The country’s youngest diva Charice continued to win plaudits for her talent during a guest performance in America’s top-rating morning show “Good Morning America.”
Charice appeared in the show to promote David Foster’s new CD-DVD “Hitman: David Foster & Friends.” Charice is one of several performers included in the album namely music icons Kenny G., Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Brian McKnight, Katharine McPhee, Andrea Bocelli and Dion.
Foster, who has won at least 15 Grammy Awards as a composer and record producer, is currently handling Charice’s career in the US.
Charice performed the Whitney Houston chart-toppers “I Have Nothing” and “I Will Always Love You” for the show and received enthusiastic applause from the American audience.
During an interview with GMA host Chris Cuomo, Foster hailed Charice for her astounding vocal prowess and said that he couldn’t wait to produce the young Filipina’s next album. He said that Charice had been singing a lot of his songs and was familiar with his music even before they met.
“She just kinda reminds me of the first time I saw Celine singing in a tent when she was 18 and I told Celine that she would sing with Barbra Streisand. And I told Charice that she would sing with Celine and it’s all come true. She’s amazing,” Foster said.
Charice also joked that Foster was like a dad to her. “I think it’s amazing, working with him. I think he’s funny and very comfortable working with, he’s like my dad. ‘Hey dad,’” Charice said.
Charice met Foster last year in Los Angeles before she taped her guest appearance on “The Ellen Degeneres Show”. They later flew together to Las Vegas on a private jet to watch the farewell show of Celine Dion at the Caesar’s Palace Colosseum.
According to Charice, it was Foster who recommended her to Oprah’s show and it was Oprah who in turn recommended her to Foster to handle her international recording career.

If the world only gives our filipino young people here to blessed them growing with their moms, it is best opportunity for the world.
Asians moms especially filipino moms are very caring, workaholic, loving and have a single-minded for their families especially for the filipino kids.
FIlipino moms need to work abroad just to supply the needs of their families here. Most of them are domestic helpers, caregivers etc.. They need to work ther because we dont have enough jobs here in the Philippines. Some of them are far apart between mom annd the kid for almost 10 yrs. I could imagine if MOMMY RAQCUEL (mom of charice) decided to work abroad, the world now cannot generate like charice personality have. Mommy Racquel for charice always explaine the patience she needs to have especially when charice lost on a local singing contest here in Manila. Mommy Racq also serve as charice Bestfriend, voice coach and emotional provider for charice.
THere are so many multi-talented filipino kids that should really need to nurture with the help of course of their moms. Unfortunately, god provides them that kind of destiny. If only the world gives our filipino kids here growing with them their moms, we could generate here future albert einstein, future Barack Obama, future dancers and singers. Filipino kids without their moms will not helpful for them because it cant help for our young talents. I think God really decided to generate an endless blue collar job for our people.

bx605 and charicemerised16 – I think you hit it right on the head. Always wondered why the economy is so bad and things are falling apart this past year. Of course, it’s a full blown epedemic of ODC. It has obviously swept the nation; people can’t work, people can’t concentrate, people with bags under their eyes, people singing to themselves, people with watery eyes, people shaking their heads, people fighting to use the computer, people whose company block youtube all jitery and can’t wait to get home, people telling their spouses they’ll be coming to bed soon (more like 3 hours later).

Yeah I agree that there are many very good singers in the Philippines, but there also many very good singers around the world. Charice is different she has the star quality as Mr. Foster said, in ABUNDANCE..She is a hard act to follow. Not just an amazing singer but with a very good character and personality. When she sings it’s intense and with great passion, that the listener or the audience can’t help but be amazed.

Hi OzGirl.
Everytime I see her sing “I Will Survive” (GMA rendition) I think this is a “can’t miss” hit. My hair, what’s left of it, is standing straight up. She has to have something out by Christmas, even if it’s a single.
Charice is the number 1 total entertainment package in my eyes. I don’t even have time to think who is number 2. On B&K she has one of the best duets with her friend Rhap “And I Am Telling You”.
I don’t know what they feed the kids in the Philippines, but i’ve never seen so many outstanding singers. Can’t help but feel Charice has inspired many of them; and at age 16, my goodness.
Just hope they find their own niche because to follow in Charice’ footsteps is almost impossible. I’ve waited 58 years for this phenom to arrive, so I can’t see anyone taking her place anytime soon (maybe when i’m 116).

Regarding Charice releasing an album with cover songs, I feel the same way as you do. In fact, that’s what happened to Whitney Houston when she did the cover of “I Will Always Love You”.
The song “I Will Always Love You” was written by Dolly Parton in 1973 and was originally released by Dolly as a country ballad in 1974. But it was Whitney Houston’s version of the song, as produced by David Foster for The Bodyguard, which made it the biggest selling single of all time, selling over 15 million copies worldwide, earning a 4x Multi-Platinum award!!!
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all help make that happen for Charice! As we have witnessed over and over again, whatever song Charice sings, she makes it her own!

I’m telling you with all the songs Charice knows she could make 5 cover albums and they would sell. With the different arrangements and Charice twists, plus the fact she sounds better than the original singers, I would have no problem purchasing her cd’s. I don’t have to have new songs yet.
Can you imagine all the new fans listening to her for the first time to familiar tunes and saying “Who’s that? Where’d she come from? She’s amazing!!” Then hit us with new stuff.
Even Rod Stewart’s last couple of albums have been covers. So for me covers are good for now and the following she will amass will wait and buy her new songs as well.
Look at all these comments commending her for “I Will Survive”. Go Charice. You can do whatever you want. You won’t have to wish for anyone else to sing with you, let them come to you. Great appearance on GMA. Hope I can attend the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
