Charice Pempengco is included in Asian Journal’s list of top 9 stories that Filipinos should look into in 2009. I quote the authors:
“2009 promises to be another banner year for Charice Pempengco, who rose to fame through youtube, where US comedienne Ellen Degeneres discovered her and invited her to perform in her show last year. She was such a hit, she was also invited to guest in Oprah Winfrey’s talk show a couple of times. Charice later performed at live concerts with Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, Katherine McPhee, Josh Groban and Celine Dion. Now back in the Philippines after her much-talked about performance at a number of events before the inauguration of President Barack Obama, Charice will soon be returning to the US to record her first international album.
For Valentine’s Day, Charice said she hopes that she and American Idol Season 7’s first runner-up David Archuleta can do a duet if the latter’s show in the country pushes through next month. On Feb 19, she will be going to Dubai to join Wowowee’s concert there with R&B princess Kyla and two of the Philippines’ biggest rock bands: Rivermaya and Parokya ni Edgar.
Later in February, Charice will go to Los Angeles to meet up with David Foster who reportedly has an original song ready for her. If a
ll goes well, they will start recording an album under Warner Bros. Charice said she has to stay in the US for three months to record the songs.
There were also talks that Charice was set to host a show produced by Winfrey. The young singer, however, said she is not yet aware of such a project.
On May 9, Charice will again be featured in David Foster & Friends Live In Concert at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. The following day, May 10, she will celebrate her 17th birthday. “Hopefully, my US album will be finished by then so that I will be able to promote it at the concert,” said Charice. “No matter what will happen, I will always go back to the Philippines,” she added.”

I remember an old movie where there was something about ‘building it, and they will come’….and charicemania.com to me became that site where most Pinoys are coming & converging from all walks of life and from every nook & cranny of this planet. Unbelievable !!!
Thanks to Charice and the internet.
Optimists & pessimists alike, all blending together where heart, soul and mind mingle to rally a cause behind this young person, Charice, whose only instrument in this sometimes unkind world, is raw talent and a heart of a lioness to pursue a dream.
I never thought I would see the day and witness these wonderful minds (and some not so wonderful, may I add…not because of their negativity but more so of their twisted plot and some unforeseen agenda) in discourse like music in the inner recesses of my cerebrum.
Thank you charicemania.com and the people behind this site but, more so… to the people who share their views and opinions on this forum. You always make my day.
Keep the faith and don’t forget to buy Charice’s upcoming album !

Lolo,
I think Celine is winding down her career so she will not be a competition in the near future. She is secured on her position as one of the all time greats, I think this is the reason why she was comfortable in giving Charice the stage when she invited her to that MSG concert.
The potential for Charice is so high right now. And the timing is perfect. I pray she makes the right steps.
Whatever happens, it is an interesting time for music lovers.

Hello Cizcan43,
Bulls eye, you’re right on target, man or woman!!! So her only competition for that big ‘pizza pie’ is Celine Dion. And at her age, she is fast catching up in ‘vocal’ terms. Three is a company if Whitney resurrects.
Her lining-up for duet with known singers of different music genre is a clever move to self-rate where she is now at her age. With wise exposure (including scheduling) in the utilization of her talent, her singing will improve, not regress. To maintain her voice, she must avoid smoking and alcoholic drinks. She must have complete rest and sleep. Her diet must be regulated. So a health team must be formed, who have no business relations with the entertainment industry. Those who are not afraid to say NO!!
I will end up by expounding the virtue of vinegar (apple cider vinegar)in relation to her favorite mix of vinegar and soy sauce for her sardines.(ALA Ernie Baron)
Unknowingly, her being fun with vinegar may have contributed to her singing prowess. Try it and you will notice that your esophagus will be cleansed from phlegms and other sticky subtances. Those will enter the stomach through the LOWER ESOPHAGEAL SPHINCTER (LES). This is a circular band of muscles around the bottom part of the esophagus serving as entrance for food and liquid entering the stomach. When LES is opened, which is normally closed, hydrochloric acid from the stomach will reflux or enters back to the esophagus going upward, causing a burning sensation in the chest or throat. Because vinegar has a lesser degree of acidity than hydrochoric acid(formed inside the stomach), once they mixed inside the stomach, the level of acidity causing the reflux will subside or losts its acidity strength.
It would be a nightmare for CHARICE if a reflux occurred while singing her standard high-pitched songs.
Good Night……

FOLKS:
I’ve seen everything-all the known superdivas performances on U-TUBE.Some have at least one vocal weakness(either weak low or high register). To me Charice is almost a model singer-superb low register, unbelievable high notes coupled with raw power but so pleasing to the ears. She is the only singer right now that can take an old song, reproduce it, turn it into a much better song than the original.I think this girl will turn into the greatest singer of her generation.THIS IS MY PREDICTION and I can smell it coming!!So,goingMerryThen, eat your heart out!!A God given talent will always SHINE!!!

What a shame I missed the actual goingmerrythen post, since I would’ve liked to analyze it, but I see from the responses to it that goingmerrythen seems to believe Charice does not have the “IT” factor. From this contention alone, one can see goingmerrythen isn’t a very formidable student of human nature or star quality. If Charice has anything, she has the elusive “IT” factor, and she has it in overflowing abundance.
“IT”, in copious amounts, radiates like moonbeams from each strand of her hair, slides like a painter’s brush from her expressive, tender fingertips, barks like a sergeant major from her glowering visage when she sings to the world “[She] Will Survive”, charms like a babe in arms when she tells of her fear of pizza pie, runs like a gazelle when she creates brilliant dance steps on cue, and soars to the sun like a goddess on Mt Olympus when she hits the high note (much more purely and beautifully than Whitney Houston, by the way) in “I Will Always Love You.”
Josh Groban has testified to the star quality he immediately recognized in her. Oprah, Ellen, David Foster, and many others have said the same. I noticed it within moments of first hearing her. In fact, I can pinpoint when it happened. At the very beginning of the first song I ever heard her sing on the David Foster Special, she made a slight movement of her head on the line “what I am” in “I Have Nothing.” It was, to me, an endearing gesture, and the mark of a consummate professional who knows how to relate to an audience.
Charice is the real deal.
That’s not to say she is the perfect singer. There are areas in her vocal range that need work. Foster can help her with this, I’m sure.
But the instrument itself, the voice, is exquisite. And Charice, on top of her voice, has “IT” — larger than life charisma in a beautiful, diminutive package.
