“But the real “Rising Star” of the night was Charice Pempengco, the 16-year-old Filipino singing sensation. The tiny gal with the huge voice wowed the audience with her astonishing rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” leading to wild cheers and a standing ovation.

Who needs Tom Cruise, anyway, when the next generation of superstar is in the house?”

    HAH!!!

    dhorskie, thanks for this!

Celebrating Big Brothers Big Sisters at The Big Bash!
    Jenny Peters

Expectations ran high on Thursday night, Oct. 30, that superstar Tom Cruise would turn up at The Big Bash!, the annual Rising Stars Gala put on by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles and the Inland Empire, despite the fact that he’s living in New York at the moment while his wife Katie Holmes stars in a Broadway show. But we all know that he has his own plane, and can fly off at a moment’s notice, which is why he was expected, since Paula Wagner, his long-time friend and producing partner, was being honored with the organization’s Sherry Lansing Award.

But Tom didn’t make the trip to honor Paula’s mentoring skills; instead, his “Jerry Maguire” co-star and Oscar-winning buddy Cuba Gooding, Jr., did the honors. But first, earlier in the evening, that raucous actor jumped on stage with Joanne Worley and Fred Willard to help them run the live auction when bidding began to sputter.

“Hey, you white people with money, quiet down!” he joked, then led the multiracial crowd that filled the Beverly Hilton Hotel in repeating his signature saying, “Show me the money!”

Plenty of money was eventually raised for the BBBS organization, which also honored publicist Michael S. Sitrick with the Walt Disney Man of the Year Award and 12-year-old actress Abigail Breslin with the Young Heroes Award as stars Alan Arkin, Doris Roberts, Pam Dawber, Sarah Purcell, Jodie Sweetin, Jennifer Freeman and Larry King looked on.

But the real “Rising Star” of the night was Charice Pempengco, the 16-year-old Filipino singing sensation. The tiny gal with the huge voice wowed the audience with her astonishing rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” leading to wild cheers and a standing ovation.

Who needs Tom Cruise, anyway, when the next generation of superstar is in the house?

It would be nice if DF would reconsider the
option of recording her first album asap.
Majority of Charice fans are adults. It’s her
advantage too while she’s young, it will attrack
    younger audience.

    I already pre-order both DF/hitman cd/dvd,
    can’t even wait for that.

    Just my opinion.

Thanks Oprah and DF and everybody else out there,
    you know who you are….

    Great Voice, Charice

To All! I always visit this site and Charicediva. I do not post comments or chat all the time. But i make sure i copy all the links and post them to the Charice’s Thread I Started last June in Female Netwrok just to make people be updated of Charice’s performances and let them know what is the Latest Happening on Charice.I often see Miyam210 and Clotheswhore there. They posted some links and comments too.
The Network is not just a Charice forum unlike this site. That is why it is not always busy comparing to Charicediva and Charicemania. My goal is to make all Filipinos or Foreigners( yes Foreigners because i have so many friends abroad)to love Charice. I always update the thread with links and News, I send personal messages or emails to my friends and people i know all about Charice once i got the latest infos.
We need to Promote Charice everywhere so her success will really Push Through!

For me, it’s a good news if she’s no longer with ABS-CBN. She shouldn’t tie herself (like exclusive)in any network in the Philippines. That’s at least when she goes back there, she can guest in any of them.

Like Lea Salonga, she appears and guests in any TV network in the Philippines because she’s not tied to ABS-CBN, GMA or whatever. She can promote her shows in whichever network.

In the Philippines, if you are kapuso fanatic, you only know most of Kapuso artists. If you are Kapamilya, you only know most of Kapamilya artists. I bet, those who are kapuso fanatics know only a little about Charice or.. “could be” know nothing at all about her”.

Guys, let us just look forward to all the positive things that has come Cha’s way and be thankful to the Lord above for it. ABS-CBN is unpleasant history for everybody. Kudos to Cha for maintaining her professional composure despite all the boo-boos she had experienced working with these people. Oprah and David Foster showed not only to us but to ABS-CBN how a shining star of Cha’s brilliance should be nurtured and handled not only at the local level(US) but at the international level (Canada, etc) as well. And if ABS-CBN have an iota of humility in them, they should radically mend their ways of handling homegrown talents. I believe Filipino artists can hold their own anywhere in the world given the opportunity and a capable organization or individuals to support them. At the moment, ABS-CBN’s performance in showcasing Filipino talents is not something to be admired about; not even in Asia and to the rest of the world for that matter.

Can someone explain the deafening silence of ABS-CBN News on Charice? Would you believe this, they would rather feature something insignificant like “the dancing policeman” and you could even get the latest news about Charice on Oprah and in France but not on her mother studio!…There’s really something wrong in the way and the manner they treated and handled Charice and i think we deserve to get some explanations from them!
