Fresh from her US performance for Barack Obama, international Filipino singer Charice Pempengco will hit Dubai next month as part of the Filipino Music Festival at Zabeel Park.
Charice will also be sharing the stage with R&B princess Kyla and two of the Philippines’ biggest rock bands: Rivermaya and Parokya ni Edgar. Filipino talents from the UAE will also be featured in the concert.
The petite performer rose to fame through YouTube, where US comedienne Ellen Degeneres discovered her and invited her to perform in her show last year.
She was such a hit she was also invited to guest in the Oprah show later. Show host Oprah Winfrey was all praises for the Filipina.
“You are a force to be reckoned with. That voice comes from something bigger than yourself. You’re pulling it up out of some place deeper than your little body,” Oprah told Charice during the show.
A few weeks after appearing on Oprah, Charice performed two songs at a live concert for legendary producer David Foster at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.
The star-studded event, entitled “David Foster and Friends,” also featured performances by Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Katherine McPhee, and Josh Groban, who told the assembled press that Charice has “one of the most beautiful voices I’ve heard in a long time.”

This is a prime case of SNAFU or FUBAR in military lingo. The organizers owe the ticket buyers an explanation of the canceled event. I also wanted to know what the frack happened. My sympathy to fellow Chasters in Dubai who suffered great inconvenience by this brouhaha.

The event was actually a shared stage with other Filipino performers other than Charice. But mind you, most of the people that I bumped with were there not for anybody else but just for Charice. It was really frustrating that the announcement came only at that moment, the concert proper. My officemates left office under time just to be at the venue as early as they could. I thought I was early but many were earlier.
To my excitement, when I reached the venue, I was kind of running as I got off the cab to the gate because I saw lots of people queuing. I bought my ticket online and I was told that the seat number will only be given at the gate. It’s funny that I thought the queue was for ticket validation. But it’s good that I asked the guy who was queuing ahead of me, “Is this queue for Charice’s concert? He said, “ahhh.. it’s for refund?“ I said what refund?” “ For the concert.” Oh my! In short, the concert was cancelled. No cash refund was done though. They just got our names and phone numbers. I wish our money will be refunded. I’ll just keep my fingers crossed. Our tickets are VVIP, front seat.
Different rumors hovered around. Nobody knows the true reason why. One said, the organizers ran away and took the money. Talent fees were not as agreed upon. Others said, only Charice came over. – I don’t know. And this was what I overheard from group of ladies behind me, “ this is not good for Charice’s name” – Well, I don’t know.
This is interesting … the stage was up and done but right there, they were disassembling or dismantling it. At that time when the concert was supposed to start? Whew!
I was upset because I really thought I had the chance to see Charice perform live. I got my cams all prepared only to find out that what I prepared for was all for nothing.

There will be no videos from Dubai. We, the UAE-based fans of Charice, were all disappointed that the concert was cancelled without prior notice. Ticket buyers who came to the venue were given various reasons – that the two bands and/or Kyla did not arrive; no permit was given for the concert, etc. It is definitely the organizers fault and not because of Charice. In fact, we confirmed from our friend working in Le Meridien Hotel that Charice arrived and checked-in yesterday in their hotel. I bought four VIP tickets for a total of US$163.26 and will have to find out how to get a refund.
For sure, we will be hearing from other Chasters who went to the cancelled event. They will vent their frustrations but our love and support for Charice will survive this fiasco!

This concert was very much anticipated by many Chasters only to be frustrated at the very last minute. The announcement of the cancellation of this concert should have been announced as early as possible to avoid all unnecessary discomfort suffered by those who went to watch and all those who have patiently waited in front of their PC in anticipation for video uploads of this event. This kind of irresponsible organizers don’t fit to have an international artist like Charice in their show. Charice is first class and this organizers act otherwise. NO to this organizers!

I was excited as I reached the concert venue tonight, only to find out that the concert was cancelled.
The concert was cancelled for no clear reasons as of yet. I hope the organizers clarify this as lots of rumors are coming out. Everybody who came to the concert venue was upset.
Is there anyone here who knows the reason? According to the grapevine though, Charice is here in Dubai since last night?

I just a bought a ticket. Can’t wait to see and hear Charice sing live.
I hope she will sing IWALY, I have nothing, I will survive a and most of all.. “And I am telling you I’m not going”. And I hope it’s the same version she sang in David Foster and Friends concert or her version from Starking or Ellen. Also, Born to love you forever and Because you loved me.
