except her awe-inspiring voice rose up in a small town in the Philippines. That is why, in my opinion, Filipinos are most protective of her.
However, I also agree with you in that I find some behavior distasteful. As a moderator on this volunteer web site that was created by an extremely ardent fan, I feel bound to uphold the image of Charicemania that Admin envisions as a family oriented, friendly place to come and partake of all the love that flows here between Charice and Chasters, and from Chaster to Chaster.
Accordingly, I will remove or edit comments from anyone that attacks another commenter, or uses language that I would not want any child to see. We should all observe our idol’s behavior. She has nothing bad to say about anybody, anytime. It has paid off handsomely for her.
We need the international flavor you bring with your words. I think we can all agree to disagree, and that is OK as long as we do it in a civilized manner. Perhaps the most difficult mountain Charice will have to climb looms before her as she makes her mark in America. Charice needs all of our support; Pinoy, North American, European, Asian and everybody else who has been touched by Charice.
So please stay and remain committed to Charice and all of your extended family here at Charicemania.

OMIE@41:
NO NEED to apologize at all – I have no doubt you had only the best intentions when you made that post, if only because it is additional information about our darling Charice, that would be of interest to the rest of us.
I’m a Filipino and mudslinging is not my cup of tea either. I say my piece and let the others enjoy the freedom of expression that I have as well, whether I agree with them or not.
If your post caused a lot of these negative comments to be generated, it is not your fault. I’m sure you intended to bring closure to one of the disappointments of the concert.
So please stay around. Like you said, this is an international website, and we need people like you to make it remain so. We need someone outside our culture to point out things that are not so obvious to us. Charice and her management need to know what the non-Filipinos think about her so they can make better plans with her career.
Vive le difference!

Charicemania is meant to be an international website. That means that people with different nationalities and cultural backgrounds meet here for the well-being and for the art and career of Charice. However, most Chasters are Filipinos or have some relation to Charice’s own country. Only a few of us have not. I am one of them.
For more than 25 years I have had a subscription to the concerts of the professional symphony orchestra in the city where I live. Since there are about 30 concerts in the season you may calculate how many I have attended. It is not common that soloists are sick and have to be substituted but it has happened a few times. Singers are especially vulnerable. In opera and musical productions there are therefore understudies who can replace the stars if they are unable to perform.
When it was announced that Charices idol Regine Velasquez was unable to perform at Charice’s concert I was disappointed. Regine’s music is not my music but I had read that she and Charice had a good personal relation and that Charice had looked forward to singing together with her. I am sure that Regine’s fans in the audience were disappointed too. When it was later announced that Regine had the A(H1N1) virus I had no reason to doubt that. I knew from own experience that laboratory tests take some time. I have checked – influenza type A or B may be diagnosed within 15 minutes but subtypes, i.e. H1N1 still takes some days.
The top story of this thread is without source but is based upon an item from http://www.abs-cbnnews.com that I submitted. I am sorry for that. In my naivity I thought I had found a piece of news that was informative for Chasters and which was positive for Regine Velasquez. I was mistaken, mainly because as a Scandinavian I am not accustomed to Filipino debate culture. I am thus sorry that indirectly I gave bad publicity to Charice’s idol Regine Velasquez, who in my eyes is worthy of respect.
Filipinos know that mudslinging is part of their debate culture. So far it is not part of mine, and I don’t know if I am ever going to accept it. I know that some comments have been censored but I have read enough to get upset, and that is not good for me. I have therefore seriously thought of leaving Charicemania. Unlike boxing, singing is not a sport where the only way to win is by making the other guy loose.
When I stay – at least long enough to write this comment – it is because I see that recent comments are more in line with my own thinking. After all, may be Charice’s followers and fans from different cultures can still meet at Charicemania.

I echoes what purplewillow just said, i used to comment alot before but very seldom now. It doesn’t mean any bad thoughts or negativity, i still & always be a chaster in this site. If we can only find in our hearts how to say “love” to those who hate us or our idol. Very hard… but forgiveness will do. And everything shall fall into place.

regarding regine’s apology…some of the comments are really rude and downright nasty. well…you are entitled to your own opinions…
it’s just that, what if regine DIED? how would you feel after saying all those nasty things? i’m so thankful to God that she’s ok now.i am a charice fan, but long before charice came into the picture i was already and still am a regine fan. i love them both. i have always believed that everything happens for a reason and i’d rather dwell on the positive…life would be so much peaceful.by the way, i have been a constant visitor on this site since last year and this is the first time i’ve commented. i felt i needed to give my so called…two cents worth.

Of course we are all entitled to our opinion and if we feel we must relay it to Charice that is our prerogative. Although we all have our take of what really occurred between Charice and Regine, unless we know the facts we will never know fully what transpired. The most important thing is it is between Charice and Regine and not Regine and us the fans. If Charice accepts the explanation, then that is all that really matters. Besides, with her busy schedule, she doesn’t have the time to dwell on the past as she has to focus on the present. Whether or not she accepts the explanation fully, only she can answer that. But from past experiences that I have seen, Charice has always taken the positive stance and I, as an adoring fan, will take her lead. It is up to her and her management to use this as a learning experience.
My feeling it was a combination of illness and taking into account the opinions of those fans that were at the concert, that the back-up singers, dancers, and musicians were inadequate; and maybe not up to the standards that Regine was accustomed too. Rather than take a step backward, the illness conveniently helped her to back-out. Again, that’s only my opinion. Anyway, it appears the concert was a success and the fans did not go home disappointed, and bottom line, that’s all that counts. Charice really can do it by herself and all the rest is gravy. Plus I feel Charice and Regine will ultimately get together and perform for their fans, perhaps as co-headliners.
I mean can anyone be fully trusted? With the Madoff’s, the cheating athletes and scammers that have shaken the world and turned the lives of many upside down, things must be questioned in this day and age. Can we ourselves look in the mirror and say we have always been 100% honest? I can’t. Everyone embellishes and may twist the truth a little to “sell” ourselves. Whether it’s a big deal that Regine pulled out of the concert, it really is insignificant in the whole scheme of things. Much more important things to worry about, as far as I’m concerned.
Continued luck to Charice and I pray you will always be yourself and keep the same work ethic and focus that you’ve always displayed. One last thing, I was stuck in traffic and a 2 hour trip took me 4 hours yesterday. Sounds kind of bad, but I had my Charice cds playing, so my 4 hour concert was actually very enjoyable.

I think we should all agree to occasionally disagree because in any forum differences in opinions are unavoidable. Contrasting opinions are alright as long as they are expressed civilly, which I observed is practiced in this site. Moreover, a spirit of tolerance should be practiced to avoid feeling personally slighted or offended.
