Legendary producer and songwriter David Foster was recently interviewed on-air by Van McNeil of radio station 99.1 WMYX based out of Milwaukee, WI. McNeil asked the producer about Hitman, the latter’s new autobiographical book and CD/DVD, as well as his thoughts on his new protégé, Charice.
David Foster said that Charice “packs a wallop” like he hasn’t seen since Whitney and Celine and calls her “spellbinding.” He also added that the young star’s album would most likely be out by the beginning of November. They wanted to take their time as they didn’t want to create a good album but a great one. As Foster will be working with other producers to make it a multiple genre album, the style that they would be shooting for would be a “combination of Britney and Celine” to appeal across a wide spectrum of listeners.

Van McNeil: David, before we let you go, can you tell me a little bit about Charice? I saw the video of the Oscar benefit that you did a couple of weeks ago. Charice comes up on stage and just belts it out. How did you stumble upon her?
David Foster: When my sister and a friend of mine from Warner Brothers called me within 10 minutes of each other, sending me the link from YouTube. Then shortly thereafter Oprah found it and she told me about her and had her on the show. It was interesting, that oscar night. It was kind of a rowdy crowd. I was up on stage with a couple of other performers… very, very difficult to get them to quiet down and when Charice came on, the place went silent. The girl packs a wallop like I haven’t seen since Whitney and Celine.

“She is one of the most amazing talents you’ll ever, ever see and you’re gonna see history tonight because one year from now, this girl is gonna be one of the biggest stars on the planet. Guaranteed 100%. Please give it up for, from the Philippines, Charice!”
VM: Those are your words, Mr. Foster.
DF: I will stick by that and of course when I’m wrong, I’m wrong big and when I’m right, I’m right big, too.
VM: (laughs) And how does that come to be, David? Is it a combination of what the artist brings to the table along with your knowhow? You bring these unbelievable sounds out of all these superstar singers.
DF: It is that combination. Obviously the talent is there and what I can bring to the table but let’s not forget that she has Oprah in her corner. Oprah has a big stick and Oprah loves this girl like nobody I’ve ever seen and she’s just determined to shortcut this girl’s success. You know, a lot of people are gonna get there anyway, and I believe that Charice is one of those who will get there anyway ’cause she’s that talented. But when you have someone like Oprah on the team, and hopefully I can add to the mix too, it just kinda shortcuts the whole thing. And I really believe when we get the album finished and it comes out… people just want to see her.
DF: There’s a lot of great singers out there. They come up and sing, they can even have a hit record, but you’re like, ‘hmm… that’s not really turning me on.’ People’s jaws drop when they hear her sing. She’s spellbinding.
VM: That she is. Do we have a projected date on when her debut album will be dropping?
DF: It will happen this year and of course you know this year means you have to have something out pretty much by the beginning of November. But we want to take our time, we don’t want to rush it because if we just did a good album, it’s not gonna be good enough. We have to do everything we can do to make a great album. That’ll require a lot of work from a lot of people. I won’t be the only producer; she needs to go more youthful in some of the songs which mean reaching out to some of the younger producers that do more Top 40 music. If you can imagine, if Britney and Celine were to get together.. the combination of that two to make her album. That’s what we’re shooting for.
VM: Alright, something huge! I can’t wait to hear what becomes of Charice in the coming months, David.

I’m really, really excited about the new developement of Charice’s International album. It’s a great move for David Foster to buy some time so as to produce the best songs for Charice. It’s a worth wait for me. I’m contemplating that this album will have the songs all worthy of Grammy nomination/WINNER. I’m sure this one of Charice’s dreams.
DF said Charice is “Spellbinding” and I’m one of those that are spellbound by Charice. My day is not complete until I hear her songs and watch her videos. It so amazing how she quiet down those rowdy crowd at Mr. Chow’s when she started singing. I love how she belts out Listen and they all LISTEN and started cheering.

I have not seen your video but have read your post at Phil Bolsta’s blog dated Dec. 25, 2008 timed at 8:06Pm, to be exact. Did your going for the “high note” commence after Celine raised her hands? Oh, what a feeling, did you catch it? And who was that “screaming old man” who seemed to out-sound the standing ovation from the audience? Maybe, it was your twin brother…lol.

We have sung together already. At MSG with Celine Dion – you can hear us. If you look at my video, that’s me going for the high notes in the background. No it wasn’t me screaming, it was my best singing.
Plus we probably won’t be singing together in November. I hear this guy David Foster’s birthday is also that month, so there goes my thunder.
Anyway, always enjoy reading your comments but I must admit I have to read them several times, because you are so much deeper than me. Bottom line, as long as we support Charice you’re my brother; but you still can’t come to my birthday.

Sorry nobody is going to be invited to my birthday. Just me, my headphones and Charice’ first international album in my room with my stereo. Although I’m literally salivating to get a copy of Charice’s new album, I heartily endorse the decision from Charice and David Foster to take a little more time so they can make a great, rather than just good, first USA album for this fabulous, world class new artist. Smart move.

Hey guys!
I think I have come-up with a great idea on how we can help our princess to be more famous worldwide. We’ll broaden her stage trough youtube. (Uploading & watching her videos is not enough, what we can do more is to spread the link of her videos into somebody’s video.) We’ll roam the world via internet, introduce CHARICE on every country & territory, invade most viewed videos of each country and leave a link to charice’s videos with a persuasive & remarkable comment about her. (just make sure the viewers will get curious about her, anyone who has brilliant ideas may contribute). Maybe we can start by as follows.
1.We can have a good lead to YT most viewed videos of every country if we know at least one famous Personality (I think a President/Prime Minister will do, but it is better to have one in Music/Entertainment Industry for a direct connection to the viewers who love music.) i.e. Herbert Groenemeyer a famous singer from Germany, Sone Nigam of India, Leehom Wang of China, Alejandro Sanz Of Spain.
2.If we found one, search the name in YT. From there we can intermingle to the viewers and build-up Charice to them, our goal is to recruit them to be a Chaster (Use your charm if you need to just to let them watch charice, then our princess’ magical voice will handle them.
3.Let us all be united and act now to put Charice in Full Stardom. Everyone who appointed himself as her fan should respond to this call.
