International singing sensation Charice said she will be happy to sing the country’s national anthem in the much anticipated fight between People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao and British boxer Ricky Hatton in Las Vegas, United States on May 2.
Charice, who will be doing a concert on May 9 and 10 also in Las Vegas, said she can squeeze in the Pacquiao-Hatton showdown amid her busy schedule.
“Kung okay, opo naman why not, so deretso na ako [sa concert],” Charice said. “Kung ako ang masusunod, gusto ko siyempre.”
An invitation, however, has yet to be extended to the pint-sized singer.
Charice’s fans and supporters have been asking the young diva to sing “Lupang Hinirang” in the Pacquiao-Hatton fight at MGM Grand Hotel, an event that is expected to be watched by millions of people worldwide.
For his fights, Pacquiao traditionally handpicks an individual who will sing the national anthem.
Before Charice can sing for the event, however, there are some issues to be hurdled.
“Kahit gustuhin [naman] natin magkaiba kami ng network, si Sir Manny at ako. Pero kung talagang ire-request nila [bakit hindi]? Pero ako gusto ko talagang [kumanta sa laban niya],” she said.
Charice also wished the Filipino boxing icon good luck, adding that she is rooting for him.
“Magaling po si Sir Manny so kayang-kaya ‘yan. Basta good luck na lang,” the YouTube sensation said.
Charice, who took a short break in Manila, is scheduled to do a show in Dubai before she goes back to Los Angeles to finish her first international album.
She will celebrate her 17th birthday this coming May 10 in the US.

Pacquiao ditching TV partner?
MANILA, Philippines—The next time Manny Pacquiao’s fans get to watch the Filipino boxing superstar fight live on local television screens, it will be most likely no longer courtesy of Solar Sports.
The world’s pound-for-pound king, according to unimpeachable sources, is severing his ties with the troubled sports channel and looking to hook up with one of several interested networks, including media giant ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., for his mega-buck bout against British Hitman Ricky Hatton on May 2.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer learned about this development Saturday night from the source, who spoke on the condition he not be named because of the sensitivity of the issue.
The source also declined to discuss the details of the looming split but bared that Pacquiao’s camp is “very close” to striking a new deal with “a giant network.”

Hi Guys, Hello 18wheeleredy, if you ask me who will sing our national anthem, I would rather that another Filipina should do it.
Of course, Charice will be there and will sing either God Bless America or the STAR-SPANGLED BANNER. WHY? Here is the reason.
In Lupang Hinirang (this is the title of our national anthem), Charice could not improvise except putting on a high note at the end of the song. A Filipino singer (Christian Bautista) tried to create another version of this song and what did he get? Harsh comments….
Because Charice sang the God Bless America and got praised in the process, she could sing it here. However, I would suggest that she sings The Star-Spangled Bannner. Why? Charice will show the US and the world how this song is to be sung. Of course, DF will do the interpretation. I tell you, 18wheeleredy, this will put CHARICE up there by her lonesome and where she is supposed to be, sitting on her queenly throne.

Live and let others live, wag yung puro si Charice na lang. Kailangan mapansin din yung ibang pinay singers. Charice is already one step to H’WOOD she doesnt need any further intoduction.Saka puro mahihilig lang sa boksing ang manonood nyan, and those foreign viewers, will they appreciate and understand the meaning of ” lUPANG hINIRANG” ???

Hey everyone if you read this right now,
David Foster and Friends (Hitman) is showing right now on PBS replay of last December’s show. It is 9:00 pm TX time right now. I know that most of you got the CD/DVD but it is just a thrill to see Charice together with these great singers being shown on American Television.
God Bless to all…..

Hi Guys,
Prestige and money are at stake here. Okkaba has the point. Others don’t go with his/her line of reasoning. So how could we reconcile the two. Simple….. Charice will attend the bout and she will be requested to sing “GOD BLESS AMERICA”. Take note that the bout will be in US soil and most attendees are Americans. In this era of dwindling pockets, there is no better thing to do than to squeeze the patriotic juices of Americans. Those 2 pugs are getting their bread and butter in American soil.
Here are my take on this situation:
1. Let another girl sing our national anthem. She needs the money and exposure more than Charice. Understand Kuya Hutch that since the ascendancy of Charice more and more Filipino singers were relegated to backing up Charice. “Nabaliktad ang situasyon ika nga, Kuya.
2. Charice popularity will not be dented regardless of the outcome.
3. Charice will increase attendance to this event and to their forthcoming concert. But I doubt if there are still seats available in that Mandalay concert. Most, I think, are taken already by avid Pinoy fans!! By now, you should have perfected that “Mexican Wave”.
4. The “contra pelo” mind-set of Pinoys will not apply here since CHARICE will sing another song. The hate and blame factors will be averted.
5. These 2 stations will not have any thing to worry about when it comes to ratings.
The culture and sensibilities of Filipinos here in the Philippines (you who are abroad are not included)is so unreasonable that they blame anybody but themselves for their failures. Even the unseen is not immune to this “blame game”.

whatever pacquiao wants, pacquiao gets… so it’s entirely depends on pacquiao if he wants charice to sing the national anthem. but for me pacquiao needs charice more than charice needs pacquiao… coz all things considered, charice is a better representation of what a filipino is all about.

It seems that some people, I guess, might have misunderstood what the writer meant by referring to Charice as a “pint-sized” singer.
It’s not an insult at all. It’s just a description that somebody is petite and/or small. And Charice is just that, she’s petite. The writer wasn’t insulting her at all. Just an FYI.

Charice has no contract with ABS CBN anymore but she stick to that station maybe because she has a big “utang na loob” to them or maybe she likes the station so much that going to other station is like taking a bitter pill.
But I don’t know if Manny knows Charice yet because in PI once you’re in a different station, you’ll never know the stars in the other station. And they are also in a different league though Manny likes to sing and has his own album.
But I hope he will pick Charice since he has to pick someone who will sing the national anthem endorsed by his people near to him. And those people I think knows Charice well.

Regine Velasquez can do something about it. I heard she & charice had dinner together at her place. So there must be friendship created between them & also RV is our idol’s idol.
If Dingdong Dantes recommended Karylle to sing the country’s national anthem knowing her contract(karylle) to GMA will soon expires at that time. Regine has more something to say about this, she can push charice to the management of GMA.

As much as i would love to see Charice sing our national anthem on Pacquiao’s fight, i rather she doesn’t simply because of what might all the “HATERS” would start calling her if SOMEHOW Manny loses the fight. I am pretty sure that they will start blaming her being the bad luck or something. We all know that Philippines goes on a stand still on Manny’s fights, as in everybody will be watching. 90 percent of those wants him to win.

National pride and glory must transcend Philippine network wars. I do hope Charice will sing the national anthem. Charice has sizable number of fans from Pacland.
There are currently 4 famous Pinoy ‘P’s:
Manny Pacquiao
Charice Pempengco
Arnel Pineda of Journey
Allan Pineda of Black Eyed Peas

Oh yes I agree much better for Charice to sing a pambansang awit ng pilipinas for Pacquiao vs. Hatton’s in the coming fight on may 2 because they’re both international hottest famous filipinos and they’re both letter P’s. Pacquiao and Pempengco. And as we have seen also or maybe some have not seen of Jennefer Hudson the american idol winner singing Spangle Banner during Super Bowl last Feb.
