Whitney Houston is Rumored To Be The Surprise Guest at David Foster & Friends’ Concert

David Foster and Charice Pempengco – Whitney was last seen here at a Planet Hollywood-sponsored boxing championship fight, which also brought out Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone. That started rumors that after battling demons and ex-husband Bobby Brown, she was getting ready for a comeback. Now we’re hearing that first album will be released this summer and writer-producers Stargate have contributed the single “Calling You Tonight” to be released in advance.

But Clive himself confirmed that David, who has produced everybody from Josh Groban to Barbra Streisand and Andre Bocelli, will start working with Whitney this week. One of the stars booked for David’s May 9 “Friends” concert along with Earth, Wind & Fire’s Phillip Bailey, Brian McKnight and Peter Cincotti is Oprah Winfrey’s protégé Charice Pempengco. At last year’s Mandalay concert aired on PBS, teen Charice wowed and dazzled the sold-out crowd with her version of Whitney’s hit “I Will Always Love You.” If I remember correctly, David even intermixed Whitney’s Bodyguard soundtrack video to match Charice’s version.

Now just think of the thunderous reaction and emotional highlight if they did it live together! I leave you with the rumors because we’ll never know who his surprise guests will be until the very last moment!

Hi to everyone who was able to read my opinion that,I submitted yesterday.I can`t remember how long,I`ve been following everything about Charice from the moment I so her on Star King and learned more about how badly she was treated when Charice did her first recording in foreign land with same person who works for Star recording company.Just like what I said we Filipinos are bunch hypocrite. If Star record think Charice has the potential to be a star then how come they let this foreign company to do her very first recording and also starving this poor child to dead and not being concerned about Charice bleeding nose in that cold place. For so long, I`m just happy to read other`s opinion here.I said to myself why should I lower my standard if I have one? ! ! ! but I heard the old thoughts during time of Marcos, whose going to speak for us if no will. And who will act for us if no wants to, my apology in advance if this is not right. As par as Charice mom I didn`t meaned to insult her, but she still has the last call for all the decision when it come`s to her child,it`s not Charice manager because Charice is still a minor.Any contract that Charice is involve it`s her signature on the contract in behalf of her daughter. My hope for Charice is to be like Celine Dion who sold 200 million album or to surpass her record.I don`t want Charice to have the same fate as Nora Aunor from rag to riches to rag.Again to Charice mom, I`m sorry if I offend you but sometimes the truth hurt.I can relate to you, to all the pain and suffering you guys went thru in life. Lastly, I hope the GM or the moderator of this site will not erase my blog this time and hopefully Charice and her mom can read my opinion/suggestion.I hpoe you like it,love it or what ever….. PEACE OUT ! ! !

I think that this is a win/win situation for both Whitney & Charice to sing a duet at this event. Celine did a duet with Charice (Because you love me)and it did wonders for Celine’s personaly as a mentor and Charice as an up and comer star. Whitney would do no wrong if she do a duet with Charice (One Moment in Time).Just think of it this way, it would ease, calm and propel Whitneys comeback and Charice will be able to get her wish to sing with her idol.
    Both of them wins.

If no one had noticed it yet, the vertical scroller at the right of our monitor is becoming smaller as more and more comments flood every available space of this column. Reading all the comments put a strain in my eyes and forced my mind to spin, deciphering what really is the subject of this endless debate. And it did not take long to spot the difference. This is what I call RAILROAD debate where the debaters’ sword of contentions never touch each other. They just roll on a parallel track.

One contends that it takes long to appreciate a singer’s voice. Others felt enamored at the singer right away, just like love at first sight. I could sensed that the former, could not have appreciated right away the singers that she mentioned in her post. She never mentioned it but that is her system of appreciation. Hence, there was nothing to debate in the first place.

In my opinion a connoisseur of music has four things to consider: the lyrics of the song, the singer’s voice range, the arrangement, and the accompanying instruments. The beauty of a song is the sole responsibility of the music arranger. You may have the best singer but if the song is not in accord with the singer’s voice range, the result is a flop. These 4 ingredients must create harmony to elicit ovations and goosebumps to the listeners. Anything less, forces the listeners to take off theirs shoes and throw them in the direction of the singer…lol.

To me, a song that is sang differently from the original is another song because another soul is created out of that interpretation. As they say, we have 5 senses but we differ in the way we utilize each.
One singer came to mind who interpreted songs so differently that the moment you hear her sing, you will be mesmerized, and fell in love with her right away. She is Eva Cassidy with her interpretations of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Danny Boy, Bridge Over Troubled Water,Songbird and Fields of Gold. By the way, she died without ever knowing the the magnitude of love and affection showered on her out of these songs. She was also an angel to those who watched and hear her sang.

    To Sister Angela,

Hi! May I answer your comments. And please don’t get me wrong.
Every person is entitled to her/his own opinion. I believe in democracy to a certain degree. Well, I do understand that every person is unique is his/her own way. We may have differences in our five human senses. Like what you’ve said that it will take years and years for you to listen and be able to appreciate the singer’s song. We are the opposite. It’s because it took less that 4 minutes to touch my heart and soul. It was Charice song “I Will Always Love You” on YOU TUBE. Mind you it was the first time. By chance I came to open her video on YOU TUBE. And that was it. The goosebumps, the tears I shed was too much to bear. That captivated my heart and surrendered to her. And by the way it’s not only me. Thousands if not millions shared the same experience. And we thank GOD for sending an angel in the person of Charice. To keep up inspired and strong despite all the odds in this world. Thank you also for all the support of the fans and people who believes in her talent. More power also to this fansite for keeping the flame alive in in our hearts. To Sister Angela love and world loves with you. Open your heart, your eyes, your ears and LISTEN once more to Charice songs. If it needs a miracle from GOD to help you feel of what we feel. So be it. GOD BLESS.

    For KV

I had no intentions to get back but I received the answer through the email so on your respect I thought it right to answer. I do not think this is the right place to discuss choices and preferences but I would like to thank you for the answer and the manner.

I would like to specify that I am not an expert in music but I just have a well appreciated music site and everyone connects in with all sorts of choices and tastes and I let them be, whether I like their choices or not because I feel it is right that way. It is a way to know new artists and different styles.

In a fanclub it is considerably different. Naturally I don’t let people insult other singers but I don’t particularly like it when they make comparisons. Each great artist has their unique style and I find it disrespectful for the one and the other artist to make comparisons. Even journalists do it and I’d kick their behind for it. I mean Elvis is Elvis, Aretha is Aretha, Celine is Celine and Charice is Charice. This is my personal opinion right or wrong that it may be.

I would like to correct one thing which I wrote. I appreciate Pavarotti and my respect is also based on the fact that I’m Italian but if I have to be honest … I love Placido Domingo if I had to choose I’d certainly choose him. I forgot to add plenty names on my preferences like Maria Callas, Edith Piaf and Stevie Wonder which are surely amongst legends. Edith Piaf is probably less known in the USA but in Europe she was very popular. A tiny woman with powerful voice. And by the way I did say that I don’t have feelings for Charices’ voice at the moment but I never said that my feelings couldn’t change and whatever for respect when she has her new album out it will definitely be posted as news in my web site like I do for all singers whether they are of my choice or not.

Enjoy work and keep up the good job on the fan web site. True to me I would never have the guts to open a Fan site for anybody. lol!!!

Excuse mistakes in the writing but I’m dropping to sleep. In europe it is 2.30 a.m.

    ——-

    Hello Angela,

Thank you for coming back and posting your comment. It sounds like you run a pretty fair website. Glad to know you like Placido. In my younger days, I said that if I have to come back next time, I’ll come back as someone Placido sings to!
    :)

I’m not too attached to that notion anymore. Who knows? I could come back as someone as good as Placido instead!

Oh, well. I’m glad I can still laugh at myself!

I saw a movie on Edith Piaf! Didn’t know much about her. The movie made me look her up. Amazing life story. Amazing voice. (The life is always first with me.)

For the record, I am not a fan of praise at the expense of another. So when I read comparisons of artists (really a not too subtle attempt at put downs if you ask me) that involves bad-mouthing another, that saddens me. I could write more about this, but I’ve spent too much time in front of the computer today. It is time to stop.

Again, thank you for visiting again.

    Wishing you all the best,

    KV

This is in response to Angela’s comment No. 38 which I have copied below for reference. As a moderator, I noted in Angela’s original comment that she is hard to please. In No. 38, Angela admits that she is, indeed, hard to please and elaborates (see below).

This response is offered, not as a moderator, but as just another reader. I will post another comment as moderator after this.

    ———-

    Angela,

Thank you for what you’ve written below. It supports my claim – made on this site from the very beginning – that when we write something, we are mostly sharing information about us and our view of the world. In your example, your view of what moves you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

So how did this ’shared view’ cause so much agitation amongst those who took exception to your original comment?

Well, if I remember correctly, the original comment you posted was offered AS IF DICTUM when in fact, it was simply your opinion as you yourself admitted below. As commenters, we are so quick to post our thoughts thinking we have a point to make. That’s well and good. But we don’t take a moment to check how the readers might view what we’ve written. Opinions, masquerading as fact, can always rub some people the wrong way instead of being viewed for what it is: One person’s view.

Your comment (copied below) I find totally understandable. It doesn’t rub me the wrong way because all you’re saying is that you are hard to please. There is nothing in what you’ve written that is about Charice actually except the fact that she hasn’t moved you. That says more about you than about Charice and that’s fine. But your original comment came across AS IF those who find her singing moving are a bit off their rockers. Comments like that will always invite a contentious response. Just like the one who posted her ‘prediction’ that Charice’s career will fade in a few years.

She, too, was expressing her ‘opinion’ – her thoughts, her fears really – but again, opinion offered AS IF DICTUM, with a tone that says, ‘This is the way it is, folks. End of story.’ As she found out, people responded rather violently to that ‘prediction.’ Unfortunately, a bit over the top, if I may so, but I’ll post another comment to address that.

I know you meant well. You say you have a music website and perhaps consider yourself a bit of an authority on music. That’s great. However, your musical ‘taste’ is still only yours. That taste cannot be imposed on anyone else. Someone’s taste for music – no matter how cacophonous it might sound to you – is just as valid as yours.

I, too, am hard to please. I don’t pay attention to pop music much. Prefer Placido Domingo over Pavarotti. Pavarotti never appealed to me. Right there we differ in ‘taste’. Two hard to please people with different preferences. But that’s OK. As Shakespeare says, ‘Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.”

But one thing that’s ALWAYS guaranteed to grab my attention is what I call the ALIVENESS/NATURALNESS factor. As Coelho writes in “The Alchemist,” “Life attracts life!” That is what grabbed me about Charice. She may not be perfect in one’s eyes, but she sure is freshly alive, authentic! She is a natural, paying heed to her NATURE, her heart! More than her music, that’ll get me every time.

    Wishing you all the best,

    KV

You are right. I am very hard to please. To love a singers voice it is never immeditate for me. I need to hear them for years and years and must be able to listen to their album after many years and feel the same emotions. There are very few singers in my memory that can still move me after many years when I listen to their old albums. Barbara Streisand “memories evergreen period”, Freddie Mercury (You can love him or hate him but his voice was extraordinary), Etta, Aretha Franklyn, Andrea Bocelli, Pavarotti, Whitney Houston and Diana Ross and Frank Sinatra for the stage and charm presence togeher with voice, Robbie Williams pity he wasted himself in general pop (He’s Royal Albert Hall live was fantastic), Charice for example in Italy is only known for duet with Bocelli. I’ve listend to many of her videos on you tube for curiosity but she doesn’t move me at the moment. Maybe she’s too young to hook me at the moment.

If we are doing what we are saying, its our natural instinct to look after our princess/queen’s nest not only to produce honey but also to protect and defend her dynasty out of harms way…..it can be preventable or not as it may seems.

I believe that our princess/queen has that integrity to keep her colony contained as she instills her love in each of us bees.

If we wanna bees belong to her colony, we must support our princess/queen regardless of any obstacles or no matter what it takes to attain and sustain her greatness. Just like bees, hornets or wasps do, they work together…. with the same interest and the same goals with her. I am one of the wanna bees, aren’t we all?

    Bravo, Bravo, LoloLando!

I have not expressed everything I feel about Charice on this website, sometimes afraid they will be construed as disloyal to her or concerned it will ignite unreasonable passions of other fans. How many times have you seen comments complaining about almost every trivial thing… about her frequent flights, where she should stay, her ABS-CBN loyalty, the way other artists interact with her, her English, her Tagalog, her clothes, her hair, her weight, the way she looks, etc, etc. I have seen ugly exchanges between fans, tensions between fans and moderators.

I am now inclined to slow down my “investment” into the beehive that you aptly described, because I am beginning to see some of the ugly sides of making this investment from some fans. I am afraid of further disappointments.

However, I will continue to invest into Charice, because I am confident she will not disappoint me. I will listen and watch her performances, watch her in concerts whenever I can, enjoy her albums, hope and wish the best for her.

Your post captures the essence of what’s happening and I hope every fan will endeavor to focus on producing the honey for everyone to enjoy.

    Thank you, LoloLando.

  10. LoloLando says:

Fansites are like hornets’ nests. Bees swarm to produce honey out of flowers’ nectars and resist being disrupted while transforming those nectars into honey. Such is the case here. There are some passersby who are attracted at this enlarging hives of a fansite that they could not resist leaving or posting unsolicited and, at times, ascerbic comments. The result is hot air being produced instead of honey.

If I have to dissect comments from this site, it seems that we are transforming our thoughts from merely idolizing the product (CHARICE)into protecting her and her talent for fear, it will not last long. And this is a reality in show business and even in sports. The likes of Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, The Beatles, Diego Maradona(soccer player from Argentina), they can’t sustain their popularity; indulged into various forms of pastimes; and even declaring themselve as more popular than J…s, until they met their fate. Most of the fans, I supposed, dread the day, CHARICE might follow the footsteps of those fallen personalities that is why they, we, are posting these reminders for managers of CHARICE to manage her well.

Comparing Charice with other known personalities in music business sometimes creates frictions. Truly, a fan, who invested some resources in support of an artist, will react vehemently when fans of other artists start this downgrading process, so avoid it.

My take on CHARICE is that, even without those original compositions for her, I could feel that she belongs to any music genre. On top of that, she could improve on the style of the original singer. And for the icing, she has a very strong memory, even discarding those idiot boards while singing.

To me, an ideal singer walks on an imaginary wide band. Meaning,he/she could sing low, medium and high, with the same intensity. An ordinary singer walks on tight rope, so tight that she could not improvise, going from one octave to another. This was how CHARICE was schooled: Jessa Zaragoza for baritone, her voice for medium, and her idols, Sarah and Regine for high notes. And she indulged in songs of international divas. How could one not fail to notice such powerful voice and not be intoxicated by it. You are not musically inclined if you fail to……..

And so it came to pass that the hive keeps on expanding in size as converts after converts were added to the swarm.

It probably just slipped out of my hand so I apologize and even if I dont’ change my opinion on certain things I didn’t want to enter on the political side of things but I felt instigated. My only interest is music and I have a music web site in Italy which is very popular and has 6000 entries in a month where everybody writes about their favourite singers italian and foreigners. It isn’t a fansite naturally so everyone just enters to read, leave news or opinons. It’s very different from a fansite and I should’ve understood that before writing here. Cheers and have a good sunday and I applogize if somone felt personally insulted.

So I’m the one with a patronizing attitude? Check yourself because you’re not much better. The web is free to everyone and being american maybe you should just check what you guys have done around the world talking about patronizing attitude.

I thought in a fan club of an artist one can speak about music generally but obviously you guys aren’t mature enough or openminded to accept other opinions than idolization for Charice. I repeat that Charice may have a good voice but she is too young and lacks her own personality on stage and it’s pretty normal at her age so before falling at her feet like you guys do I’d like to hear her own songs and her own style. And this is my opinion whether you like it or not.

    RED ALERT!!!!!!

O.k..enough already…This is the reason why we delete negative comments, it starts to create a ripple effect of negativity throughout the whole board with disrespectful attitudes, bashing, hating, and demeaning of other countries. This is a perfect example of how it leads against our policy. It is not so much about not allowing to give an opinion, but the effect of a negative comment that ends in disrespectful attitude towards each other.

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

I understand that we all want to express our opinions and on behalf of Charicemania staff we respect that in everyone. Everyone is entitled to an honest opinion.

BUT…under no circumstances are people allowed to use any derogatory remarks: such as profanity, threatening words, and any type of discriminatory words regarding sex, race, religion, or anything that is offensive to others or other countries.

FAILURE to abide by these simple rules; we will give a fair warning that they may or will be banned from ever entering this site.

Please, help us to keep this site fun and clean for everyone to enjoy. Let us respect others and handle things in a mature manner. We certainly don’t want to scare future fans of Charice by making them feel uncomfortable or think that we are all uncivilized human beings in here.

Thank you all for your help to keep this a fun and clean place to share our love and support for Charice.

After reading the posts of OzGirl, the first thing that came to my mind are the American Idol contestants who were not invited to go to Hollywood. Most people would reasonably conclude they could they could not sing. But in their own world of reality, they are convinced that they are the next idol. After the judges made their decision, they will go back to their own world of reality, on a land somewhere over the rainbow, and will continue to hang on the possibility that the judges will bring them back to compete. And if that doesn’t happen, they may try again next year. That’s their version of reality. So I will concede that point to OzGirl.

Meantime, back here on earth, on the land of the American Idol experience, the program will go one without them. We won’t see them compete and most fans are happy for that. That’s the reality for most of us.

My comment was not about taking away the dreams of Charice. Many fans, including me, support her all the way in pursuit of those dreams, whether that entails shuttling frequently between US and PI or moving here to the US or doing a duet with difficult divas or however she chooses to pursue her career.

My comment was meant to put perspective on the rumored duet with Whitney, my opinion on the pros and the cons of that happening.

The post of FLTom succinctly explains the gist of my comment. Thank you for stating it a different and more effective way.

Charice has a sweeter tone to her middle range than Whitney had in her prime, and she’s equal, if not superior, to primetime Whitney on the big, soaring notes also. Whitney has now passed her prime, prematurely, due to all the hard living she’s done.

I really don’t see Whitney risking unfavorable comparisons by sharing a stage with Charice. I guess it’s possible her manager and handlers could convince her the exposure would be good, and the duet might be fun to watch, but I don’t see much of an upside for Whitney. Charice has a better voice than Whitney, plain and simple. And Whitney is not known as the kind of generous and gracious performer who’d be OK with that.
